Someone brought this up in another thread so I thought I would make a thread about it here. It was mentioned at Toyfare this year that Mattel plans on releasing a 3 3/4" scale WWE figure line. Again I love discussing figures with fellow collectors and I was wondering what your thought and ideas for this line are. I personally am not comfortable with the idea of Mattel making these because even though they are the masters of their craft at making 6" figures. Their 3 3/4" figures leave a lot to be desired, and Hasbro is still the king in that corner of the market. Now if they plan on following suit with Jakks and making these new smaller scale figures just like their Elites, then I'll be all over them. I also want to take a look at the possibilities that we can get as far as accessories and playsets. Smaller scale can open doors for ESR, but smaller, a decent looking HD Stage, and arena add ons. These would be easier for Mattel to make because smaller items aren't as costly as playsets for 6" figures and whatnot. For now I can only speculate, but most importantly are the figures, and IMHO I think there should be at least 1 to 2 Legends in each series. Your thoughts...

I'm fine with it as long as it doesn't take too much away from the budget for Elites.

I don't want any 3.75 figures, as what will happen, is they'll release those, and then within a year of them, they'll just drop the basic & elite line and only release these smaller figures.

As much as I like 3.75 inch figures. I have to say no on this one. If they do make them, they would contradict the in scale with each other being at 3.75 inches

IMO, I think this idea is twenty years too late. However, I think the G.I. Joe sized wrestling figures would be awesome especially if there are legend incorporated in the line!

I don't think they would scrap the other lines because of this this new scale. If anything most companies have 2 both 3 3/4" scale and 6" scale available. Plus both Mattel and consumers have invested too much into 6" figures. To scrap them would be a bad move.
I also think that they'll stick to scales of each figure being appropriately sized compared to other figures (i.e. Rey being shorter, Big Show being taller, etc..)

Not really, because all companies are making figures this size so it isn't costly to the consumer. Truth be told, I was all over Jakks' Build N' Brawlers (even though the collect and connect things royaly sucked w the exception of the SD HD Stage) and just as the line was getting good and starting to include Classic wrestlers they lost their license to Mattel. I am surprised Jakks' didn't continue the trend TNA like they did with the UFC figures.

I wouldn't change what Mattel has put out so far, but part of me wishes they would have gone solely with 3.75" from the start. I'd probably be more apt to buy them more frequently at half the price (and half the display space).

If they could make them look just like the Basic line but in 3.75 I'd love it...but their track record with the DC license is pertty disappointing at best. DC Infinite Heroes - The DCIH was a line I was really looking forward to, But their first attempt (Body 1) had limited articulation (10 points) and came with oven mits for hands - Body 1 - the POA are -cut neck, bull jointed shoulders, elbow hinges, waist cut, t-crotch, knees then they went with body style 2 If they stopped here I'd have been happy as it had 14 POA consisting of - cut neck, ball-jointed shoulders, elbows (hinge & swivel), forearm cuts, waist, t-crotch hips, Knees (hinged & Swivels) & ankles (hinged & Swivels) Then they went to body style 3 (I didn't like as the legs were too thin) consisting of - cut neck, ball-jointed shoulders, elbows (hinge & swivel), forearm cuts, waist, ball-jointed hips, Knees (hinged & Swivels) & ankles (hinged & Swivels) Then there was the 4" TDK line - sculpts were nice but all they had were 7 POA - cut neck, cut shoulders, t-crotch & knees And lastly the GL 4" line - again great sculpd but only 7 POA -cut neck, ball jointed shoulders, waist cut, t-crotch hips. If they can release a 3 - 4 " scaled figure with the same great details/sculpts with 16 POA (ball-jointed neck, ball jointed shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist cut, t-crotch hips, knees, upper boot cuts & ankles) I'd be all over them, but if they can't deliver that same quality then no I'd pass.

We should thank our lucky stars that we only pay 9.99-11.99 retail for a 6-7" figure whereas I saw the new Avengers (3.75") figures go for 8.87-9.99.

Thanks for showing us those example PJ. I am jealous BTW.
If Jakks was able to make the Build n' Brawlers as alomost exact replicas as their 7" counterparts, I don't see how Mattel couldn't do the same.
BTW $8.99 for the Avengers figures sucks but they do come with those stupid accessories that shoot missles, and whatnot so you have to figure those into costs. Also if your compairing Artuculation levels... $8.99 3 3/4" 20+ articulated figure vs $11.99 6" 10+ articulated figure is rather comparable. If your talking Elite figures, then it would half price for a 3 3/4" in a sense.

I spear-headed a thread about this subject a month or two ago. I gave my ideas in it and I love this idea if all of my ideas come to fruition. You guys can click on my name and the name of the thread is "About the new scale". Too much info to type again here. But go see what I said about it.

^^ Sorry. I didn't realize that there was already a thread for this. It looks like you and I share the same opinion though. Oddly enough I too turn 30 this year.

Mattel's DCIH line was how 3.75" figures SHOULDNT be made. It is bad enough WWE Basic and Elite are being outsold by Jakks UFC. If Mattel's 3.75" WWE line looks anything like DCIH, they will not even compete with Jakks UFC Bring it On or any of Hasbro's 1564135416 3.75" toylines.

While I like the concept of 3 3/4" WWE figures, I'm concerned about the execution. As PJ pointed out, their track record is not good at this scale, and it's not really getting any better (see: TDKR and Young Justice). Price will also be a problem, seeing as most 3 3/4" figures now cost nearly as much as Basics. I'll wait to pass judgement, because I really want these to be great, but I kinda don't see that happening.

@vanhooten Man it doesn't matter if it's my voice or yours, if any of us have good or great ideas we all need to voice our opinions. Whoever or whatever it takes to get the word out there, ya know?

It would be great if they could pick up where the Build n brawl line left off, but I agree they don't need to add all the extra's that don't really work with the line. They should focus on releasing some title belts for the smaller lines and keep working on the quality and articulation.
