BJ Penn To Fight The Winner Of GSP vs. Jon Fitch By Jason Perkins | July 02, 2008 UFC 87 will go a long way towards determining BJ Penn's future opponents. Expect the popular Hawaiian native to keep a close eye on two fights at the Minnesota event in particular. Penn recently told Fighters Club TV that he is set to move up to 170 to challenge the winner of the UFC 87 main event between Georges St. Pierre and Jon Fitch. The fight, contingent on the health of the victor, will likely take place at the UFC's annual New Year's Eve card this December 27th in Las Vegas. The other fight that Penn will be keeping close tabs on at UFC 87 is Kenny Florian vs. Roger Huerta. Penn stated that he plans to retain his lightweight title, despite challenging for the welterweight title, and will likely face the winner of Florian-Huerta. He also left open the option of moving up to middleweight after cleaning out the light and welterweight divisions over the foreseeable future. Check out Penn's comments www.fightline.com/index.cfm?page=video.videoById&videoId=53 in our video's section. We'll have more on this story as it develops. [/i] If anyone can do it, it's ing BJ.

BJ vs. GSP will be epic, even though I personally dislike BJ Penn. Fitch vs. Penn I'm not exactly super-excited for.
BJ's got a bit of an ego to him, as always, to say that he'll "clean out" the light and welterweight divisions. GSP brings the pain, and BJ has been KTFO before. Or at least TKOTFO.

I would like to see GSP/BJ, as I think GSP can take him.

GSP vs. BJ would be interesting, but I think GSP has improved a lot since their last fight, i think GSP would take it quite comfortably & send BJ scurrying back down in weight.

BJ's only TKO defeat came when he gassed due to broken ribs against Matt Hughes at UFC 63. I don't know where your information came from, but it was obviously wrong.

You're said that BJ has been TKO'd before which is exactly PdW2kX 's point. The end of the fight was Matt Hughes battering BJ & the ref stopped the fight. Yeah he might have gased, yeah he might have had broken ribs but the fight was stopped & ruled a TKO because BJ couldn't defend himself & was getting battered. The sad part is that before that BJ was absolutely dominanting the fight.

Take Irvin vs. Alexander for example. 0:08.

The only way GSP wins is if he dry-humps Penn to a boring decision victory again.

Alright, alright, maybe my fandom of GSP, my dislike for Penn, and some good 'ol fashioned late-night insomnia posting produced a questionable post. I apologize if what I said/wrote came off as stupid or fanboyish.
I meant to say something along the lines of "He's been punched into oblivion before, or at least punched into a referee stoppage. Even if only once, the precedent has been set." While TKOTFO can mean a sudden devastating TKO to some, to me it's more of a general term of complete domination.
Once Hughes got on top and pinned BJ's arm, he began unloading mercilessly with absolutely no remorse and BJ sat there taking it and taking it. Because it was such a dominant statement and such a "tit for tat" avengement of BJ's submission of Hughes, I called it a TKOTFO. It just gave me that adrenaline rush that you feel when you get a good KO/TKO.
So, to the Penn lovers: o.k., baring in mind that Penn's only been TKO'd once, I think GSP has it within himself to do it again. If this thing goes to the ground and becomes all about takedowns and defenses and submissions, I'll admit that GSP may indeed find himself outclassed and outmatched, though I have no doubt he'll put up a hell of a fight.
Or at least, that's my take on things.

BJ was kicking Matt Hughes' ass before his ribs got separated as he mounted Hughes' back.
And I still stand by the Penn/St. Pierre fight's scoring being complete B.S.

I really hope GSP wins this one just because Penn is a cocky little craphead.
But TBH, I would rather watch GSP vs. Anderson Silva. Its a dream fight of mine.

One could easily argue that BJ Penn is the most well-rounded fighter in the world.
