Sting has been used as a somewhat heel but it's failed miserably, as people are still cheering him.
This whole angle sadly will bomb, because the right things aren't being done to kickstart it properly.

This angle hasn't developed enough yet to be sure but I don't think it is going to be old school vs. new school.
I think it is going to be TNA led by Jeff Jarrett vs. The Sting/Angle crew. Basically homegrown vs. veterans of other companies. I just hope they don't get too many people involved for either side.
Still Jarrett could swerve the young guys and change the plot around. I don't think that is going to happen though. I hope that doesn't happen. I also hope they don't rush to the finish of it either. Take some time and make it worth watching.
I'm also interested in the fan reaction. They were divided during the Sting/AJ confrontation last night. When it was silent it was a little eerie. People were actually listening and you could hear older guys in the crowd agreeing with Sting. Then when AJ hit the ring it changed. Both guys were getting cheers and boos. Sting was right. Some of those people wanted AJ to crack him with the bat.
I thought that was a good show. Some flaws(Prince Justice and Rock n Rave). Still pretty good though.

Alex shelly was in ROH before tna.

Personally this storyline is actually one of those IMO that the viewer gets to choose who is the face and heel. Obviously the goal is to choose AJ, Joe, Jerrett, and the other young guys as the faces but what if you really do agree with Sting, and Nash, and Booker who are basically saying that these young guys aren't having to prove their way through the wrestling industry? Then you would see them as the faces. Very similar to the stuff that the fed was doing with Batista/HBK and Jericho/Big Show.

TNA gave them something that ROH can't and probably never will be able to. NATIONAL/INTERNATIONAL T.V. EXPOSURE! ROH is the minor leagues mrchase. That is like saying John Cena is still UPW or Punk is still ROH. Please. They left for the big time. Deal with it.

I think it will make for some good heat as the storyline continues.

there are no heels and faces in TNA, other than Team 3D who are with out a doubt the biggest heels they have.
Everyone else is tweeners. They do what benefits them, and thats how you determine if you cheer for them or not. Its been that way since Russo took over.

I'm sure if I looked at the roster, I could determine a few others who were definitely on one side of the fence. For example, no one is going to be mistaking the Beautiful People for faces anytime soon.

So AJ is a face, yet at Hard Justice he attacked poor, defenseless Kurt Angle on a stretcher? And Joe is a heel, yet at Victory Road he tried to beat Booker T to death?
Huh...

The thing is crowd reaction is putting these people into the categories, not their own actions. Angle and Booker have had sympathetic things happen, and maintained integrity in their matches while being "heels"(not everytime mind you but they haven't cheated every match.)
While the "faces have gone on rampages, terrorized poor bystanders, commited illegal acts in the ring, etc.
I think the only clear cut written heels are 3d, and the only clear cut faces are the prince justice league, the rest really are tweeners.
