MMAMANIA: They’re still trying to call me the heavyweight champion. I resigned and relinquished the title. Nogueira’s in my opinion the champion now in the UFC…I need to be free and clear of that before I can pursue this fight somewhere else with Fedor (Emelianenko). I’d love for the UFC to step up and make the fight happen. It has the potential to be the biggest mixed martial arts fight to date…It has the potential to do 700,000+ pay-per-view buys which is a helluva lotta money. I think 6-10 [million should be the salary] for each of us and they’re still gonna make a boatload of money on top of that. – Former (or current, depending on who you ask) UFC heavyweight champion Randy “The Natural” Couture tries to crunch the PPV numbers during a recent guest appearance on The Adam Corolla Radio Show. Couture is currently in exile after walking out midway through his UFC contract and does not wish to return to action unless a bout with WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko can be arranged. ============================================== Jeez, Randy wants tha Money...

Well, I hope that money isn't the thing that ends up holding this fight back from happening.

I hope the fight does happen. If it does happen, where would you guys like to see it take place? like what city/venue?

Which it very well may....We all know how stingy Dana is with cash payouts.

700,000+... really? He thinks that? Why don't we see what Fedor got Affliction... oh that's right.. not even 100,000 and Randy thinks he can draw in 600,000+?

I smelled annihilation from the start. A match the calibur and hype of Cotoure and Fedor has international implications, and a huge hype surrounding it..I dont think 700k plus..but maybe around 500k buys, plus a huge sold out gate.

It is a little out of context when you just post a paragraph of the interview.
Randy probably already was taking home after bonuses and everything about 2-3 million in the UFC. Carolla was saying that it is obvious that the big paydays are coming for the UFC like they are for boxing and he kept hounding Couture to say what he thinks a proper payday would be for the fight...Couture just threw out the number. I'm sure he would go a little lower than that but everything he said is true. That would be the biggest fight in MMA history.

Randy signed a 4 fight deal with the UFC, fought 2 of 4, then the whole Fedor/respect/money stuff came along. Had he just sucked it up and did the last 2 fights. He could have (maybe) retired as the champ, and would training for Fedor right now, instead of being in court.

Fedor got over 1.5 Million for that fight. It was mainly from share of ticket sales and signing bonuses though. Hell, I'd take 6 Million for 30 seconds with Fedor and that's about all Randy will last.

oops sorry thought you were talking dollars not PPV numbers. Anyway, yeah I think a fight between the 2 woudl get 6-700k easily even if Affliction put it on.

I think the only fight that would draw more than Coutire vs. Lesnar, would be Coutire vs. Fedor. Love to see Randy beat Fedor too.
