I still want to see Rock vs. Cena at WM 28. The storyline has been amazing so far and I want to see it play out. Now as for Punk vs. Austin. WM 29 is the place for that match. 10 years removed from Austin's last match. It would be a huge deal.

Rock and Cena has been a match that people have been talking for years now. I would say that match would be bigger--not sure if it would necessarily be the better match though. We'll have to wait and see.

Austin is bigger than Rock and Cena and sold more merchandise combined between them, But Rock/Cena are both bigger than Punk. Rock is a huge moviestar and household name, as is Cena. Punk/Austin are relatively unknown outside of the wrestling industry. You sir, are wrong. I was talking Wrestling Wise but since you mentioned outside of the wrestling world Austin IS actually known, Him, Rock, Cena, Hogan and a few other wrestlers are known outside of the WWE but those four guys are the main guys that are known by the media outside of wrestling. If there were was a poll asking people who never watch wrestling do you know or have you at least heard of Hogan/Rock/Austin/Cena they would either say they know them or have heard of them somewhere. If the poll said "Dwayne Johnson" people would say "Yeah hes some actor" but when you add "Rock" to it the public would respond to a yes, Bottom line is Rock isn't known that much as his real name only when hes being called "The Rock". Sure hes been in some Disney Movies, Fast5 and a lot of other awful movies but Austin was the name and face of the Attitude Era and the bigger star between the two, Got bigger crowd reactions and sold more merchandise, Even Vince has said Austin is the bigger and greater guy between the two. Back to these matches, Rock/Cena is sadly bigger while Austin/Punk is simply the better/greater/more anticipated match.

Rock/Cena should main event and it makes sense since it's in Miami and Cena is the face of the company. "Smarks" are very obsessed with getting Austin/Punk because Punk is their golden boy and they don't want him to be overlooked. Rock/Cena are bigger stars. Vince is biased for Austin because Austin/Vince was a huge money making feud before Rock got big.Of course he puts Austin over Rock. It's a myth that Austin got bigger reactions than The Rock.In 1999 when Rock turned face he was just as over as Austin. In 1999 sometimes Austin would get a louder entrance pop and then Rock would get HUGE "Rocky" chants during his matches and had crowds going crazy during his promos. People think Austin was more over because he was popular 1st and Austin was more protected. When Austin/Rock tagged vs New Age Outlaws in late 1999 for example Rock got pinned. In 1999 when Rock was super over he had feuds with guys like Billy Gunn,British Bulldog, mini feud with Al Snow, etc but he still was as over as Austin.

None of what you said still changes the fact that Austin has always out-sold The Rock in merchandise. A wrestler's popularity cannot be simply determined by the pops they recieve. Is it a good indication? Yes. But you have to look at merchadise, ratings for there segment of the show, and PPV buy rates when said star headlines the show. Rock and Cena would have more star power than Austin/Punk. I feel though that Austin/Punk would make for a better feud and a much better match.

Punk vs Austin a big match? YES. A dream match?IMO no. Truth is Austin just like Rock will need to the put the young guy over at wm. Why have Austin come out of retirement to loose again. Frankly im satisfied with Austin choosing Rock to be the guy who retired him. Plus do any of you really want to see stone cold in a pg universe???!! I bet Austin himself doesn't even want that. Look, have Punk eliminate HHH to win that special Royal Rumble next year where the winner wrestles Taker at wm and have Punk go over Taker. That would do much more for him than going over a PG Austin at WM imo. Just sayin...

It certainly wouldn't effect there wrestling either. Is he outselling The Rock these days? Truthfully, I wouldn't know. It would be interesting to see which one sells more these days. I do know Austin's DVD outsold Rock's and they both came out within a close time frame of each other.

Personal opinions aside.. Rock is bigger than Austin Cena is bigger than Punk Is this seriously even a topic? Personal opinions aside? This topic distinctly asks for personal opinion on the question. Everybody knows that Rock vs. Cena will sell WrestleMania and that even if Punk vs Austin is made, Rock vs Cena will still headline. I was just wondering WF's personal opinion on what match they would like to see more and which match they would use to close the show if they booked it. AND I think if the majority of the core audience, the WRESTLING fans want Punk vs Austin as a main event, Punk vs. Austin should main event. They can still have Rock vs. Cena and have it co-main event, but how about Punk vs. Austin goes on last, i mean the casuals still get to see Cena vs Rock, they can turn the damn ppv off after that match if they want. Why not close shows with matches the core audience wants to see. Thats why its not cool to like wrestling anymore.

Wouldn't affect the feud?? Dude a pg Austin vs a straight edge Punk would not be what this feud needs. How could it rise to its full potential if Austin cant be that foul mouth S.O.B from the back in the days. Your right Austin was on RAW a few times during this PG era. But he was botching a few lines and just didn't seem like himself out there. Okay ill admit, i am being biased because i don't want to see Austin and Rock both loose at wm 28. Austin going over Punk is bad for business and Rock going over Cena as much as i hate cena, it would be bad for the business. Older guys cant be returning to beat the young guys.

In the wrestling world, Austin is bigger than Rock. its about money not pops all the time. Hogan, Austin, then Rock. Cena hasn't sold more merchandise than Rock though but im sure he's getting close and if that happens ,we Riot lol.

As much as I love The Rock, I think I'd be more interested in seeing CM Punk vs. Stone Cold main event Wrestlemania 28.

If someone prefers Rock/Cena that makes them less of a wrestling fan?

IMO:
Rock > SCSA
Punk > Cena
But I like Rock > Punk so I voted Rock/Cena.

If someone prefers Rock/Cena that makes them less of a wrestling fan? No not at all, don't get me wrong I'm glad to see Rock vs. Cena at WrestleMania, I'm looking forward to it. I think more die-hard fans would rather see Austin vs. Punk. If your a die-hard fan who wants Cena vs. Rock more, that's fine i can see that. But i think the majority of die hard fans would rather have Punk vs. Austin is my point. Your not less of a fan if you would rather see Rock vs. Cena at all that's not what i meant. And also, the event being in Miami has no bearing on the topic I'm just asking personally what match you'd rather see main event WrestleMania. I'm not asking which match will sell more tickets or anything, just what would you rather see if your going to slap down $60 bucks for the event. I'm not asking if your Vince Mcmahon what would you do, because the answer is Cena vs Rock. I get that. But what would you rather see.

I don't think the Austin/Punk match would be any good at all. Maybe 10 years ago, but Austin is getting old. I'm not quite sure he could compete in a full match without it having botches. Case in point: Ricky Steamboat. The man hadn't wrestled in nearly 15 years and he came back and hadn't missed a step. He didn't have a broken neck did he?
I also thought there was people on here complaining about Steamboat being terrible when he returned.

He was never a great wrestler, he was all punches and kicks. Punk could carry that match to make it a good enough wrestling match, but Austin never was technical or mat savvy, he could totally work the style of match he always worked. Hell he's probably been more physical in his movies than he would have to be to work this one time match.
