Top middleweight contender Yushin Okami has suffered another hand injury — this time in training — and will more than likely be unable to challenge 185-pound champion Anderson Silva anytime soon, according to MMARated.com.
“Thunder” initially broke his hand against Evan Tanner at UFC 82: “Pride of a Champion” — a fight the Japanese import won via crushing knockout. There’s currently no word on whether or not this is a fresh break or if he re-aggravated the existing damage.
The tentative plan was to pit Okami against Silva as soon as UFC 88: “Breakthrough” on September 6 if the “Spider” escaped his non-title light heavyweight fight tonight with James Irvin injury-free. Patrick Cote would then take on the winner of that match in late 2008.
Now it seems that the “Predator” may have leapfrogged Okami — the last man to deal Silva a loss (albeit disqualification — for a chance to next take on the feared Brazilian striker.
Good luck, Patrick.

so much for Okami/silva II

Literally a tough "break" for Okami. He's a great fighter and it's too bad he got put out of action. Hopefully he heals up soon.

I was actually looking forward to this fight. This is a shame. I hope Okami doesn't need to come up with yet another win to get a shot though.

So will Cote's title shot get bumped forwards or another LHW match up?

Anderson Silva vs. ANYONE is an uninteresting 185 bout, because everyone knows the outcome in advance.
Anderson Silva by complete domination.

I could care less who Anderson Silva fights unless its Wanderlei Silva... That would be an amazing fight. 2 dominant dudes with awesome KO power.

Patrick Cote is a deadman. Seriously, this isnt even going to be enjoyable to watch. He's going to die.

Cote is a decent fighter & deserves a shot, however Anderson is so far head of the rest of the 185 division that it is not funny. Cote hits hard, but so does Anderson & he is a damn sight more technical with his striking, I can't see this lasting long & Cote ending up sparked out on the mat.
Fights left at Middleweight -The Okami rematch. It is Silva's last "defeat" and Zuffa loves their champs avenging past defeats so still expect this to happen. -Bisping. Yeah a lot of fans dislike him, although he has looked good at 185 so far. If he gets past Leben expect a big high -profile title match in the uK at some stage in 2009.
The only other fight i can think of is if Vanderlai does as has been hinted & drops down in weight & that is a fight i would love to see.
Apart from these the big money fights are at LHW & by that I mean Chuck vs. Anderson in what could be Zuffa's biggest drawing pPV ever!

A. Silva vs. W. Silva would indeed be epic.
I have a feeling it'll happen eventually. As I've said before, Dana knows that there's far too many "money matches" out there with Anderson to keep him at 185. Anderson's domination of the 185 division is nigh-on frightening. I honestly have no idea how he'll lose that strap, which is why I think he'll never lose it at all.
Whether it's fighters moving down or up to challenge for Silva's 185 crown or Silva moving up to challenge for heavier gold, I have a feeling all those swank "dream matches" people talk about have at least a decent shot of happening within the next year if Anderson continues his reign of utter dominance.
