This is actually one of the reason why I have a bitter taste in my mouth about Vince. If the ScrewJob never happened both Bulldog and Owen wouldn't of died( because Bulldog would of never of gone to WCW and broken his back, plus Bret would of convinced Vince and Owen not to do it at all) It would of been a great feud In my opinion. Also I think they faced once or twice, they faced each other at Breakdown or something like that and they were gonna have a match before but Owen retired because of what he done to Dan Severn. Does any body know or even have the match but Edge said on RAW is OWEN that him and Christian faced Owen and Jarrett. I would love to see that match. It's absolutely idiotic to place the blame on Vince. Even if he did want Owen to do it, he didn't want Owen to die and he didn't trigger the quick release. Also, Bulldog had substance abuse problems for years prior to the Screwjob. It would have caught up with him eventually. And Owen still could have died. Bret says he would have prevented it, but what else is he meant to say? That he wouldn't? I don't mean he wanted Owen to die, also Owen didn't do it on propose he was getting ready to hold on but he touched the trigger by mistake. Bulldog died of an overdose, if he didn't get the back injury he wouldn't of been using the steroids and all the other things more frequently. What do you mean Owen would of still died? If someone was scared of heights and was forced to do something which involves heights because it's he/she's job. Wouldn't you convince the person who is forcing the person to do something they are afraid of because you know something may go wrong!?

I said Owen still could have died, not definitely would have. Bret will always go on record as saying he'd change Owen's mind because it's the obvious thing to say. He loved his brother and wanted to save him, so what else is he going to say? "I wouldn't change it if I could".. As for Bulldog, he had been abusing steroids, alcohol and other drugs since the 80's. It would have caught up with him eventually, no doubt. The Screwjob caused neither death and was not a catalyst in either case.

And you're right, he could of still died though, even if that didn't happen.

I think blaming Vince in anyway is really a cop out. Sure he got Owen to do the stunt but like mentioned its not like he sat in the back rubbing his hands together laughing 'Now I got that lil nugget".
Its also unfair to blame Vince for Bret leaving. Vince told him he couldnt pay him the big money. Bret didnt say "Well Ill take a cut in pay to stay around and be loyal", he took the big money in WCW.

I recall it was one of those two cases, where Vince made it pretty clear that Bret's time was up.

There's so much emotion in wrestling. Man, just thinking about all this gives me goosebumps and how the Montreal Screwjob CHANGED THE FACE of the wrestling business. If that little incident didn't happen... So many things would be different right now. There probably wouldn't be no Rock or Austin. Owen and Bulldog would still be alive. That's crazy how 1 thing was a domino effect for tragic things to come.

I saw a video of the spanish version once where they had the mic rolling while playing a video clip and you could hear Owen hit the ring and everyone gasping. Idk if it's still on youtube but it was pretty bad.

I was watching that PPV live when it happened. It was pretty intense. I could imagine actually being in the building.

If Bret stayed I honestly don't think Owen would have done the Blue Blazer gimmick. Nor the Black Hart gimmick but I think they would of some how given him the strap.

I remember watching the rest of that PPV in silence at my friends uncles house. Owen was currently my favorite wrestler as I was always a big Hart mark. I didn't go to school the next day because I was still so upset. I know it sounds funny but I even had a dream about Owen after he died...he came up to me and gave me a hug and told me "its alright" and then left.

But because I'm 14 I don't really know to much about Owen because you don't really get the same of a wrestler compared to watching them live on tv or at a show.

I know history in wrestling is always being made day by day, but nothing is as big as what happened that night. And the other thing is, we still don't know the full story to it know matter how many dvd's are made....

He said it was Russo idea to come up with the blue blazer gimmick because Owen done it before and he wanted him to do it again, Here the video of him saying i dont know if anyone saw it but for those who didnt here you go

Vince did that stunt and it worked just fine for him.
I really don't see how people can say Bulldog would still be alive if the Screwjob didn't happen. The man was doing drugs for many years before the incident in WCW.
It's like saying if the WWF just kept Liz employed, it would have kept her alive because she wouldn't have gotten involved with Luger in WCW.

They said they did the Blue Blazer gimmick just to copy Sting...

I think I'm one of the few members of this board that was there that night, and I know I'm the only member here that had floor seats no less. I hate to be "that guy", but I can still see him falling. It doesn't haunt me, but it's all an image I'll never forget. From the fall, to him moving, to the questions, to the news coverage. I'll never forget him being rushed back stage, and slowly putting one thumb up, and the entire arena started clapping. Still gives me chills. Man, that must of just been crazy to see. I can only imagine.

I was about 9 at the time and had ordered it... When JR made that announcement via commentary I remember crying my eyes out as it was the first time I'd experienced someone just flat out die that fast. It was a terrible night. I wrote a story on it for school and couldn't even read it alloud for the class.
