Mattel is having problems with sellng obsure figures. You can't have every series with Rock Austin, Undertaker etc. I propose they do what Marvel and DC did to sell obsure figures with their lines..make a build a figure. This was a huge success with Marvel Legends (for those of us who remember) once they included Galactus and Sentianl the line sold more than three times as many figures. So have them come out with build an Andre, Big Show, Giant Gonzalas, etc. you wouldnt even actually need to be a huge wreslter maybe even a diva or someone obsure but would draw enough intrest so people will buy not just the Macho but the Model

Honestly, you have a great idea from a business stand point. It would definitely generate more sales and Mattel already currently does it and has seen strong success with their DC Universe Line in doing this.
However, me personally.....I HATE THIS. Personally, I dont want every figure from every line and a lot of the times I do want the BAF. I certainly would not want to start buying figures for the part only. Its a selfish personal standpoint....but its how I feel.

Build a Figure was discussed in the Toy Fair Videos.

To me, build a figure is a dirty tactic to try and get people to buy something they don't really want just to get a missing piece. That kind of crap pisses me off and I hope Mattel doesn't start doing this with the WWE line. I don't want the only way I'm going to get a certain figure to be if I am forced to spend money on things I don't otherwise want.

I'd be down for it if for no other reason than to get more figures but with only six waves in, Mattel would have to go pretty obscure for me not to want to get a legend.

I've a feeling that assuming Mattel does this "promo" on wrestling figures, the naughty ones will just steal the parts from the MOC's on the pegs and shelves just so they could assemble the figure.

Are the ones that they did with the DC figures of good quality?

I have nothing against BAF, but as a MOC collector BAF offers no extra incentive for me. I am sure there are many others in the same boat.

Are the ones that they did with the DC figures of good quality? The two lines I collect are WWE and DC Classics and I can say the Build a Figure for them (they call it Collect & Connect) is very high quality. The only real issue they have had was one wave was hard to find, and in that wave one of the figures was extremely hard to find - this was the one with the BAF's head and lower torso. But I have had no issue finding figures for WWE so I wouldn't consider this an issue at all.

I'm assuming they are easy to put together too.

honestly, Mattel should just do the 4 figs per wave. if they are going to do a BAF, make it an exclusive and also if they can't do another box set like rey, Make a pack where example:
for someone that is a strong fan of say, Shawn Michaels. Add parts like a 70s head, 80s head, 90s, 2002, 2010 and add in his AWA attire, Rockers Attire, IC title win attire, 2002 Return attire and any kind of current attire he wore until his retirement.
BAF concept would work in that perspective but to do it just to get away with ppl buying something we don't need is just not a good business plot.

I collect DC Universe Classics and Marvel legends along with WWE Mattel figures and I gotta say that this would be a great idea!!!! I think Mattel would make enough figures to get the pieces by themselves even on ebay!!! I really hope they do this and make like 8-10 inch BAF or CNC, or make the BAF a manager in real scale form and base the wave around that BAF !!! Just a thought !!! Im all up for it!!!

now that it is confirmed Legends two packs are done 4 now, i think the LEGENDS single series should return to 6. or announce the Legends 2 packs and new 3 packs are being sold exclusively @ RingSide Collectibles or that matty Mattel Collector site...
if having so much gear, accessories, and articulation costs too much money then just give us BASIC Legends in two pack or 3 packs.. many gear can simply just be painted and need nothing more at all : Bret & Anvil ( i know brets jacket is important but thats what DM is for) or even better idea- do some more "heritage" lines in the ppv waves : SummerSlam Heritage - u can put a cena from bla, Rock from 2002, Mankind 97, HBK 95, earthquake 90, Brutus Beefcake 89
the possibilities are endless.. heck imagine a "kids toy" tag team belt pack with RED LOD! or PUT THE DARN ROCKERS IN ONE OF THOSE!!!
very made tim ash couldnt even ask r u still goin to release the rockers and how?

I mean currently the figures are not easily disassembled and assembled. They are pretty solidly put together. My big fear would be that the build a figure fig would not be sturdy enough to withstand play. The last thing I want is my Wrestler, Ref, or Commentator to fall apart.

I don't like the idea. Now, don't get me wrong, the BAF are cool but I collected the DCU/ Marvel Legends and I hated looking for and buying a figure just for the part.
I would rather they made exclusives or even have a Legends collector subscription like they do with the Masters of the Universe line.

I think making it an exclusive would make it even harder to find especially a popular figure but o well let's see what happens!!! I do collect all of them so Im up for it!!!

The main problem with the Build-a-Figure concept is that it's either going to eat into the detail/accessories budget (so say the Build-a-Figure was a ref, a Bossman figure might have a ref's arm as the bundled "accessory" instead of a nightstick and shades)... Or it could lead to a price increase on the figures.
