MMAMANIA:
“I’ll retire next year, I already gave my all. I don’t need to prove anything for anyone and within one year I’ll put my gloves aside.”
– UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva — the man who tells company president Dana White that he wants to fight more often — sounds like he may be bored. And who can blame him if the promotion doesn’t get him someone who will take him beyond the second round. Let’s hope something has been lost in translation or that he gets some money fights in the loaded light heavyweight division … fast. Real fast. ===========================================

I'd hate to see him go. Silva vs. Chuck would be awesome.

I'd be practically heartbroken if Anderson Silva retired that soon, but I truly feel he's already cemented his legacy as one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time. While that's a debatable point that some may not agree with me on, I think another year of absolute domination may bring more people to that conclusion.
Regardless of P4P arguments and rankings and whether or not he's fighting cans or any of that other stuff, one thing you can't take away from Anderson Silva is that he loves this business, he respects this business, and he's given a lot to this business.
I'd hate for him to retire, but I understand his reasoning completely. Hopefully something or somebody lights a fire under him and he decides to keep the gloves on for just a bit longer.

That's some really disappointing news to hear. I'd hate to see The Spider go, but if he's dead set on stepping aside, lets hope that we get some solid match-ups within the next year.

Wow!
The thing is, I can respect people "walking away" with their health.

The only way he will change his mind is if he gets beat, IMO. Which I can only see happening at 205.

I bet he'll have a great career as a coach, whenever he does retire.
How would you like to tell people your striking coach is Anderson Silva?

IMO if he does infact retire, with him only being, what...33?...within a year or so the UFC will offer him a fight that interests him. I respect his decision to possibly retire at the top of his game with his health, but in all sports there are just a few RARE cases of people retiring and staying retired at there prime.

God dammit. I was going to post this. I think CagePotato.com had a great punchline on the bottom of their version of the article.
"Going out on top... What a concept."

that's what i was thinking! Rich could get his belt back. How disheartening it'd be for Franklin to have the belt, yet still not have a chance against Silva. LoL.

Man, I'm not really sure Rich would even want the title that way.
Anderson and Rich have mass respect for each other, but if Rich grabs the strap after Silva retires, he'll probably always wonder if he could've won it off of Silva or if he'd just get his ass handed to him for the third time.
Rich would make a good champ, no doubt no doubt, but I think there'll be a lot of people, including Rich himself, who would think "Man, he'd probably never have gotten the belt back if it weren't for The Spider going out on top."

At least Nog has the ability to possibly beat Couture or Lesnar. ... But if you're referencing him not being able to beat Fedor, then yes, I agree.

I am not the biggest Silva fan but there are a lot of good fights available for him in 205. ANd I still think Hendo can beat him at 185.

Give us Silva vs. GSP! I think GSP is the only man that would be able to beat him. Or even let Wandy have a shot at him!

Silva still has numerous fights left at 205, or even the possibility of Wandy dropping down to 185. I'm the biggest GSP fan around but I truly believe Silva would just walk right through him. The size would be to much.
