I hate Joe Maddon, now every team is going to put on the shift against the Yankees. If that does happen they'll adapt, slowly, but it'll be alright.

Damn. That washed up Andruw Jones hit a rocket of a home run tonight. He's still a shell of his former self. One home run doesn't change that. I'd still rather have Gardner out there.

He is not supposed to be the Andruw Jones of old. That's not his job, that's not what anyone's expectations for him should be, and that's not why the Yankees brought him back. He hits left-handed pitching a hell of a lot better than Brett Gardner. That's it. Once the lefty is out, Gardner was right back out there. Not difficult to understand.

I don't care if Jones can hit more home runs. The fact is, Gardner is a better fielder, he's faster, and can facilitate more runs. Jones is fine coming off the bench, but he shouldn't be starting every game just because a southpaw is on the mound.

Gardner is not a better player AGAINST LEFT HANDED PITCHINGI'm all for Gardner playing in LF and having Jones DH'ing against lefties but Girardi isn't going to do that. Looks like Nunez will get the start at either 3B or SS, A-Rod or Jeter either DHing, and Jones in LF. If Jones keeps crushing lefties, why should Girardi bench him in favor of a player who doesn't? It makes little sense. I understand your reasoning - younger, faster, etc... - but he's not a better hitter against LHP than Jones.

Darren O'Day is a right handed pitcher and Jones hit a HR off him. But it's Jones job to hit lefties. And I forget who the O's pitcher was, but Gardner got an RBI off a left handed pitcher. Girardi sat him today specifically because of a lefty starter.
This is why Joe Girardi's guide to Sudoku math baseball doesn't work 99% of the time. I think it's a better idea to just go with the guys who are hot at the time because like I said, 99% of the time, the guy who have in there on that day specifically because of if the pitcher is righty or lefty isn't going to do whatever it is Joe Girardi thinks that guys job is.
Today, technically Andruw Jones and Brett Gardner drove in runs in situations where normally Girardi would have them out of the ballgame. So really then, what's the point of having binders and binders and binders of math equations and then the complete opposite happens.

The reason Girardi left Jones in against O'Day is because he's one of the crazy side-arm throwers and rightiest get a MUCH BETTER look against those type of pitchers than lefties (as explained by the pimp that is Ken Singleton).
Girardi could be a little much with his moves but I agree with most of them (at least in theory). No problems with Jones against LHP, whether he's the DH or in LF.

Suspending Ozzie for 5 games seems like a ridiculous over reaction to me.

He made a very, very stupid comment in the wrong part of town. Miami is filled with Cubans who despise Castro.

I agree that he was talking out of his ass and it was a horrible comment to make given the town he's in. If he made that same comment in Milwaukee or someplace, it would've blown over. Still, five games for talking out of your ass seems a bit excessive.

Didn't get to watch the game but Moore's stats looked good besides the walks. I'm excited to see him pitch throughout the year.

But if you gave everyone who was an idiot a five game suspension for idiocy, half the league would be suspended all the time.

Somebody just make Lorenzo the manager of the Yankees. Apparently he knows how to manage a baseball team. Jesus ing Christ, it's three games into the season. I'll be laughing my ass off when the Yankees are a game away from the World Series. You wont be laughing when the Yankees are playing the Cardinals in the World Series
