Hey everyone, I wasn't too sure where I should post this so I just assumed here. So I'm working on getting booked for a few dates and shows this year including my own show I'm trying to get together. One thing that really bugs me is when I was getting trained, people said that I didn't have "the right look" they told me I'm too tiny to make it big anywhere... Now I'm 5'11" and about 160 lbs. Yes, I am small... but I think wrestling is about more than just who's the bigger guy. Here's one of my current Promo pictures for my show poster that I'm planning: My ring name is Alex Shepherd.. So tell me.. Do I not have "the look" of a pro wrestler?

Yes i would say you do but think about losing the shorts sometime later during your career...yes they may look cool but tights would be better suited for you just to make yourself look more professional in my opinion.

Thanks for the input. I think eventually I'll switch over to tights, but I still haven't had a match in the shorts yet, so I'll see how that goes.

Yes, you do.
Because look at all the other guys who have had success who were deemed too small, you'll do fine as long as you can wrestle.

The two Pieces of advice I would give is, hit the gym. Ive gone up about 30 pounds since my debut five years ago and your never big enough muscle wise for pro wrestling. Its hard work though.
#2. You really have to make that balance on to how the fans would react to your gear and to how it fits you as a personality. Its tough, but find you who you want to be and what the fans love/hate. I could picture you with something like super crazys gear or a Londrick attire.

I think you have just as good of a shot as the next guy.
Don't take this the wrong way, but I think getting into weights will only benefit you. I'm not saying you have to get as big as Lex Luger, but you defintely have to have some kind of muscle to make it IMO.

I'd lose the shirt and shorts and go with some tights of some sort.

Brutal honesty time. The short answer is "No".
You look like a backyard wrestler more than a pro wrestler. Now, can this be changed? Absolutely! Wrestling is 100% not about size, but you do have to look athletic. I couldn't get bookings back when I was trying because I was described as having the color and shape of a bag of milk. You've gotta hit the gym really hard. More than the gym, you need to eat. If you weigh 160, you need to be consuming atleast 320 grams of protein per day. That's 53 grams, 6 times a day. So you need a good protein powder.
As everyone else pointed out, the shorts aren't what's "hot" in wrestling any longer. That being said, the only gear I ever had was a singlet which I no longer have and a pair of shorts. So if I ever get my fat ass back into shape and try to get bookings again, shorts it is! Honestly, lose the shirt, it just makes it look like you're trying to hide your body.
Sorry if this is hard to swallow, but from my experience, everyone in the wrestling business is brutally honest. Gotta be able to take it.
I just noticed that we have the exact same kick pads.

Just to be harsh, you definitely look like a local indy star, and until you get past that and get some good microphone/in-ring skills, its doubtful you will get far. Not saying you don't have them, but you need them or else its only a TINY chance of you advancing.

If Grizzly Redwood, Jon Gresham and Collin Delaney/Olsen can do it, you can too!

Thanks for all the responses.
I've been hitting up the gym for a little now. But another problem I have is I'm actually a Type I diabetic. So that is my downfall as far as a diet goes to get bigger.

Overall, I think a major problem is that you look a bit generic. Nothing really to do with size, but more so the gear. Do something that makes you stand out, but still fits your character.
Examples: 1. Paul London began billing himself as "The intrepid Traveler", and then he began to wear NASA space suits to the ring.
2. Sinn Bhodi comes out with stuffed animals hanging off his tights with a bloody apron because he is playing the part of a crazy carny.
Just work on developing your character and then try to tweak your gear to match it. Then once you feel comfortable with your character and overall ability, to me, that's what "the look" is.
Really, it is hard to tell what your character is just from the promo pic, and that would help me a great deal in giving you some more feedback. Do you have any promos on the web?

Maybe mix up the colors of your attire, I'd get different colored kickpads if I was you to give it some variety.

When I first saw your pic I thought you looked like a character from the Twilight saga...
Potential gimmick?

Well I don't have any promos up yet. I'm going for the "I may be small but I could out-wrestle you so don't underestimate me" gimmick haha I just wanna work on getting more bookings then developing my character seeing how the crowd reacts to me. When I first saw your pic I thought you looked like a character from the Twilight saga... Potential gimmick? Hmm... That sounds like it would be over with 13 year old girls... but ehhh... I would hate myself.

I'm interested in hearing how you're going to put this show together. Who do you think you might have on it?

I'm interested in hearing how you're going to put this show together. Who do you think you might have on it? I'm working on having it at a Penn State campus located in Scranton, PA. It is gonna benefit THON. We're trying to have local talent, as well as Vin Gerard, Stigma, Player Uno, Pinkie Sanchez, The Osirian Portal, Glaad Badd, and others.

Lose the shirt while wrestling. Maybe try to gain some muscle mass, you look fine.

Agreed. Be unique. Shirt is fine for entrance, but in-ring. No.
