This is a general topic that I just believes should have its own topic instead of just being put into the SvR09 thread.
Anyone else here believe it is imperative that THQ or Yuke's or whoever mainly designs the engine for SvR video games need to SEVERELY overhaul the system.
The engine is possibly one of the worst engines in any wrestling game ever and yet the same basic engine has been used for about 4-5 games at this point.
The AI does not make sense and it makes it very difficult for a match to be "good" and even on Legend mode, for the most part, it is not hard to win a match in about 3 minutes.
One problem is that the timing is off. You are not able to reverse or interrupt moves at times where it is very possible to do so in real life. Though this is hard to explain, Im sure many of you know what I'm talking about. In the video game there are times where you want to break up a move or counter, but the game just simply doesnt allow it or the engine isnt complex enough to allow it.
Secondly, there is the issue of the strange way that often in the game, the two wrestlers end up facing the wrong direction. There are so many times where it seems randomly you or your opponent or whaling, punching and kicking away in circles or facing the opposite direction of their opponent for no reason. A cycle begins where you keep trying to circle around to face each other, but the controls are so silly that you can sometimes end up seeing two wrestlers in circles trying to hit each other for 30 freakin seconds. It looks silly, unrealistic and is a major flaw that for some reason is not being prepared.
Lastly, the AI is horrible. The psychology is off and the AI is so dumb that often the computer opponent doesnt even capitolize on an obvious situation. There have been times where I have been down, my opponent had a finisher ready to be used, but he'll just wal kaway or out of the ring or just do something completely random and useless. It takes away from the suspense and completely makes it impossible to truly get "into" the match.
Sorry if this seems like a useless rant, but I have noticed that over the years this engine has no improved and honestly, you can add a million match-types and characters to a game, but if the "WRESTLING" in the game seems unnatural, unrealistic and plain old illogical, all the match types and arena choices in the world cant make the game great.
I would rather only have 3 arenas, half the match-types, but have a solid engine that is realistic, can make good matches, is truly CHALLENGING and makes me feel like I am sometimes in a real match.
Games like No Mercy and WM2000 had a perfect engine. The grapples were great, the physics were on and you werent always in circles, facing the wrong freakin way for no reason at all. Of course no engine is PERFECT, but this was as close as we got. The wrestling was slow, the moves were real looking and feeling, the momentum of a match was realistic and it made you actually really get "into" a match. These days with SvR I never really get "into" the match as much because I know that even if the computer gets me in a bind, it's stupid AI will make it do something stupid and never be able to actually win.
Sorry for being long-winded, but I feel like a petition should be made or something to make THQ/Yukes realize the importance of ditching this faulty engine.
