I got the Summerslam Anthology and I'm currently watching the SummerSlams in order. Watching 88 and the 89 event just reminds me of how awesome wrestling was back then. Everyone can cut a promo, no boring matchs, and even guys that couldn't work very good (like the Warrior, just ask any 16 year old internet user and they will tell you how bad he was!) have entertaining matches. Plus everyone looks so different and their gimmicks are all so different.
The 80's, truly the golden era of wrestling. Next best, the early 90's.

Yeah, I recently watched SS 88 from the new Anthology set, and I look forward to watching the rest.
Although, I'm skipping around at the moment, as I've watched 1998 in full (not as good as I had remembered years ago) and about half of 1994 just yesterday.

Agreed. I clump in 91,92 as part of the 80's wrestling generation. My favorite era.

The only problem I have with the 80's is that the Fed had so many stars that there was far too many matches for a 3 hour show leaving lots of meaningless squashes & very few strong competitive matches

Ryan O'Riely works at my gym now. He even agrees, everyone today looks exactly the same. . . huge build, short black trunks, & tat's. . . . . no effort to look different anymore. . . .

I love SS89..... my fave match is DEmolition and Duggan vs the Towers and Andre.just goes to show how popular DEmolition were. I always laugh when Ventura says "look at the beef in that ring Monsoon"when Andre and the towers enter

It's like they are being printed off like money at the WWE training facilities. Black trunks, tribal tatts, and buzz cuts. That about sums it up. The style and move sets seem to come along with it as well. Headlocks, drop kicks, knee drops, and a finisher. Comparing that group of wrestlers in that pic to today's crop is disappointing as a current fan. The personalities were so much more vibrant and came natural to the performers as opposed to the script memorizing of today- especially when those scripts are poor from the beginning. WWE has become too formulaic in all matters relating to talent. I wish Vince would just trust the performers to take the ball and shine naturally without trite, hollywood humor and drama.

Oh, you won't get any argument out of me, that's for sure!! I too, loved the 80's and still do. It's the era I grew up on and it was so much better and enjoyable than today's WWE. No question about it. The 80's ruled.

The eighties were outstanding, from the beginning to the decade really until the end.
It was eclectic, you had great wrestling, the best promos, great writing and booking.
Today, quite frankly sucks comparatively speaking.

Agreed. I clump in 91,92 as part of the 80's wrestling generation. My favorite era. It's like I've said many times... the 80s were so great, they needed 3 more years. I love 80s WWE, and I wish I had more of it on dvd... I need to get the anthologies, and such... I wish they would do a SNME anthology. I also wish my VCR wasn't broken, so I could watch my old tapes.

80's for me was when i got into it, i was born in '82, first magazine was the Oct. 1987 issue with "The Brain" on it, my first ppv i ever watched was 'Mania 4, and i haven't missed a beat since, the tag team wrestling was amazing, the heel's were heel's and the face's were face's, the characters were jjust plain legendary and the imagination ran wild as far as they were concerned, i grew up a hulk-a-maniac and will forever and always be one regardless of anything that has or could happen to him or his family in the future, King Kong Bundy to this day is in my top 3 favorite bad guys of all time, just loved that guy, another reason to love the 80's, only4 ppvs at the very most a year but yes, the whole 1980's was the absolute best time in wrestling followed closely behind by the "Attitude Era" of the late 90's-early 00's, and La Vie Boheme, i still watch my coliseum home videos and taped superstars and challenges and usa wrestling and ppvs on my vcr's, yes, i posess more than 1 )4 to be exact:)) gotta love it! and if anyone has the whole collection of saturday nights main events that they could copy to dvd or vhs, i've got some $$$ for ya lol, lemme know!
