Manny Ramirez exercised his $20 million dollar option for 2010. No surprise. Even Sosa's eyes are a different color. Maybe he wants to be a zombie.

Carl Pavano, Jaret Wright, Jason Giambi, Tony Womack, and so on. We had our share of free agent failures before it finally worked out.

lmao jaret wright.
You cannot call Giambi a failure for you guys, though. Granted he hit only .260, he still had 209 HR's...pretty damn good considering half the time he was dying from asian AIDS.

Yeah I guess that is true. He was still a productive player, but for the money they signed him, they expected him to put up the numbers similar to his MVP-type years. Plus after half the contract he wasn't even a below average first basemen anymore. He was good, but not as good as they hoped he'd be.

Well that's the risk you take when you sign a player to a long term contract, you know what to expect the first few years but cannot predict injuries and deterioration of skills and or muscle, etc, etc.

Exactly. If it works out, you look like a genius, if it doesn't, people criticize you. You really have to do your homework on a player before you commit long term on them, which is what I think was a big part of how it worked for the Yankees this year. Before they were handing out contracts to Pavano even though he had ONE good year and Jaret Wright even though he failed his physical. This time I think they signed the right guys, younger players who are just hitting their primes and are likely to be productive for years to come.
