I've always wondered...does anyone know when/why/how they went from the Winged Eagle belt to the 'Attitude Era' belt? I was young then, so I can't exactly remember when they changed it, and why. I believe Austin was the first to have it right? But, storyline-wise...why'd they change the belt? Or was there no explanation?

Night after WM 14 in 1998...there wasnt a explantion I dont think ..he just had a new belt

The belt design change was meant to signal one era to the next. I remember the RAW after WrestleMania XIV when Austin was awarded the Big Eagle design. The Winged Eagle design was outdated by 1998.

There was no explanation. Vince was standing in the ring with the belt, ready to give Austin his new belt.

The belt design change was meant to signal one era to the next. I remember the RAW after WrestleMania XIV when Austin was awarded the Big Eagle design. The Winged Eagle design was outdated by 1998. Yeah, the belt had run its course by early 1998 and a new design couldn't have been introduced at a better time, as the Attitude era title (in my eyes) is synonymous with Steve Austin and his very first reign. |

I was there the night it happened. He came out in the beginning of the show and they handed him the new belt.

Its still weird to me though that if you watch the Night after KOTR 98 where Kane is being awarded the belt, The belt in the display case is the old Winged eagle but at the end of the night the belt given to Austin was the Attitude Era belt...Confused the hell outta me

Another time was when Steve Austin drove the zamboni to the ring and attacked Vince... the belt in the glass case was the Winged Eagle as well but it wasn't used after that. |

I wish they would release a blue version Attitude replica belt, aswell as a purple IC title.

They shud have kept the original wwf title, intercontinental and tag belt like what the NWA has done. The belts wud hold a slightly more historic value if you no what I mean.

I agree, changing the title facia so many times has slightly devalued the titles. In football in england the trophies have always been the same, unless the tournament name changes. Thats the only way they should change the belts. |

Im sure that the new IC title was just on Rocks sholder during an interview the same night as Austin got his. . .

Did they ever explain the smoking skull belt? No but Austin mentions why he got the belt made in Hell Yeah. Austin cites two reasons. One being he thought the previous belt was ugly, and the other being the edge of the center plate would often leave cuts on his chin. |
