Don't bother unless you exercise a lot (more than just lifting weights) because it'll just turn to fat

Pfft, protein shakes. The raw yolk of an eagle egg, that's what you need.

Don't bother unless you exercise a lot (more than just lifting weights) because it'll just turn to fat What a load of old rubbish! Anyway, the brands are relatively unimportant. If you have your training split right, you take a shake BEFORE your workout and one IMMEDIATELY AFTER (or as soon as possible). Then, depending on the time of day, take one before bed. On non-training days, maybe have one before bed and leave it at that. Some have two a day, even on non-training days, but that all depends how seriously you're taking it and how much money you can reasonably afford to spend on supplements. Trust me, it can get expensive. Maybe sign up to www.uk-muscle.co.uk for more tips etc.

Well, nobody's ever heard of protein shakes making people fat, so I dunno where you came by that "fact".

I don't recall saying it was a fact Just searched google to prove you wrong. It is a fact that protein and no exercise turns to fat

You give "advice" that isn't based on "fact" by your own admission. That's going to be helpful, isn't it?

Well, nobody's ever heard of protein shakes making people fat, so I dunno where you came by that "fact". I usually weightlift for an hour (5 Days a week) And i rest on the weekends. My freind has said to get your protein from meals: Tuna, Chicken, etc. But he also said to have a protein shake before or after a workout

Protein from food sources is favoured by some, yeah. It gets expensive though, to eat so many protein foods and all. If you can afford it, do it, by all means! I'd still suggest to take a shake before AND after your workout.

I presume the weightgainer ones have less protein in ?

I cuba to go into detail or argue with people. But basically whey protein shakes is just protein.... you don't have to be bodybuilding to have them, they can be part of anyones healthy diet to make sure they're getting enough protein, it wont "just turn to fat" The brand is not massivly important, but obviously some are better then others. www.cheapuksupplements.com is a good website and "Dymatize Elite" is what I used, it has very little carbs in it and it tastes good. Raw egg and milk protein shakes are fine too, but from what i've found researching, egg/milk is more of a slow burning protein form, whey protein is fast burning. So you could do with planning when to take each based on when you workout. Once upon a time i was really into weight lifting and researched alot, alot of others recommended the product also, I however now spend my time living off cereal in my room, hissing at any passing dumbell until it leaves me alone.

Weightgainer ones *might* make you hold more water. They affect people differently. I generally stick with whey protein.
On an average workout day, I'll have a pre-workout shake, a post-workout shake, a dose of l-glutamine and then before bed I take multivitamins & minerals, zinc, cod liver oil and glucosamine & omega 3. If there's a big gap between finishing my workout and bedtime, I might take another l-glutamine.
