Kids are alot more important than collectors. Less collectors than kids, fact. Look at the Cena's and Mysterios they don't keep on releasing them cause they don't sell. The two pack selection was terrible. Proof is in the full shelves. If they weren't main eventers in the 80's they don't sell. Honkey, Rude, etc. Hell look at the Steamboats warming the shelves and he was voted most wanted behind Savage many times. When they release the new two packs watch at all the Von Erichs warming the shelves. They better release a two pack with Austin, Rock or HHH with a lesser charictor or it too will hurt sales. My guess the third two pack will be: Randy Savage and Steamboat I think that's why we didn't see it because they didnt' want everyone waiting for this two pack and not buying the others.

A Steamboat/Macho Man 2-pack would be amazing, but then it goes back to what you were saying about the kids vs the collectors. Look at all the DM Macho Mans sitting on the shelves right now. The kids are buying the HBK while Macho Man is sort of a forgotten memory. So there is a great deal of validity in that if you ask me. Although, $23 for one figure is pretty high in relation to what parents are paying for the other toys they are buying their kids. The DM figures are great but it feels largely like a packaging gimmick to me. If you put yourself in a parents shoes I think a large majority of you would not buy Legends 2-packs or DM figures for your children with that price point and those characters.

Average to boring character selection + Price that isn't a value (which multipacks are supposed to be) + terrible headscans = low sales.
Wave 1 was a combination of everything above.

There is no 3rd set. Rockers and Von Erichs are it for Series 2.

There is no 3rd set. Rockers and Von Erichs are it for Series 2. Who said this and when? I didn't hear that at all. I remember them saying that they didn't know or it would be a surprise. I think Mattel needs to do a chat sometime soon and clear up ALOT of issues.

Mattel hasn't said it, but I'd bet dollars to donuts that there is no third set either. They've reduced the Legends singles from 6 to 4, Legends 2-packs are warming shelves, and they have not addressed this fabled 3rd set in series 2 in almost a year...
Of course I might eat some crow come NY Toy Fare next month, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's just the Rockers and the Von Erichs.
I don't care, as long as I get my Rockers and Von Erichs!!!

I actually liked the 2-pack selections.
The Bushwackers, Bob Orton and Nickoli Volkoff are Fantasic figures!

they need a weekly 2 hr LEGENDS show. Mene Gene hosting, different Legend guests every week talking about the matches. Showing classic matches. Imagine getting Savage & Warrior in the studio talking about it, then showing the match from WMVII (then kids will see them & want the figs). They Build up the matches they are gonna show. It could help the figs sell great.

If there is a third set, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if it is a re-release of a single with a manager (i.e. Perfect and Heenan, Taker and Paul Bearer, DiBiase and Virgil).

OK...tell me who you think would have sold. I think are are about as wrong as one person could be in your assessment. This is a Legends line...how is SCSA, Ricky Steamboat, Sgt. Slaughter, Dusty Rhodes & the LOD a bad line-up? I also think you're ridiculous by saying terrible headscans. Which ones? If you say Rhodes...I have no more time for you. The others were fantastic as well. Like I said before...I question if there is really a huge demand for the Legends line most of us want. I hope there is...I really do. I just think the people buying them (collectors), have really curtailed their purchasing of action figures the last few years. I think the character selection for a wrestling legends line so far has been outstanding. Unfortunately...I just don't think there are enough people like me out there that will support a Legends line in this economic climate. I don't wanna push the panic button quite yet, but this line would not be going down to 4 figures per wave if the line was selling well.

We really don't know. I never had a problem finding any of the Jakks CS. I saw an awful lot of Jakks CS figures sitting around. Also...if they did sell better, the climate was much better in terms of collector purchasing. The economy was good and prices were better. We'll see at Toy Fair what Mattel's plans for Legends will be.

And that was NOT Legion of Doom, that was the Road Warriors in series 1. There is a big difference to someone who never watch WCCW/NWA or whatever, but only remembers them from WWF. How about Slaughter in blue pants and a white top?? I never remember seeing him in such an outfit. Go ahead and google Sarge's images and you won't find a single one on the first five pages that looks like this. Most have camo. Do the same with the others. The characters were fine, but the outfits/gimmicks aren't what most remember best. In fact, they're too obscure. If it were a camo Sarge I bet you'd have a heck of time finding one.

My experience with the Mattel Legends two-packs were voiced in another Legends two-pack thread but I will reiterate here. I for one attribute peg warming to a variety of factors which all result in the lack of intrinsic value. The selection of characters, the hit or miss head sculpts, the choice of ring attires, large production figures, etc. all contribute to a poor consumer response.
I purchase Legends based on familiarity first. For example, if I recognize a character in an attire I previously remembered when I was a child the figure creates intrinsic value. As a result, I am more apt to purchase the figure or multiples of the same figure. I purchased two Macho Man's and two Warriors. However, if the character/attire are not recognizable I am less likely to purchase the figure. I did not purchase the Orton/Piper two pack (combination of sculpt for Piper and lack of connection to Orton), George the Animal Steele, the upcoming Von Erich two-pack and the upcoming Magnum TA figure(s).
Keep in mind, this is a collector speaking. Imagine if I was 15 or 20 years old. I would probably pass on Sheik, Orton, Volkoff, Orndorff, Steele, Slaughter (based on attire), etc. Lets face it, these wrestlers did not have mass appeal during professional wrestlings prime.
Now, lets give Mattel credit where credit is due. Mattel has responded to the situation by lowering the number of characters per Legends series, providing recognizable characters (from the golden age of wrestling w/ Legends 5) and providing larger number of popular characters per case of figures (weighted cases). Lets see how the strategy works.
I am an advocate for pleasing everyone and I have been an advocate for establishing a WWE club on mattycollector.com for the "less popular" characters (Magnum TA, Kevin Von Erich, these types) collectors/old school fans grew up watching. Lets hope Mattel incorporates this idea into their strategic planning.
Until then, lets be patient and see what the future holds. We will get the Rockers, the Von Erichs (I wish we would just get a Texas Tornado!) and additional tag team sets (lobbying for HARLEM HEAT!).

I don't wanna push the panic button quite yet, but this line would not be going down to 4 figures per wave if the line was selling well. I'm not talking about the lineup for the regular line, this is a thread about the LEGENDS TAG TEAM PACKS, which is what I was discussing. Everything I said is absolutely true about the tag packs. Sheik/Volkoff is a moderate draw, but remember that Sheik already has had a ton of figures in the past (so there's no wow factor there) and the one cool new outfit of the Sheik's is on a single card. While I like Volkoff, he's never been a highly requested figure. His scan is horrible (however if you put Iron Sheik's doo-rag on him he looks like Original Sheik) and he's just an average figure. The Bushwhackers are a reasonably popular team, but because they were mostly a "joke" team in the WWF, their appeal is limited to people getting them for giggles. Both figures are the exact same and they have almost no accessories. Scans are decent, but not great. Piper and Orton is the best set in the sense that the Bob Orton figure is great (although his hat is stupid) but they screwed the pooch by making Piper have this horrible buck-toothed scan. In order to get a decent Piper you have to buy this set, then the EG set. If this set would have had the EG gear and head, it would have sold like hotcakes. Without it, it's a Bob Orton figure and again, he's not very popular. So most of the tag team Wave 1 figures had issues or needed to be fixed. At $30 a pop, that's too much. Whackers lack of accessories really cuts down on their value and most people are picking up the better single Sheik and skipping the Piper/Orton set to wait for a better Piper. Everything I said was categorically correct. Since you asked, though, there were a few problems with the singles Wave 1 lineup, but it was mostly outfit selection. I liked the alternate outfits, but it certainly makes a lot of them less priority when the figures cost so much. Tons of people basically said, "I'll wait for them to come out in their iconic attire".

My TRU sold 2, maybe 3 of the Legends 2-packs. During the holiday rush they finally moved the Legends 1 and 2 figures that were sitting around as well as stocking Legends 3. The 2-Packs didn't move and the extra case of them still there collecting dust. I know its the same case because it has some order numbers written on it in black sharpie. There is no single reason they are not moving but the bottom line is they are not moving and reorders will be low for the next wave. Both Wal-Marts here have almost given up on the Legends figures as they did with the Jakks Classic Superstars figures but TRU always moved the Jakks figures. It's odd that the all the Mattel stuff moves eventually here except the Legends stuff.

I'm with you. Many headscans are not well done. Also what hurts is the size and the cheap plastic which add I think to the poor head sculpts. Jakks may have been lazy at times wiht the same body and head molds but at least they were more durable and I felt that I was getting my moneys worth. Look at he TNA line. It's cheaper and better made even if they have used and will continue to use the same Sting and Hardy scan 200 times.
