It is just one of those moments that has always stuck with me as a wrestling fan.
I was watching the PPV with my brother. He was 15 and I was about to turn 12. The show was really good; I remember us laughing when Owen gave his interview telling everyone to "drink your milk." It was so corny it was great.
We both knew something was weird when they cut to the crowd. At first, I thought he broke his leg or ankle and could not walk. JR and King did not know themselves what had happened so we really had no clue about the severity of the accident.
After the Corporation/Union match, when JR said "I have the unfortunate responsibility to let everyone know that Owen Hart has died," it was so surreal. Both of us were young, but smart enough to realize through his tone that this was not part of the show. I just remember my brother saying "no way" with a blank look on his face. The show continued and when it finally ended I went back into my room to go to sleep. Back then, I had trouble sleeping and would always pop in an old wrestling tape. That night I picked Summerslam 1997. The tape started mid-way through the Owen/Austin match.
Just watching made me reflect on when I first started watching wrestling. The first big feud I remember was Bret/Owen after they blew up at the Royal Rumble. Even though I never considered Owen one of my favorites, at that moment I realized just how much he was a part of my wrestling life. He was always entertaining even if we usually were rooting for him to get beat.
I cried that night. It was the darkest day in the history of pro wrestling.

I heard about it on a local radio station the next morning. I thought it was a hoax. Then I saw the front page of the Daily News & read the article. It made me numb.

I was 7 and Owen Hart was my favorite WWE wrestler at the time. So yeah I was devastated.

watched live on PPV,back when i used to get every WWf PPV. remember them showing the graphic for the Blue Blazer vs Godfather match, then JR saying " We've got a big problem here" or something like that right before they cut to the video promo for the match. then after the promo JR was on the mic talking about how there was a bad accident, and Owen had fallen while they scanned the crowd. then they showed JR as Lawler came back to the announce table and said " It doesn't look good."
i still remember being more in shock when JR announced later that he had died. didn't know WHAT to think! it was almost surreal. didn't really sink in until the tribute the next night on Raw.
also, don't believe those who say they "saw" his death on TV, or that they showed him fall, then cut the crowd. the fall was NEVER shown on the PPV. it happened while they were starting the promo for the match. happened while they had the graphic up of the BB and godfather side by side hyping the match, then a quick shot of the crowd while JR said something was wrong, then right into the video package. i just say this cause i know of people on the net who've claimed they saw him fall, and hi the turnbuckle, then sit up and fall back down before they cut away. NEVER HAPPENED! they're just writing descriptions of what the people in the crowd said they saw. i watched it live ( and even taped the PPV), and it was never shown on camera.

I was watching with my friends Alan & Jeremy at Alan's house. We knew right away something was wrong. And when JR told the news it broke all of our hearts. So much so that I named my son Owen. No joke.

I remember the PPV well, watching with my brother and some friends. When Owen fell, we couldn't get back into the show as it was a distraction and at the time we didn't know how far he had fallen so we were discussing if he got that hurt that his career was over, little did we know how bad it was. When Jim Ross broke the news, my heart sank, I never expected it to be that bad, that a wrestler, especially Owen Hart would die on a live PPV. Needless to say it was a surreal experience.
Also on a side note, I remember in the days leading up to this PPV there was an online rumor that Shane Douglas was going to debut here helping Owen Hart, playing the Blazer and something along the lines of helping Owen win the IC Title. Did anyone else hear this rumor?

I was watching the PPV, and I think from the moment it happened, until Raw the next day, I was just numb to it. I didn't even know what to think, it was like I wasn't even sure this was actually happened. Then the next night, when they did Raw is Owen, it started to sink it, and when they started airing the interviews, with these guys fighting tears, so they could just get a sentence out, I broke down too. First time I can remember shedding a tear for a loss that had nothing to do with my actual family.

unless someone was under three years old at the time, how can you NOT remember Owen death? I was watching the PPV and when you see them come back from a promo video and it's a weird shot of the crowd, you know something is wrong.
even though it's been so long. you can still get goosebumps.

Without question, when JR had to make the announcement that Owen died, that was one of those moments I'll never forget. you could tell it was one of the hardest things he ever had to do.
