Two part question, actually. Along with a short intro, haha.
I went to my local WalMart about 2-3 weeks ago and found the complete Elite 7 set (minus Smith). So I grabbed all 5 of them and as I turned around, my friend (who doesn't even collect) asks me "Hey, didn't you say these ones come with accessories and whatnot?" At that point a noticed that ALL the accessories from each figure is missing. Hornswoggle is shirtless "standing on nothing" and the others are missing the additions, as well. I also notice that the side flaps are sort of ripped (not a very good switcher). Since then I haven't found any of this series, at that WalMart. So with some free time today and some birthday money... I've decided while I'm out with my brother, possibly hitting up some Targets and WalMarts (maybe TRU, if they have them). So onto my questions:
Does it still work, to call a store and ask the employees if they have a specific series/wrestler in stock... or is it better to go into each individual store and check for myself? I haven't figure hunted since the early JAKKS RA days (unless I see the figure I want, by randomly looking), so I'm not too sure if there's easier ways.
I know Target does them by DCPI numbers, so checking for a specific series is a bit troublesome. How about other stores? Toys R Us, WalMart, KMart... do these companies still do UPC codes? I just really don't wanna waste my time searching if there's no chance they'll have them, ya know? Already looked once and was very annoyed by the outcome.
Also, if anyone has any DCPI/UPC codes for Elite 7... it'd greatly be appreciated and karma will be given (positive or negative, whichever is preferred). Thanks, guys!

The last time I called a store was a Kmart looking for Legends 4. The girl I spoke to didn't seem too sure about whether they were in stock or not. Luckily, I took a chance and they were in fact there.
Item numbers are probably the most reliable way of checking inventory over the phone. I try not to mention by name what I'm looking for.
For the most part though I usually just check in person, because most of the time you will end up talking to someone who isn't familiar with the product.

Employees are far too lazy to actually look, more often than not they will just tell you no.

The only store I call is TRU. All the TRUs around here have helpful employees for the most part. The employees of the other big box stores I found would just lie around 75% of the time because "it's just a toy".

When you call tru, your call is sent to the boys department. Asking for a specific figure or series is the way to go. Asking by item number at toys is a bad idea because all the basics fall under one item number.

It all depends on the person, You can have someone that's either lazy or very busy and will just say they don't have it or you can get a person that will actually walk over and check. Its very hit or miss. sorry man :/

I've called Walmart & occasionally they're helpful. But sometimes it takes awhile for them to check.

Wal Mart is usually never helpful to me, when I call, they answer, and I ask for the Toy Department and then almost never get connected and usually just hang up 5-10 minutes later. TRU is usually helpful cause its easier for them to find it I think, but Walmart is dreadful.

I don't even bother. I called a couple times and it took forever for them to look or to even get someone. I would just go to the store.

I don't call the stores anymore.
When Legends 3 first came out i called TRU and asked if they had Vader. The lady said yes they had 3 of them.I asked her if she could hold one back and she said yes.I get to the TRU which is 30 mins away and the lady had no idea what i was talking about.I went back to the figure section and there were no Legends 3.

Anybody that I ever called, pretty much seemed like they just B.S. me and say no, cause it's easy. One time I called fye in my local mall to ask if they have a certain tv series NEW. The guy goes "let me check "comes back and says" yeah we have it". So I reitterate NEW, he says yes. I come in, guess what, they only have it used. So I was mad pissed he lied

It depends on the employees. when I call TRU I ask for the same guy everytime. And while the Basics & Elite use the same SKU at TRU he can still break them into the various Series I am calling about. And he can tell me if the warehouse/distribution center has received them yet. And if they have he can then also tell me whether the store has received them yet and more often than not what truck they are scheduled to be on. WalMart & Target I don't bother calling, but at Target I'll ask the same employee to pull figures from the back if the scanner shows more in the stockroom.
