I think retailers don't want you rifling through the freight because they pay people to do it and i'm sure there are insurance reasons too. I'm in favor of you getting what you want though, it's just a bitch when we get 6 cases of something and some bastard "cherry picks" all the scarce ones. Even though it's all the same sales in the end, it's not fair for other collectors. I stock them all the time, it's a bummer when you see multiples of a peg warmer, or when a figure isn't in the case because it's a chase figure like the Hart Dynasty. Opening a box of figures in a store aisle is a scalper's fantasy.

I always find myself doing this. It's the only way you can really get things done quickly and correctly.
At least with Target, if you are lucky enough to find a competent, cooperative, customer oriented person to help you can hit the DCPI on the scanner before asking them to pull it.
I'm saying this is typical of all retail employees, as I have found many great people throughout my travels that have been helpful, but most of the time I fend for myself.

all the time, back when stores around here actually had anything i wanted...
i never bothered asking, just pulled out my pocket knife and opened the box. they're on the shop floor so they're obviously just waiting to be put out. i really don't see any reason why it would be wrong to do so.

I continue to be shocked by how nice and helpful the Target employees are at my nearby stores. I try not to abuse the DPCI. Usually I'll wait it out until the toys reach the shelves but sometimes I get the "I Need it Now" feeling .

I would when I was younger. I remember finding a box of WCW figures. I don't remember the name.of the set but it was the ones with Sid Vicious and he came with part of the stage that bent in half. I remember being excited because that figure was awesome back then lol

Whenever I see one, I do. Wal Mart is terrible about leaving boxes out for days and not stocking them so yeah.

Maybe its part of the job description After working at walmart for 5 years, its mainly the managers that get pissy when you ask them something. A lot of the regular workers at the one I worked at were nice and always helpful where as department managers were bungholes.

Was at a wm once with the wife & it was right before Xmas, shelves were empty & they had tons of pallets of toys in the garden center so I walked back there & opened some boxes. My wife got so embarrassed. I just figured they didn't fill the shelves, so I'd take matters into my own hands

Yeah, I actually did this a lot when I still hunted figs in stores. Our Wal-Marts would stock at night and I would hit them up about 2am. I knew the stockers there, so they didn't mind me pallet diving to get DCUC and Star Wars.
I stopped going to stores for figs when my wife and I started our comic store and got things wholesale straight from the source but I do miss those days... or nights... sometimes.

I do it at WalMart. Just take my key and break the tape and open the boxes. I don't even bother to try and look for an employee anymore. Those f*ckers are outside smoking cigarettes. You read my mind. Walmarts in NC and VA must be exactly the same.

Although I have opened boxes before , I have never opened any boxes without asking an employee first and probably never will. I have had two instances where I thought about it though One time when DC Universe series 10 was hitting Wal-mart stores, and store I went to said they were getting some that night. I waited at the store until they brought the pallets out, and the guy who brought the pallet out left a pallet that had a box of DC Universe on it. Instead of opening the box myself, I waited for the guy to bring another pallet out, and asked him when he was planning on stocking it. He said once they get most of the pallets out they start stocking. The guy then takes a few steps, turns back and ask what I wanted. I pointed out the box, and he then grabbed it from the pallet and opened it and gave it to me I also worked at TRU until 3 weeks ago. I never stocked, but I was always at the store when they open on truck days to see what they get. Even though there's a lot of boxes still sealed or on Uboats on the floor, I never opened any of them without asking another employee. If I really tried hard and couldn't find any employees after about 10 minutes, I might open a box myself, but usually that is not the case. I always feel better about asking first
