With all the fighting & arguing on the board lately I think it's time to bring some good ol fashioned fun. Let's discuss the past year with Mattel's takeover into the WWE Action Figure (not doll) world!
Who is surprised? Who is not? Complaints? Praises?
Let's discuss the overall year. What were you're favorite things to come out of the last year? What were your least favorite? What were you surprised to see? What is your biggest disappointment
What do you want to see improved over the next year +?
Or just share some of your favorite stories/memories of this past year in WWE figure collecting!

I think it's fair to say that Mattel have gone above and beyond with the WWE line.
They took the license and actually listened to what we, the collectors, wanted and delivered. They keep getting better and better, too. They don't have their own agenda where they force feed us whatever they want to do, they get excited about what we want and go all out. The Legends figures are a perfect example of this.
We wanted more details on the figures after Jakks sent out great prototype shots, then delivered a miserable product (Chief Jay Strongbow's head dress for example). We wanted Macho Man and Ricky Steamboat, which we got, instead of a list of endless "we can't discuss that"'s from Jakks.
Basically, Mattel are amazing. People's complaints about the figures are trivial and unnecessary. The figures destroy Jakks figures. Even the better ones that Jakks did look crap compared to most of the Mattel ones. I have no complaints. Just keep advancing like you are doing. Amazing.

I am so surprised about the original molds for figures. Evan's knee pads and Flash Rey's head are two examples that jump out at me. The accessories are incredible. Mattel won me over in a big way. The only thing I hated was the knee pads being so stiff and that looks like it is slowly being fixed.
I was surprised about Ricky and Macho! I am also surprised we did not get a ton of Bret Harts this year. He was all over Raw at the start of mattel's reign.
The one thing I want in the next year is weapons. Either with figures or in weapon sets. The chairs with the WM figures was a step in the right direction. So is the flex force packs with accessories. I am just hoping that they become more readily available.
A second thing I want this year is more exclusives! For mattycollector and rsc!
And I will be greedy and ask for a third thing. I would love to see TRU get every wave. I hate the series skipping. I don't know if the problem is on TRU or mattel.

I would like to see some special edition figures. The 1/1000's are ok with the belts, but I feel like the one area where Jakks still has the lead on Mattel are the special editions.

Mattel has made me more of a collector than ever. Same. With Jakks, I only bought Classic Superstars here and there - maybe like 1 or 2 every couple months. Now, I buy every Legends and every Elite. I love WWE Mattel.

Mattel has really impressed me. I buy one of each character in Basic and Elite form, One of every character in Legends form, I have all of the Entrance Greats and plan to get all of the Defining Moments. Was really glad to see Macho, and their attention to detail is incredible. The only thing I would wish for are some new talents made into figures. My guess is we'll get Riley, McGillicutty, and Harris, But I really wanted to see the Dude Busters and Archer/Hawkins. Also, really hope to see some figure belts. Not just the current, but hopefully some classics as well as recently retired ones(WWE and World Tag, Women's, Cruiserweight).

Mattel has made me more of a collector than ever. absolutely, with Jakks while I bought most of the figures from each line I never went out of my way for any of them, maybe went hunting once and a while and would just have my mom look out for them or something, and barely ever ordered from Ringside unless it was an exclusive. With Mattel i find my self not wanting to wait until retail and constantly ordering from Ringside and hunting for whatever it is I need, so i'd consider that the best part of what Mattel has done

I’m surprised, because I thought that Jakks was a superior company but the detail that Mattel puts into these figures is amazing.
Detail is awesome, but the price is too much. But I would rather have great detail that costs too much than a less detailed figure that costs less. In a perfect world we would be getting great detail and a lower price.
I’m a collector of the Legends. I didn’t collect the Jakks Classic Superstars line and I’ve been kicking myself for not doing so. The first one I bought was “Ravishing” Rick Rude since then I have bought the following- Iron Sheik Kamala Jimmy Snuka Dusty Rhodes Ricky Steamboat Hawk Sgt. Slaughter Terry Funk George Steele Jake Roberts
I’m shocked to see a figure of a “Macho Man” Randy Savage; with the distances that McMahon has with Savage it is just amazing that McMahon agreed to a Savage figure. Simply awesome
Not really disappointed in how Mattel produces its figures, but the distribution SUCKS… I WANT MR. PERFECT! I cannot find series 3 anywhere.
Hopes for next year more legends figures, some fans bypass the older stars but for a nostalgic fan I want more old school stars like Dory Funk, Jr. even a pioneer set of Frank Gotch and George Hackenschmidt would be awesome. Plus a Gorgeous George figure is my most wanted figure.

I have only been collecting for less than six months. I have over 300 figures now. I have a real problem lol. But the Mattel line is so amazing. I just finished getting up to date on the legends line. Its just so great.

Well, With Jakks I was collecting every CS, and Every new character from the RA AD and such and such lines... however with Mattel I'm only collecting The Legends and DM's aside from a few Elites of people like Rey, Jericho, HBK, Punk and I ordered Elite 8 Taker from Ringside. That's not a slight on Mattel though I just can't start over. I have more bills and rent and less spending money so I can't collect current guys. Plus I'm not interested. As many people have said, the distribution leaves something to be desired, I believe this was also a DC and MOTU problem as well as I recall collectors of those lines pointing out. Overall, I think they are running with the ball they were given and it looks encouraging.

Where Jakks has the advantage is numbers (in the classic line). I would LOVE to see figures of Bruiser Brody and Abdullah the Butcher in this line, but I doubt we will. If Mattel can keep the license for 10 years or more, and they put out 5 series of 4 a year, we could see the numbers, but time will tell. Also, no matter what they say, a WWE Legends line is not complete without Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair. I can't wait for them to leave TNA (or for TNA to fold) so we can get these from Mattel.
What I like most about the figures from Mattel? The sculpts are just more dead on, the bodies are not as uniform and look better, but the best thing - the figures are much more in scale. When we get to them we will NOT see a Paul Bearer that is as tall as the Undertaker, and we will NOT see an Outsiders 2-pack where Hall and Nash are the same height.

They have really impressed me and got me back into collecting last January. I used to barely collect Jakks Classics towards the end of the run, but now I see myself buying a little bit of everything from Mattel. Savage, Scale, and Detail surprised/impressed me the most.
There are two main things I hope to see in the future: 1) Ring packs with different aprons/ropes 2) No goofy poses in the boxes. Some of my Legends just have ridiculously warped legs or loose feet and have a hard time standing up. This probably can be fixed by hot air/water, but I shouldn't have to be doing that. At the high prices I expect better.

Mattel made me regret buying my Classic Superstars figures because they're Legends line is the best classic line I have ever seen.

No real surprises for me.
My praise for Mattel is that they managed to get a lot of product out and re-brand the WWE action figures.
My complaints are simple: 1. Quality Control has been worse on my figures then I had with Jakks. 2. When you put the figures together the Mattel line's use of scale is nice, however just like with Jakks the parts reuse and poor choices make some of the fugues look to similar and some out right wrong looking.
My favorite figures was the EG Piper, my least favorite the OTL Punk figure. Besides him missing the decals his head looked like a rotting plum.
Biggest disappointment was the way Mattel has turned out so many re-paints. I was expecting re-paints but 20 Cena figures was a bit much. Made the WWE figure line as a whole feel like it was shelf filler for a select few figures.
What can Mattel do to improve: Start a Matty Collector series of figures that delivers on the "most detailed and accurate" line.

I am a new collector and it's because of Mattel that I started collecting. The figures just look so good. The Legends line is what got me hooked. Seeing the stars I grew up watching come alive in such detail amazed me.
