Anyone else getting tired of the same episode format every week? This season has been by far the best of the past three seasons, but every week is Negan collecting from another group or mentally tormenting them. First episode was pure torture for our main group. Second episode we were introduced to the "kingdom" but still had a scene of the Saviors collecting from them. Third episode was again torture on Daryl. Fourth episode was 90 minutes of collecting and torturing from the main group. And next week will again be threats and collecting from the Hilltop. We know all three groups will join up against the Saviors, but this has become tedious every week seeing the same thing over and over. And I dont know how they can get the fans behind Rick again. He was never this beaten down in the comics and this past episode really ruined him IMO.Yep, that's what I said after the season premiere. In the comics, they were smart enough to take Rick to the edge of the cliff but not push him over so that he could believably fight back against Negan. On the TV show they pushed him off the cliff. Rick is broken. Alexandria needs a new leader. I just don't see the Kingdom and Hilltop joining forces with this broken Rick as their inspirational leader. I honestly don't see fans believing in a "badass" Rick again after these past 4 episodes. They've "cut his b**** off" and I agree that it isn't realistic to think that he can lead Alexandria again, let alone bring three groups together against the Saviors. I think the show needs to do a swerve and have Maggie take over as the new main and leader of Alexandria. Heck even kill Rick and use that as the tipping point for Alexandria. Either that or the only way that could be somewhat believable in brining Rick back is for Negan to kill either Coral or Judith (which AMC won't do nor do the writers have the b**** to do). In the end I think it'll be some porley explained reason why Rick has had a change of heart and everyone will meraculously get behind him again and take out Negan. I'm also upset with how they've written Negan since the first episode. He was great in episode 1, basically whittling everyone down mentally and showing that he will kill for anyone that disrespects him. Since then, he's been all talk and no bite. The Negan from the first episode would have either killed or maimed someone after Coral shot his gun off. Instead he just spewed more crap.

I have a hard time thinking they will kill Rick. We're going along on the journey with him.
I agree, the whole 'build up the bad guys so that when the good guys prevail it will mean alot' is a tried-and-tested formula that works, and The Saviors have shown a ton of hand...Negan especially.
I'm used to him talking a lot in the books, and so far it's been pretty spot on. With regards to Rick finding his grapefruits again, that remains to be seen...we clearly saw how unsettled Michonne was by his submission to Negan.

If they follow the comics, you will get half your wish with regards to Maggie.

This thread is dead guys. I can't speak for others, but I can't comment on what I haven't seen yet. Between football and Survivor Series, I put off TWD until one of the later replays tonight. I'm actually looking forward to the episode based off the previews as it looks like a Hilltop centered episode with little to no Negan. JDM is killing it but after the past few weeks I could use a break from Negan.

Pretty good episode tonight but the neutering of Rick continues. The one thing that could have saved him in my eyes was if he was acting defeated for everybody like in the comics and was working closely with just a few people to start planning a counterstrike. But nope, broken Rick continues while Sasha takes on his comic book part of getting Jesus to find the location of Negan's main base. I know I have said that they should veer away from the comics a bit more so it feels like a new story for long time readers, but this is not what I had in mind. Rick needs to be a badass, not a p*ssy.
Interesting twist having Carl and Jesus smuggle themselves on the truck. That is a switch up from the comics that has me interested.

Cool they're veering a little away from the comics but they've continued to neuter him. Sure evolve him to realize that he isn't the best "leader" for the group but he can still be a badass and enforcer for the group. Instead they continue to show that he has no b***s. Going by next weeks preview and last weeks episode, it looks like they're doing the same to Daryl (though we still need to see more of him to confirm this or if he's putting on a show). If they neuter Daryl like they have done to Rick, I think I may be finally done with the show. With as much as Daryl has gone though, I can't believably see him broken by Negan at this point. Hell, I can't believably see Rick regaining his badass reputation again.

I enjoyed the episode, felt it was fairly evenly paced...Xander Berkeley is awesome as Gregory - very faithful to his comic counterpart. It's a hard slog for Steven Ogg (unintentional rhyme there) because his Trevor in GTA V was soooo good - and 'Simon' reminds me of him in more than just passing...nothing wrong with it, just an observation. Jesus kicking walkers had me grinning like a fool. Not bad at all.

I actually think it's pretty awesome, just due to the outlandishness of Trevor - really gives every scene he's in a nice air of tension for me.

This episode is terribly boring I concur. If next week is the mid-season finale, it hopefully delivers.

I like Tara, but man...that nearly put me to sleep.
Another mainly 'all-female characters' episode. Nothing wrong with it at all - I just hope that the impetus behind it wasn't a reaction to anything.
I can't quite remember if Oceanside was in the comics...

Complete waste of an episode. I feel bad for Alanna Masterson, as usually when a character gets a "bottle episode" I find them to be really interesting - this was a very forgettable episode.
Only three notable things came out of it: (SPOILER ALERT): We know that The Saviors killed all the men in the Oceanside group (so Alexandria had better take notes, maybe Rick is right for cooperating)...... Tara now knows of a place that has weapons (but she's keeping it a secret)........ and Heath is missing (I'm actually wondering if he becomes a Saviour & a "turncoat?"). All of this could have been established through a regular episode - it didn't need it's own hour + .....
And speaking of the over-run - I like how the show runs 11 minutes long - and the first five minutes of that are commercials.... TBH, many people probably tuned out anyway thinking that it was over...... but extending the show just to include more commercials felt very cheap.
I don't necessarily mind when they jump around & do full episodes featuring one or two characters. I liked the Carol/Morgan/Kingdom episode..... but this material didn't seem to warrant an entire show. A full "bottle episode" without enough substance, on top of the other "bottle episodes" we already got really slow down the pace of the season.
And I had really enjoyed every episode of season 7 up until this one.

This is going to sound really bad, but I legit forgot those two people even existed until this episode! I think they have a bit too much stuff going on this season. I am sure it will all come together, but I actually feel like this damn show, especially this season could do with two episodes a week!

I really think this show would be better off if they used the Game of Thrones model of showing multiple storylines per week. They've done it in the past too and they've done it well. But having so many bottle episodes in each season really makes everything seem so disconnected. Sometimes bottle episodes work but many times they don't. People would probably be more receptive to stuff like Tara's little side adventure if it was among other stories with characters like Rick, Michonne, Maggie, etc.
