Is there any truth to the rumor of the Powers of Pain (Warlord & Barbarian) being split-up due to the foresight of the WWF signing the Legion of Doom/Road Warriors

I've always wanted to know why they split these guys without any storyline reasoning. Perhaps your correct as the Pain was split up in Feb '90, and the Road Warriors came in during July '90, So perhaps the Vince heard that within 6 months he could get the LOD and thats why they were split. Either that or they thought, the Pain had become stale as a tag team.

I'm not sure if this can be proved or not but I think it is true. Looking back at the time they were very similar teams. Actually if I recall the Powers of Pain were really over so I still don't understand why they had to do that. Maybe they ran their course by then. But they brought in LOD so I guess it worked out.

I think the LOD probably had a lot to do with it, along with the WWF probably seeing future singles potential in a repackaged Warlord (due to his size and look... probably not due to his wrestling ability).
The WWF supposedly tried to sign the Road Warriors several times in the 1980s before finally getting them in 1990. At that time, Demolition was still super hot with the fans (remember the crowd pop for Demolition beating Andre & Haku at the 1990 Mania? Unbelievable.). So I'm sure McMahon probably thought three teams that painted their faces and dressed in all black were too many, and the Powers of Pain were the obvious "odd team out" given the potential of the LOD to get over and the reality of how popular Demolition was at the time.

I would say it is safe to assume the Road Warriors arrival had a lot to do with the breaking up of the Powers of Pain.
Also, it could have been done to set the stage for their singles runs, although they were a solid team during that time.

Sorry, but PoP wasn't very over at all. There was something about them not being able to cut their own promos as well as other factors. . . . but they never really got over at all.

I actually just watched the POP shoot interview on Youtube last night. It was said they Vince split them up because they wanted to do a Hogan-Warlord feud and a Warrior-Barbarian feud....I think it should be safe to say that they should have stayed as a tag team

Here is the card that featured the Powers Of Pain's last match as a team:
WWF @ Hershey, PA - Hersheypark Arena - March 25, 1990 Al Perez pinned Paul Diamond Koko B. Ware pinned Buddy Rose with a missile dropkick Earthquake pinned Ron Garvin The Bushwhackers defeated Nikolai Volkoff & Boris Zhukov when Butch pinned Zhukov Bad News Brown pinned Hillbilly Jim with the Ghetto Blaster Dusty Rhodes defeated Randy Savage via count-out WWF World Champion Hulk Hogan & the Big Bossman defeated the Powers fo Pain when Hogan pinned the Warlord (the Powers of Pain's last match as a team)
As for their split, my only guess is they wanted to establish them as singles wrestlers. Also, the WWF had too many tag teams at that time. Although the Road Warriors debuted in July (taped on June 25th) and the Nasty Boys (December).

Barry Darsow mentioned that Demo were demoted in terms of push when LOD appeared, he did mention how Demo had much bigger pops than LOD, then when crush replaced Ax (im pretty sure this was due to injury?) he knew it was the end.
I loved LOD back in the day, but during the mid 90's, i actually realised how much i loved Demolition. I must say that i strangely took a shine to Warlord after he spoke against Vince in the first of the steroid cases.
I thought his singles run with Davey Boy was awesome... seriously, the two big guys slugging it out... i loved it. The PoP shoot is also very cool to watch, if you get a chance, watch it.

PoP were never that over to begin with. Their promos were bad and Warlord looked terrible in the ring.
After getting beat by Demolition night after night and the upcoming arrival of LOD there was simply no room for them in the WWF.
Btw.... never did understand why WM5 had Demolition vs. PoP ànd Mr. Fuji . It should have been a regular tag match IMO.

demolition split up because lod came so probably Demolition didn't split till after WrestleMania VII. The Road Warriors debuted in July of 1990.
