Alright, so after watching Victory Road last night, and thinking about this, I am going to breakdown the entire company here, from an on screen standpoint. I will most likely be doing one of WWE later this week if time allows.
Alright. My opinion on the current product of TNA, has varied millions of times in the past month or two. It's been up for me one minute, down the next. Let's take a look at some of the positive aspects:
1.Increasing Quality of Impacts-Lately, TNA has been figuring out a way to increase quality of their weekly product, and has been putting on a better show week in and week out. I have been impressed with what we have been seeing on TV the past few weeks. I feel feuds are being built well, matches have been getting more exciting, and seem to be getting more time and focus, and backstage segments, while still there may be a little too many, are starting to help build feuds and not sway off topic into some pointless manner that doesn't need to be talked about. Comic relief is there, but they are cutting back, which is helping keep a more serious aspect on the shows. Don't wanna take my word for it? Fine, take a look at some of the biggest bashers of TNA on this forum. Asia, ASIA of all people, enjoyed a TNA impact episode a few weeks ago.(sorry Asia, you were just always one to bash TNA )
2.World X Cup-This was put together perfectly by TNA. I honestly can sit here and tell you, I wasn't bored by this at all, and felt this was put together great. The talent brought in by TNA to showcase each team was fantastic. Each match was worth tuning in to watch, and their match at the PPV, was freaking incredible. Fast paced, action packed, exactly what you would expect and more. The Ultimate X was blah, could have been better, but Kaz's spot was crazy. Now, I understand the World X Cup is over now, and that this shouldn't be looked at as a positive for the long term of the company, but think about from this perspective. When is the last time you saw MCMG get 4 wins in 4 straight matches? I mean, come on, I am sure I'm not alone when I say I didn't expect Shelley to be the one getting the pin last night. And before that, the showcase of talent shown by Sabin, was amazing. It seemed like TNA really wanted to give them a chance. TNA did something really good, in allowing the World X Cup to showcase "their" talent as well as International talent. MCMG was given their chances to show TNA management why they should be contenders for the tag belts, and TNA must have had some trust in them to give them these wins, especially over the Number 1 contenders at the time, Beer Money.
3.A Real Focus on the Knockout's-Let's face it, the Knockout's division is basically the biggest and quite possibly best thing TNA has right now. It draws the ratings, the matches are solid, and talent doesn't go to waste. Take a look at the last few Knockout's matches. Saeed/Taylor, Love/Kim, Taylor/Kong, all have been anywhere from decent to good. Now, some people are pissed at the fact Taylor is champion. But really, Kong had to lose the belt sometime. I mean, there was only so far she could go with her first reign, and basically, I love Kong, but there wasn't a whole lot more she could have done. Taylor winning adds that shock factor, adds the never know what you could expect factor to the weekly show, it helps draw in more people to watch, and why not milk the so called "cash cow" and use your biggest ratings draw to your advantage. Sure the ratings aren't sky rocketing because of it, but it's drawing in fans, why not use it?
While TNA does have some positives, some negatives are also lurking around
1.X-Division Lacking--Alright, this is one of my main gripes with TNA, has been for a while now. The X-Division. Basically, some people like to say it's the thing that got TNA on the map, which I believe, and it's entertaining as hell. But, it's lacking, and disappearing. My main way to show this, compare. Compare 2005/2006, hell, 2007 to now.(I'm using recent years instead of going all the way back to the beginning of the company to show how it's gone down past few years) Where has it gone? The X-Division used to be the center of attention for a while, and now it's vanishing. The X-Division champion was finally on TV for the first time in about a month. Now, granted, he was injured, but at least maybe talk about him, maybe have somebody challenge him and build a feud off of Petey being hurt or something, and when he is ready, have him get into a match. Look at Petey/Kaz from Slammiversary. No build up, great match. Imagine if that had some build up, and maybe continue the feud on past Slammiversary? Now, yes, Kaz had to be there for the X Cup, but you could have maybe had Petey scout Kaz or something during his matches, kind of play off two storylines for Kaz or something. The X-Division needs a feud. With Lethal and Dutt in a feud right now, they basically aren't going to be given any X-Division title feuds. I know Petey can wrestle now, as he wrestled on Impact, so start a feud for No Surrender over the X-Division title, and get some more showcasing of the belt. It's hard to even remember that belt is there half the time anymore.
2.Ratings-TNA's major concern, plain and simple. Yes, I know TNA cannot control how many people tune in, but they need to get their name out there, and do it some other way than a truck during WM weekend with screens on it, so it can get booed at and look like a third rate Indy trying to get their name out there. They need to advertise! Get some commercials spots, air them on channels people watch. Sure it'll cost money, but if TNA is drawing a profit, they should be able to get some type of advertising, other than Spike TV. TNA hasn't gotten their name out there, plain and simple. I am a huge TNA fan, but I will admit this. TNA needs a way to draw viewers in, and keep them in.
I'm done ranting. I was bored, and just thought this up. Questions, comments, concerns?
