Do you guys think it was a mistake for Girardi to leave Brian Bruney off the ALDS roster in favor of Chad Gaudin? I think that Bruney coming in for an inning throwing 95 IF HE CAN THROW STRIKES, is more effective than Gaudin. The only thing Gaudin could do which would be a benefit is if one of the starters comes out in like the 3rd inning..in which case the Yankees are losing the series if their pitchers don't go deep. Personally, no. With the struggles Bruney had this year, not to mention Gaudin pitched pretty decent down the stretch. I'd rather have a guy like Gaudin on the roster for that reason, if the Yanks lose a starter early we need someone to come in and hold it down for a few innings...without "wasting" Aceves. We have enough "set-up" guys like Bruney

I don't care about the towels. It's been done forever, and nobody has bothered to complain enough for baseball to do anything about it. There is nothing stopping Yankees fans from doing the same thing. I never once thought about that being the problem in the 91 World Series. Hrbeck pulling Ron Gant off of first base? That was a problem. But the Braves do the tomahawks sometimes, though the fans rarely get excited enough to bother now. But I don't mind it at all. In fact, I wish more teams did it. My only complain is that it's distracting to the PITCHERS. The home fans only twirl them when the VISITING team is pitching. Now, I'm a fair guy, let's compromise here. Fair is fair, so if the home fans want to twirl towels in an attempt to distract the visiting pitchers, then they should be FORCED to also twirl them while their home team is pitching as well. That seems fair. Ummm, the Phillies fans twirl them all the time when the pitcher has 2 outs and 2 strikes. They also twirled them during the World Series whn Lidge was pitching in the ninth and also in the clinchers for the NL East the last two years. So I must ask, what the hell are you talking about?

HOWEVER, as we unfortunately know, it's often better to be HOT than good....and Bruney pitched well when it mattered his last handful of appearances. And maybe I'm being ignorant, but I just place a very high value on relievers who can come in and throw 96 IF they can throw it for strikes...which has been a problem for Bruney all year. Anything can happen, but IF Sabathia, Burnett and Pettitte do their jobs, we'd have more situations to use a guy like Bruney for one, than a guy like Gaudin for multiple innings...hopefully.

It's not a big deal, but I'm just saying if it was me on the mound, it would be distracting to me.
I like hot crowds, I like chants and screaming and clapping and fans going wild.....but as a player, 30,000+ spinning cloths that are a color that CLEARLY stands out and will catch your eye CAN be DISTRACTING.
That's my only problem.

"Checking out the Rockies Hurler."
Makes me think of the Conan old time baseball skit.

It definitley helps to have a guy who throws heat for strikes...however they have that now with Joba out of the pen. I think if somehow Joba made the rotation Bruney would have been in there too. The advantage to Gaudin is that he can go for a couple of innings if (god forbid) one of the big 3 gets hurt or gets lit up. Unlike Bruney who would be used for, at most, one inning. However unlikely an injury would occur...it could happen, and I'd rather have Gaudin for insurance on that. With them taking the longer schedule they will be able to use Joba/Hughes/Mo for 7,8,9 in most games. That right there makes me more confident than I've been in the last 5 years for the Yankees in the playoffs

Lorenzo stop with your stupid conspiracies about how baseball is fixed. You complain about EVERYTHING. You only see the bad in things.

Lorenzo cracks me up. The umpires are all biased because MLB is conspiring against certain teams. Also, fans should not be allowed to try to distract opposing pitchers by waving towels. I suppose distracting them by booing them or heckling them is okay, but visual distractions are not.

Cliff Beast-Lee looked amazing! Phillies offense looked just as good and did it without the long ball. What a game! 1-0 Phillies! Let's do it again tomorrow boys

Jon Miller running down A-Rod's post season stats. 1 RBI in his last 18 post season games. 0-16 with RISP.
