Hey guys, so to update this:
They gave me a second interview the same day as my first. I got a call this past Friday about a "Job Offer Appointment." Today, was the Job Offer Appointment. I went in and they brought me and the other girl who's being hired to the interview room and we sat down at a table and did some paperwork. Basically agreeing to a drug test, a criminal background screening, etc. Next we went on a computer and read the agreement, our job competencies, and we had to agree that we were capable of it. Finally, it stated how much we'd be paid and we had to sign that we accept the job offer. I did! I got the job pending a drug test. I took the drug test immediately after leaving, we had to drive on our own to a separate location a town over. I knew that a drug test would involve urine but I didn't think to have a drink before hand. So I went in having only one medium iced coffee five hours prior to this. I walked in after being called, she asked if I could produce the sample, I said hell yeah, and couldn't.
So I was told to take about a half hour and drink as much water as I could. Welp, that turned out to be 37 cups of water. Yeah, I know, that's a lot. It did the trick, I went in and got the sample. Now I'm waiting to be called in for orientation (I don't do drugs and I haven't had any alcohol in almost a month).
I would say it was successful. I'm pretty proud, even though my sister (a high school drop out with no job) made fun of me for working at this particular place. Forget that though, a job is a job. Money is money no matter what.

Old:
Ah I haven't been nervous until just a few minutes ago. I'm starting to question and doubt my abilities. It's at a big chain department store, for the cashier position. My interview is at 9:45. I applied for Electronics department originally but they called me re: the cashier.
Does anyone have any advice for the interview? I'm dressing in black slacks, a black button shirt, and dress shoes. I got a haircut and I shaved my beard (I left my soul patch though, ala Springsteen) How much earlier should I arrive? I was planning on being 15 minutes early.
Would it be completely out of line if at the interview, I said to them that though I'm interviewing for the cashier job I'd really like a position in electronics, as I applied for it and I could better benefit Walmart there, but I'd be happy in either position? (longest sentence ever)

I think you're good to go, i'd start off as cashier then when you're all in the clear ask if you could move up. Let yourself get on the good side first, you don't want to spoil anything

No need to be Nervous.I am sure you will do just fine. As a former Wal-Mart employee i would say if you arrived 10-15 mins early you will be fine. I would not ask them about working in the electronics yet. Maybe after you get the job or have work there for a week or so.
I have been on 3 interviews at 2 different Wal-marts. 2 of those times they offered me the job on the spot. Both times i worked at Wal-mart it was seasonal.

I've heard from different people that there's a two interview process, and from another person that it's a 'on the spot' hiring process. I guess I'll wait and see. I agree with you as well, Il'l wait until I have some pull and ask later.

That or how good they feel about you. The Walmart in my town has hired on the spot and as well as done the second interview process as well. I must say though, I've never seen anyone get the second interview and not get the job. Good luck man. Work ain't easy to come by these days.

Thing about Wal-Mart is, even if you do make it in to electronics, you're just a cashier somewhere else with different "downtime" duties. Up front, when you have no line, they're gonna ask you to "red line", that is, stand up front by the main aisle waiting to invite someone into your line. In electronics, you'll be putting away stock and just being visible if you're not ringing someone out. Most electronic items make their way up front anyway. You'll just unlock the cases to get video games out.
Best thing to do at Wal-Mart is work in ICS. Your day goes by faster, and is very structured. It's the closest thing they have to resembling a "real" job.

Just be respectfull, professional, and educated and im sure you'll get the job. Im just wondering how old you are. A beard? but this is the first job? Also in my experience the interview is where you want to ask all the questions you may have. Ask them about the spot you applied for. I would also ask about the pay, and the pay scale. Ask about the benefits, ask about the schedual, ask about anything you might want to know. And if they do offer you a job ask them to give you the offer on paper.

This is my first job interview, but I've worked in web design and animation in the past. That job didn't require an interview because the business was just opening up, I was available, and I delivered. --- I just back from the interview(s). I had two. I arrived fifteen minutes early, they brought me to the back and I met with one person, and then after a series of questions I met with a manager. I was told that they would be checking my references and calling me during the week. I've never heard of this before but they say it's normal. Regardless, I feel good about it.

By all means ask if there is any chance to progress in the job, that shows some ambition that i'm sure they will appreciate. But don't go overboard, try to slip it in towards the end if you sense it's going well. Just be confident and friendly, i'm more than sure you have the abilities to be a cashier!

The register seems to do most of the work, but I'm just nervous regarding credit cards and stuff. I'm sure I'll get it if I get the job. I did mention it briefly but she said as I expected to discuss it later if I get the job.

Credit cards, you just press the card button on screen, they put it in, enter their pin, take their card and the reciept is printed. The only tricky thing we have is store account cards, which are just having them fill out a form and phoning it through to a card company, but i don't know if they will have them where your working!

Did they ask you if you could take the drug test today? They didn't. It was interview one, she asked if the manager could do interview two because she "liked me" and then the manager said that they were going to be calling my references and asked me to confirm the phone numbers. Like I said, it was a really strange process. Nothing like what I've read about online. From what I've seen, over here the cashier has the customer swipe the card, input the pin, and they sign on the digital screen of the swiper. Now that I'm thinking about it, it doesn't sound as hard anymore...gah See you're just over thinking it! Best of luck, I really hope you get it. Thanks man, I appreciate it. I hope I do too >.<

Mine was understaffed pretty much everywhere so they would always be paging people to come up front to help checkout, but also pulling people from the front to help us in the back (Lord have mercy on those poor kids). Just go into it with a good attitude, willing to work hard and you'll be fine.

As someone who has managed businesses, I find the "how early to arrive" thing a grey area. I have always showed up 10 minutes early, but when I would interview people I hated if someone showed up that early cause it cut into my prep time.
