Now being a long time collector I'm STILL adjusting to Mattel's pricing.. Jakk's figs were in range here from about 6-12 dollars. (RA and Classic)
A basic Mattel here costs like 10 friggin bucks at Walmart. Elites 15...
Defining Moments 22+ dollars... What the hell gives?! I'm not complaining, so much as I am just noticing more and more posts on items found that have been opened in the store, figures swapped. Etc. I own everything I want so far of Mattel, proudly paid for it too.. But not everyone can afford these outrageous prices. Elites are understandable by why so much for basic figures, which LACK HIGHLY in articulation and playability at tines?
Thoughts?
Edit: I know items were always stolen.. Jakk's or by. But with these high prices I can definitely see a raise in theft of figures, etc

People used to moan at Jakks leaving detail off. Now Mattel gives near perfect details, even in the basic line......people complain about pricing. $10 ain't much for a Basic. Try £10 in the UK for that same figure. We pay even more than USA and TBH I think the price isn't too outrageous. Quality comes at a higher price.
I think thieves have no excuse. Higher price or not....you work, you pay for things. Thieves and repackers cost the honest buyrr

Basics are $15 and elites are $30 in Australia, we have thieves. How do you think people outside the U.S Feel?

Oh, you think that's bad. You haven't been to Switzerland, where basics cost 35 Francs, 2 packs cost 47 Francs, and the cheapest McDonalds meal is 10 Francs. I would have loved to have lived there, but its too expensive. Way off topic, but if you think you have it bad, you have to be a millionaire to collect WWE in Switzerland.

First, don't steal action figures, it's not worth it. Music and movies are fine. The second I read the topic's subject, I knew there would be posters from outside the U.S. complaining about their high prices. In Japan I pay 811.15 Yen. Boo Hoo. In India I pay 446.95 Rupees. Boo Hoo. In Guatemala I pay 75.82 Quetzal. Boo Hoo.

I am guessing that these are for Basics, because those all are around 10 American dollars, whereas a franc is worth slightly over a dollar, making the basics 40 American dollars apiece!!!!

As well as a height scale. But my whole thing is, it seems that there are more topics now about empty packaging in stores and whatnot than ever and I figured it could be related directly to the cost. I was bored and felt like starting a post to read some opinions I guess lol. And also ask, what's the most people have paid for a single figure in their respective homeladnds

Yeah, I pulled out my trusty currency converter. Although that was a joke post, I wonder how much I really pay on average for each figure when I factor in time, gas, wear and tear on the car, shipping, internet store mark up, etc. I have to go on toy hunts because not much is available in my town.

I dont mind paying $10 for a Basic, $15 for an Elite/Legend, $17 for a 2 pack
however most retail stores are just increasing costs to make extra profit so now Basics are going to be almost $13 which is absolutely ridiculous. Everything else is going up as well. I doubt it has to do with a few switches that we see from time to time...it hurts, but not enough to affect the entire market.
Retailers are the epitomy of greed behind bankers, and they know that the best way to make a bigger profit is to increase prices to a ridiculous amount...then decrease back to higher than it originally was so you think it's a better deal.

Am I the only one that doesn't see that big of a difference? Jakks figures toward the end of their WWE run weren't exactly dirt cheap either.

CSDA's were under 15 here in canada and they didnt come with good accessories or detail, scale, height diff's etc.... in fact most were the same recycled bodies... Legends are 20 here, 2 packs are 40 and dms are 30 ... and sometimes i cant buy all the figs i want because of price but i dont care. The Price is Worth all the detail. So some bad apples steal figures.... the store who takes the jakks figures back loses out , they should just smarten up

Hey bro, come on over to Singapore and the basics in departmental stores will ring you Sing$30 (US$23) and elites Sing$44.90 (US$34) a piece.. The list goes on and to top it off, there are only 2 figures per elite series and EG & DM figures are unheard of in such stores

First, don't steal action figures, it's not worth it. Music and movies are fine. This comment is seriously all sorts of win. ;D As for the main point. I'm over the price point issue. My new problem is quality control as it has seriously declined in the most recent sets. This is a big problem when you find guys that are one per case. Additionally, the prices here are more expensive across the board now. $9.99 is great, except when you go to TRU you are paying $13-$14 a shot for a Basic. To the international buyers, you are buying an import so you are going to pay more money. With taxes and duties, I am honestly shocked that some of those price points are so comparable to the US in certain international markets. As someone who deals in international retail on a daily basis, I can tell you there are tons of costs sending products across borders that are not incurred when dealing domestically. I have no problem paying for a great figure, but when the paint job is screwed up or the ankles are too loose for the thing to stand up I draw the line. If I have to pay an extra dollar so that I know for certain I won't have to go out and buy the same figure twice because the first one was poop then so be it. The figures being swapped out and being stolen falls on the stores. You have to be a complete moron to take back some of the jakks swaps I have seen. That will stop when store managers are made aware and then force the issue on their employees. Additionally, that cost should fall on the store, who accounts for stealing. Mattel is the distributor to Target, once it's on the shelf it's paid for so Mattel has their money. Walmart is sort of a different story but in general, Mattel shouldn't really take a hit when items are stolen from the retail stores.

I just paid 11.99 for Basic figures at TRU for B10 Dolph & HHH. But they figures are amazing and to me it's worth the extra few bucks to get these figures instead of paying 10 bucks for a Jakks figure.
As far as theft, I dont see much of it around my parts-every now and then a belt will be missing, or a figure will be taken from a packgae but it's far from a problem around here. I think the figures are too big & bulk to be stolen. And I think people believe that it's not worth anything if it's not in the package, so why steal in the first place.

My point is that from Jakk's it went from being a MAJOR kids target to Mattel being Mainly Collectors. Because kids who can't work can't buy. And parents will think the prices are crazy so they will buy less. Unless they're financially stable or something.

I find it kinda funny, how you lucky americans complain about your "high prices". 22$ for a DM. In Germany you pay 45€ which is like 50$ for a Defining Moments Fig. Elite are like 30$ and Basics are 22 $

You also have to take one other thing into consideration:
Everything in general is more expensive anyways. Its hard to compare WWE figures in price by Jakks and Mattel when everything has seen a price increase of some sort. $15 for a highly detailed figure with accessories is not bad at all I'd say.
