I echo the anti-hiding sentiments above. Leave it for a fellow collector or fan to enjoy. Also, if you end up finding that desired figure at your next TRU, are going to travel back to the other one and un-hide it? I didn't think so. To me, it's no better than buying out every hot figure to scalp them.
Plus, here's some sound fiscal advice: if you can't afford to buy 4 figures in one go, don't go figure shopping. If your finances are so tight that a $60-$80 expenditure is going to break the bank, then save your money. Or accept that you can't have everything you want in life and be happy with the one figure you purchased.

First thing I spot is a Ryder...damn.. Well, I look down and there is Wade Barrett..YES.. I grab him, then spot elite 11 and 9 Miz and get them. I see Rey but pass, dejected because I dont have enough money for these figs and I didnt find punk I start to walk around the store to form a plan. I looked down to see Punk. I grab him and remember Kmart has layaway. So, even if you cant afford all the figs you want and have the option of layaway thats cool too!

When I was much younger and into collecting, I would hide certain figures until I scrapped together enough money to come back and get them. Granted I was like 10 or 11, and when I got back to the store, they were usually gone.
I don't collect figures anymore, but I still look through them if I'm in the store just to see what's out there. I actually have a pretty good knack for finding figures that were hidden in the process...and I usually stick them right back on the pegs. I just think it's kind of sh*tty and unfair to take the good ones and shove them away somewhere for yourself.

Hiding is incredibly immature and obnoxious. Worse than that, its the sort of incredibly self-important behavior one expects to see from privileged jerks who are just used to getting what they want that they rationalize anti-social behavior. No doubt, they have some tortured justification for how they aren't self-important children even as they act like a 6-year old as they actively disrupt a retail environment. I don't care if you think you'll come back later and buy it. You don't get to "call dibs" in the real world. In the real world, you exchange money for products and if you don't have the money, you don't get the product. If someone else actually has the money, they get it. You're screwing up a store's inventory system and making the jobs of the people working there that much harder by putting your needs above the rest of the world. Not only are you punishing the store by creating this illicit, un-deposited layaway, you are also punishing the person who comes after you who actually has the money to buy what they want. Especially in this day of internet access to whatever you want, hiding is an especially immature act. I'm not even saying act like an adult. Just act like anyone old enough to go through a store without holding their mother's hand. Hiding figures is just sad. Its pathetic. Its definitely not something to brag about, but that's clearly not stopping people. Sadly, obnoxious people have little difficulty cultivating entitlement from other obnoxious people. Just remember the next time anything bad happens to you, that you deserved it. Great post

I used to back in the old days of LJN figures and Starting Lineups when I was 12 or so lol, used to take the figs and hide them in entertainment centers with cabinets, until I could convince my mom to buy them all for me, haha this brings back memories. As stated before though, any adult with a job shouldn't be figure shopping if he can't afford it. At the end of the day, there are more important things in life than toys

I did once with a Ted Dibiase figure. I went to TRU on a Friday and they had about 4 of his deluxe figures. I didn't have to get him so I hid 1 be hind some punjabi prison playsets. Sure enough I went back the next day and they didn't have any figures except the one I hid. I also found a Dolph Ziggler hidden behind a bunch of board games at kmart a couple of years ago

I knew where the "stash" was at the TRU near me.
It was on an endcap and the very top shelf that you couldn't see from ground level.
I hid stuff up there on occasion as well.

I've never hidden anything because I'm smart enough to not go to the store if I can't afford to buy anything.
However, I have found things that other people have hidden and I've either bought them because they are what I was looking for, or I put them right back on the pegs so everyone has an equal chance.

When I was younger I would hide figures all the time with the intent on buying them. Now that I am an adult, I have the finacial stability to buy as many figures as I feel like buying, so there is no need to hide them anymore.

I do sometimes but rarely. Like a couple weeks ago Wal-Mart had E9 Ryder & Miz but I didn't have enough money with me so I hid them and went back that night. I won't hide them unless I know I have the money for them.

I remember one time when I was little. My brother and I were at WalMart looking at the figures. Then one of our friends came down the aisle. We were all looking at the Hasbro WWF figures and he hid one of the Demolition 2packs. Then after our friend left the aisle, my brother and I put Demolition back on the peg.
