-- The crowd are buzzing here tonight, and to be fair after some of the matches the NWA have put on recently I can’t blame them The announce team were already in place when I got to my seat, with Kevin Steen & El Generico greeting people in the crowd. --
Dark Match:
0) Brent Albright & Kenny Omega defeated Claudio Castagnoli & Ricky Landell when Brent Albright defeated Ricky Landell by submission with a Crowbar. **
Main Show:
-- Nigel McGuiness kicked off the night, demanding a microphone. He spent some time insulting the fans before guaranteeing that he is coming for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, no matter who he has to go though to do it. A good start, McGuiness really got the fans to hate him. --
1) Tyler Black defeated Hi69 with the Paroxyzm. A solid debut for Black tonight, he really put on a good performance, and the crowd were really into the match. I’m a big supporter of him, and am predicting big things for him in 2009. **1/2
-- After the match Tyler Black cut a promo about how NWA is on the verge of a revolution, and that Black will be at the forefront. Short but sweet promo from Black, although I’m not sure on where they are going with his character following this. --
2) Delirious & Hallowicked defeated Los Luchas when Delirious defeated Zokre with the Chemical Imbalance #2. I wasn’t expecting to see Delirious here in the NWA so soon, but I’m glad he is, since this match was great. Both Zokre and Phoenix Star have lost their last four matches. Considering they were the tag team champions not too long ago things don’t look good for them. **1/2.
-- Joey Ryan and Larry Sweeney accompany Davey Richards to the ring, trying to get him pumped up for his match. Ryan and Sweeney are meant to be the comedy pairing of SNS, while Richards is the straight man. It works, since these three are probably the most interesting part of NWA at the moment. --
3) Davey Richards defeated Trevor Murdock with a Shooting Star Press. Christ this match was superb. Richards & Murdock just clicked in the ring, and it made for one of the best matches of the night. The match went back and forth, and either man could have got the win at any time. Joey Ryan tried to interfere, but all he did was distract Richards, who told him to grow up. Richards still managed to get the win though in the best high spot of the night, connecting with a sublime Shooting Star Press. ****
4) NWA World Junior Championship Match - Mike Quackenbush defeated Josh Abercrombie by submission with a Lightning Lock. I was expecting more from these two, but they didn’t deliver. Abercrombie was impressive when he first started here, but he’s become predictable, and it was down to Quackenbush to make this exciting. Quack gets another win here, and it doesn’t look like he will be dropping the title any time soon. 2nd Defence. ***
-- Following the match Quackenbush talked about how his open challenge will continue for as long as it is needed, and that he is looking for the next big thing to take under his wing. There’s been some rumours that Quack may be taking some time off from in ring work, so this could be leading to something. --
5) Kevin Steen defeated Cheech with a Package Piledriver. This was not the best choice for the penultimate match, but it was still fun to watch. I’m expecting this to build towards a tag title match down the line and when it actually happens it will be one to watch. Steen went all out for this, and the crowd really got behind him, popping loud when Steen got the pinfall. ***
-- Rob Conway was out next, looking pretty solemn. Conway discussed how he hasn’t exactly been on a hot streak recently, but that it will all change soon. Conway promised that he will bring the NWA World Heavyweight Championship home with him soon. I for one don’t see it happening. --
6) NWA World Heavyweight Championship Match – Adam Pearce defeated El Generico with a Big Splash. This wasn’t my favourite match tonight, but it was still really fun to watch. Pearce and Generico had a cat and mouse thing going on, with Pearce trying to dominate only to be embarrassed every time when he couldn’t catch Generico. There were times when it really looked like Generico could pick up the title, which is something that NWA really do well, but in the end it wasn’t to be, and Pearce picked up the win following a devastating Backbreaker/ Big Splash combination. 2nd Defence. ***1/2.
Show Notes: The show wasn’t as good as it could have been, but it was really fun to watch, and there were definite jump out of your seat moments. Pearce’s world title run looks like it could last a while from tonight’s performance. ***1/2[/font]
