It's like I said before, I'd rather have a great actor who isn't big enough that someone who is big enough but can't act... And how many 6'8" 300 lbs guys do you know who are great as Hardy? Batman and Robin got his look right (except when he became green, of course) and that was awful.
Just watch Bronson and you'll see how physically imposing he can be. And besides, if they're going all out with the Venom serum story, they can easily use computers for the post transformation Bane.
Personally, i like the change, it means they'll be showing more of Bane's intellect, which you almost never see. Nothing outside the comics has done it right, and the comics barely have since his first books.
As for the ask, I like the change. It looks close enough to be recognizable, but shows enough of his face so he can be expressive.
Will everything be perfect? No. But I've loved every movie Nolan has made up to this point and have no reason to doubt his vision. I can't wait to see more from this film.

This, his vision of Batman has been near perfect in my opinion, I'm not about to give up on him now. I have the utmost faith that this film will rival Dark Knight, perhaps even surpass it. He topped Begins with Dark Knight, I think he could do it again.

You guys do realize Micheal Keaton played Batman right? He didn't look the part either and got a lot of negative feedback when he was cast; just like Hardy is now, but he turned out pretty good. At least give Hardy props for looking the part, he's actually pretty decked out in that teaser pic. So far he looks believable and capable of "breaking the bat". Let's just wait on this whole "height issue" until we either see more pics, or we see him in action in the film. it's a little different. looking at the physical side - keaton wasn't that much shorter than the batman character, whereas Hardy is way shorter than the bane character. plus the height is such an important part of the bane character. bane is supposed to be BOTH a mental AND physical giant. and looking at the costume side - keaton's mask looked like a batman mask in design and essence. hardy's mask is nowhere close to bane's mask, neither in design or in essence. but the skepticism towards keaton was mainly regarding his performance anyway. something which could not be accurately judged before viewing the final film. the skepticism towards hardy (at least in my view) is not regarding his performance. it's regarding his height and mask design. something which can be accurately judged before viewing the final film because it isn't going to change. As far as I'm concerned the only thing I feel that will make Hardy work as an acceptable depiction of Bane, is if they CGI Hardy's head onto a 6'8" bodybuilders body for the fight-scenes and shots that show bane's body on Venom. Hardy can still do all the talking/headshots/pre-serum scenes. I would be more than happy with that. The performance is hugely important and I don't doubt Hardy can deliver that. I think I could even overlook my dislike for the mask if Bane was still physically huge.

I'm sold..
Everyone else just sit back and relax.. Doubting Nolan or questioning what he does has become pointless.. Time and time again.. He has delivered.

I totally trusted him, and then came 3... seriously what is it with the 3rd films in superhero movies... why do they always seem to mess them up... i mean there's years and years of source material and tried-and-tested stories to work from. and not only do they mess them up by changing the formulas, but they keep doing reboots and spinoffs and such with so many superhero properties. i don't get why they can't just stick with a winning formula and keep churning them out, all following on from each other and existing in the same continuity...

I agree with you on the Sam Raimi statement.. But this is CHRISTOPHER NOLAN.. After Inception I would trust him with my life.. Only a cinematic genius could do what he has done so far.. Two things can happen.. The Dark Knight was larger than life and people will be let down because of how good it was.. Or... The Dark Knight Rises equally sums up with the first 2 films and Nolan finishes on top.. I'm sold on Bane.. It's gritty.. It's realistic.. And I'm still telling myself JGL is going to heel turn in the story and actually be the son of Falcone.. The only thing I'm really worried about is how they do Catwoman, and how they truly cover up the Harvey Dent thing.. Which I honestly think is a big part of how TDK ended and shouldn't be THAT easily forgotten.. That's just me though.

But in response to the fact that no physically imposing white male exists in the world we could just have Michael Clarke Duncan as bane.

Why Bane's size is an issue doesn't quite click with me. I mean, we've got ways to create a false perspective, and CG. Hell, did anyone actually think Elijah Wood was 3 feet tall in the Lord of the Rings movies? I doubt it, but no one complained about it once they saw how good it looked. Why can't Tom Hardy be made to look a bit more physically imposing?
See, suspension of disbelief is crucial. No one seems to care that Christian Bale cannot really fight crime the way Batman does, nor did Heath Ledger really murder a large amount of people the way Joker does. But they're actors playing parts. Why can't Tom Hardy play the part of a "big guy" when we're not even sure if they're
A) going to make him taller in the special effects? Or
B) even going in that direction with Bane to begin with?
See, Bane's character essence to me is that he's a strategic genius with a background as a merciless fighter. The fact that he's big doesn't so much matter, since "big" doesn't equal "intimidating" (look no further than Bane from "Batman & Robin" for proof). But he IS supposed to be a world-class ass-kicker. I think that's what we'll be getting.
Side note - Spider-Man 3 sucked because of Sony forcing Raimi to make a movie he didn't want to make, not because of Raimi having a bad movie from the start. Sony wanted Venom (because, for some reason, they thought Venom would make money) and Raimi didn't. So, when they threatened him, Raimi put Venom in the movie, but basically sabotaged the character as a "F*ck You" to the studio. That's how I've understood it, anyway.
Would we have really been upset with a story about Spider-Man and Sandman? Especially given that Thomas Haden Church gave the best performance in that whole film?
Again, trust Nolan. I'm enough of a Batman fan to accept that there WILL be different versions of all the mythos. That's what it MEANS to be a comic book fan; as soon as a different writer gets ahold of the material, he's going to take liberties with it. If the worst thing Nolan does is take Bane from a tall, muscular drug addict strategist to an average-height, muscular drug addict strategist, then we have absolutely nothing to worry about.

Thank you for bringing up Sony in the whole Spiderman 3 argument. I hate when people act like at one point, it wasn't going to be a great movie.

As for the size issue, it's not an issue. It has nothing to do with a Batman movie, but in every movie Danny Trejo is in, he's made out to be a big bad ass. I've met the dude in person and he's seriously like 5'3. So if they want this dude who is playing Bane to look big, he'll look big. I'm just personally not that into the character.

Thank you for bringing up Sony in the whole Spiderman 3 argument. I hate when people act like at one point, it wasn't going to be a great movie. Yup! Sony really was to blame for Spiderman 3. Raimi said he did not like the Venom character, but Sony wanted to appease fanboys and have him in the movie. Obviously Raimi could've tried harder, but he's the guy that always wants his vision on the screen (as should any good filmmaker). Its a big reason why Spiderman 4 never happened and we're getting a reboot instead.
