mmascoops and mmaweekly:
The rumor began earlier last week and now it’s official, Rich Franklin is moving back up to the weight class that he started in when he made his UFC debut. His return to the Light Heavyweight division will take place at UFC 88 against a very tough Matt Hamill. MMARated first broke the story earlier today, which we confirmed through sources close to both camps.
Something interesting to note is that Anderson Silva is also moving up to 205-lbs for his fight against James Irvin. Of course how long his stay will be would depend on how good he looks against Irvin on July 19th.
Franklin had originally moved down to the Middleweight division because he felt that by cutting weight and getting it back before fight time would give him a power advantage, which it did. Unfortunately Anderson Silva was a much stronger competitor with better technique which put Franklin in a quandary. Even if he could string together a few wins at Middleweight, could he really compete with Silva? Probably not, and that’s why the move up.
Matt Hamill will pose as a very tough return to Light Heavyweight as his wrestling and strength is arguably the best in the weight class and will crowded division. --------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rumored UFC 88: Breakthrough Card
Middleweight Title: Anderson Silva vs. Yushin Okami Chuck Liddell vs. Rashad Evans Rich Franklin vs. Matt Hamill Dan Henderson vs. Rousimar Palhares Karo Parisyan vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida James Lee vs. Tim Boetsch Ryo Chonan vs. Roan Carneiro

I feel really bad for Rich. He has such amazing ability. It is just that Anderson Silva has Rich's number. The point of fighting is to win a title and be the best in the world. And sadly for "Ace" it cannot happen as long as Anderson Silva is in his weight class.

I really really like both Matt and Rich. This should be a heck of a fight, with Rich hopefully winning and working his way up the 205 ladder. Now i wonder if we would ever see Anderson Silva vs. Rich Franklin at the 205 level ha.

Ha thats really weird. Hamil used to come down to JG academy and do some sparing and such with Rich and Jorge. Its just weird that theyre going to fight now. I see Rich winning though. His main priority is keeping this fight stand up cause my brother has wrestled with Hamil and hes got a helluva ground game

I see Hamil winning. But I see this fight being a 3rounder, definetly.

I've sat in on a few training sessions of Hamill in his gym in Utica and my god, he's strong. Freakishly strong. I know most MMA fighters are strong...but he's just country strong.
I really think this could be a huge mistake for Franklin, and a very short return to 205.

As far as i know Hamill hasen't ever fought a guy with the Knockout Power Rich has in his punches, so i guess we'll get to see how tuff Matt Hamill's chin is in this fight.

I'm not a big fan of Hamill's but he's a great wrestler & I thought he showed good hands against Bisping. Loving that Rich is jumping up in weight just as his Kryptonite A Silva is doing the same. Must be like a nightmare he can't get away from.
I'd have preferred Rich to stay at 185 myself, he's got some possible big fights with Almeida, Henderson & Bisping. BUT I suppose he must know he'll never get a title msatch against Anderson again so what choice he have.
