(I touched based a bit on this in the Jeff Jarrett thread here on the boards.....)
But has anyone else got the vibe that what Sting is doing right now, is some what similar to what Bret did in '97?
Bret would always tell the truth, even if it was something the fans didn't want to hear (which utlimatly led to his final heel turn in the WWF ... with part in due thanks to Steve Austin's responses, which got the heel some praises from the fans).
Sting now is basically telling the truth about the younger guys, and as a worker myself, I've heard stories of guys even much younger than myself (I'm only 27) who've been in the business longer than I have, and really take what they have for granted. And when Sting is cutting such a promo on iMPACT!, saying how disrespectful alot of the younger guys are, some ACTUALLY are that way! Scripted promo or not, Sting hit the nail right on the head (even Trips from WWE illuted to saying something similar in a recent interview about the younger guys, who're coming up).
Because Sting was promo'ing on the faces (Joe & AJ), obviously he's garnering heat from the fans, but keeping in contact that he (Sting) is still a cemented face himself.
Bret back in '97 would talk about the decline of the fans' appreciation towards his work ethic and his values and traditions, and this garnered heat from the fans of that era, even though Bret at the time, was still classified as a face. Yet, he was telling the absolute truth, just like Sting's been doing as of late. Only Sting's beef is not with the fans, it's with the younger generation.
I guess the point to this thread is... do you think Sting will eventually become heel based on his beliefs (granted, no matter how good or morally correct they are - Just Like Bret's Were!) and follow in Bret's footsteps?
