Ok so I was only like 4 or 5 really when Doink was a heel. How exactly did he turn face? And for discussion purposes, I thought he was loads better as a heel. I was looking at some other videos of him as a heel and he was really good in my opinion.

I agree that he was loads better as a heel.
Two acts come to mind as for him turning face. It happened right after SummerSlam 93, where he wrestled Bret Hart for Jerry Lawler when Lawler was faking an injury. After Hart had Doink in the sharpshooter, Lawler attacked Hart with his crutch and did a number on him. Then Tunney made Lawler wrestle Hart anyways. Following SummerSlam, Lawler blamed Doink on Superstars for failing to finish Bret off.
Not long following that on Raw, he goes towards the announce booth with a bucket of water, teasing that he is going to throw it on Vince and Savage, but then he changes his mind and throws it on Bobby Heenan. The crowd loved it, of course and Doink was a face from that point on until his end in 1995.
