The thing that is wrong with it is that most of these stores are on an automatic ordering system. When they reach a certain amount in stock, the system triggers a re-order of that sku/skn. So hiding figures is not only preventing someone from buying them, but possibly preventing a re-order, meaning many others will not get the figures, as well as a possible reduction of future shipment allotments.

I once checked an aisle and found most of the newer stuff raided, so i was browsing the next couple of figure aisles and noticed a familiar looking package design, behind some boardgames and on the TOPPESTof top sheves was some gems from the-then popular RA JAKKS series i was looking for. Think of it as stumbling on the newest DMoments series or Elite 11 Punks...

You did not do a good thing. You didn't do a bad thing by not hiding the figure from the kid, but it's not your figure until you've paid for it. You had no more right to that Drew than the kid did, and frankly you should be ashamed that the thought entered your head.
And the rationalization used by some is simply mind boggling. 'It's ok if you're going to buy it sometime this month' or 'my friend really wants it' or 'I only have enough money for one right now' are all stupidly selfish reasons to deny someone the figure they've been looking for and should have found if not for the actions of some pathetic little fanboy.
I'd actually almost rather deal with scalpers who are hoarding all the figures than think something I'm looking for is going to be found under the floor boards of a KMart in 5 years. If you want the figure, BUY IT. If you don't leave it on the shelf so someone else's hunt can end.
I've been following and picking and choosing my figures sense BCA. These are retail toys. In the last QA didn't Mattel say they don't make a run of anything less that 5000 units. 5000! There are 4999 other Drews out there. You're not buying it, you have resources like this board that the kid probably doesn't, but you're going to make him keep hunting? You're going to make him 'hunt' at all? What happened to this board?
and get off my lawn.

Y'know, today I found the last TLC Way Barrah at my K-mart, so I hid it between some fans to get it in a few weeks. If I didn't look at this thread before I left, it would probably be gone within a day.

I used to do that all the time when I was young but I hid it in better places than so close to the place you found it.. I just did this a couple days ago when I found Elite 9 Ryder. I bought it that day I just didn't want to carry it around all day in Wal-Mart so I hid it in the bike isle that had random sh*t. When I was ready to check out I moved two big boxes of stuff and took him with me to the checkout register. I don't know if that would have been a good enough place had I needed to come back 5 or so days later but if I needed something that good I would just find a better place.

Nope. The more they sell, the more they stock, the more money Mattel makes, the better the line does, the more figure lines we get. Think about the greater good, or just hide the sh*t wherever it's your conscience.

I do this all the time but not just for myself but also a friend of mine that's into other figures. I even know the best spot to hide things and willing to share with all of you wf'ers. The best spot is behind the apples 2 apples board game. Every store has at very less five and from what I can talk they never sell or even pick up and looked at. But and the other hand I find peoples figures they have tried to hide all the time :-D

I did it with an old RA Khali a few years ago, someone found it. Don't even know why I hid it, lol. Good work for making that kid happy.

No but when when my daughter was younger and I'd see things that were clearly hidden in the Barbie or stuffed animal aisles and it's wasn't something I wanted I put it back on the pegs front & center.

Great job for giving the Drew figure to the kid. Karma given. The only hiding I've ever done, was hiding a figure at the back of the peg they were hanging on behind the rest of them. Anyone actually looking would still find them, but it would keep it from catching the eye of someone that was passing by lol. I've never hid anything behind anything else, but I do check behind things when I go figure hunting. If its something I want, I'll by it. If its something I don't want, depending on my mood, I'll either put it back where its supposed to go or leave it alone. I remember earlier this year right after Randy Savage died, I was looking for a Legends 5 Savage. I had no luck before he passed away, and was having even worse luck after because scalpers buying them all up. We stopped at a WalMart and they had everyone in Legends 5 but Savage. But I did find a Defining Moments Savage hidden behind a ring. Since I was irritated at the scalpers buying up all the Legends 5's I put the DM Savage back where it was supposed to be so a fan that was really looking for it may have had a better chance at finding it. About 2 months later I finally found my Legends Macho Man. I figure karma will reward me with some good finds in the future I always talk about 'action figure karma'. I'll find a figure that I like, but not one that I'm really really looking for, and I'll decide not to get the figure in hopes of finding the other one while we're out. And I'll tell my wife that hopefully I'll find it thanks to good 'action figure karma' lol

Hiding is incredibly immature and obnoxious. Worse than that, its the sort of incredibly self-important behavior one expects to see from privileged jerks who are just used to getting what they want that they rationalize anti-social behavior. No doubt, they have some tortured justification for how they aren't self-important children even as they act like a 6-year old as they actively disrupt a retail environment.
I don't care if you think you'll come back later and buy it. You don't get to "call dibs" in the real world. In the real world, you exchange money for products and if you don't have the money, you don't get the product. If someone else actually has the money, they get it. You're screwing up a store's inventory system and making the jobs of the people working there that much harder by putting your needs above the rest of the world. Not only are you punishing the store by creating this illicit, un-deposited layaway, you are also punishing the person who comes after you who actually has the money to buy what they want.
Especially in this day of internet access to whatever you want, hiding is an especially immature act. I'm not even saying act like an adult. Just act like anyone old enough to go through a store without holding their mother's hand. Hiding figures is just sad. Its pathetic. Its definitely not something to brag about, but that's clearly not stopping people. Sadly, obnoxious people have little difficulty cultivating entitlement from other obnoxious people. Just remember the next time anything bad happens to you, that you deserved it.
