my wife and i were talking about spending habits and what not and it got me thinking about how much money i've spent over the years. last year we bought our house for $235,000 and a week later we bought her 2008 nissan altima then went and bought myself a 2008 jeep wrangler. it was quite an expensive year. now technically that doesn't count since you pay it off over time. therefore 2004 was my most expensive year. it started off by me buying her a pug puppy for $1,500. then buying my brand new (at the time) mini cooper. i count this because i put $8,000 down. then we booked a vacation to hawaii which costed about $5,000. lastly i bought her an engagement ring to propose in hawaii that ran me $11,000. it was quite the year. so is there anything that you really went to town on? Good lord, are you a doctor or a drug dealer? You must have some sort of insane amount of income to throw your money around like that, or you're in debt up to yor eyeballs and don't ever plan on getting out. nope no debt other than a couple hundred on a credit card. i was just always good with my money and saved everything i made. i used to work under the table as a waiter when i was 14 and saved all the cash. i actually drive a truck for a living and it's all about being smart with it. that year was over the top but i don't ever buy anything i can't afford.

Yeah pretty much anyone with a steady job can be well off as long as they don't have a kid or divorce.

I guess going by things I wanted and not needed, July '08-July '09 was definitely my most expensive year. Had to buy a bunch of furniture for my new apartment - 2 grand or so later... Spent about 6 grand on a home theater (plasma, surround sound, PS3, etc., etc.) and probably about 5 grand on guitars/gear, other hobbies, etc. Not mention I just got back from Cancun which all in all cost me upwards of $2500 (I fronted the woman's half). Plus all the souvenirs and crap we bought on the trip. Damn, that really makes me realize how much money I've spent on pretty useless crap. Thank God I saved while working.

Easy, this year was my most expensive ever. My wife's mother passed away, and shortly thereafter we found out that she'd lied on her insurance application. The insurance company voided her claim and left all of her debts and expenses to us... a newly married, unemployed couple on their own for the first time. Her funeral and related arrangements ran over $8,000. She had also been paying for the car that my wife was using to get to school everyday... so it was repossessed. So then we had to buy a new car... on a $2,500 budget!! We found a nice reliable ride after a LONG stressful search, and three days later we found out that it's tranny had to be rebuilt or replaced and it needed new tires. THAT ran us another $1,800. Not even a week had passed after the car was fixed that I got a call from... the woman my father widowed. (Step-mom) She needed to send my little brother (on my dad's side) to come live with us for a while because she "...just can't handle it anymore... and no one else will take him". So we go through this whole ordeal with the Dept. Of Family And Children Services to have him legally reside with us. Now, I don't mean to sound harsh, but I think it was one of the most trying times of my life. From day one things were bad. After only two weeks he'd managed to destroy our couch, make TONS of long distance calls, and eat us out of house and home... a trend which continued until the day he left. During his stay here, our power bill went from $180 a month to almost $600 consistently. We bought him toys and playsets and those stupid Chaotic cards that he jizzes all over... we even bought him a f*cking Xbox w/ carrying case, 3 controllers and 11 games, and all he did was mope around and complain. We worked hard for MONTHS toward getting him into counseling (at his mother's request) and just when he was about to start, she picked him up and took him home with practically no notice! It was horrible and trying on my personal health. Did I mention that? He was so irritating that I LITERALLY kept an upset stomach, I developed IBS with no history of digestional issues, I began having constant headaches, blackouts, palpitations, migraines, and even nosebleeds!!! After he left, so did all my symptoms. Really. You can't make this sh*t up. Then, while he was living with us, I got a notice from the bank that if I wasn't enrolled in school I'd have to start paying off my student loan debt... which is somewhere in the range of $10,000. Well, DFACS were pretty adamant that someone MUST be home to watch him at all times, and with my wife already busy with nursing school and clinicals, there was no hope for me getting back into class, so we had no choice but to begin payments. All in all... its been rough to say the least... and its only August.

Put $13,000 down on a mercedes, spent roughly $15,000+ on a vacation to Ibiza all within a month so that I believe is the most I spent without it being made out in payments.
