I'm a sucker for a screaming head sculpt. I think it adds so much drama to a figure. Being an out of the box, display only collector, I love the way these kinds of head sculpts look. A few examples are, The Ultimate Warrior, Justin Gabriel, HHH, and Daniel Bryan. Because of what a great job Mattel did with these sculpts, I'm holding out hope for a screaming Ryback! Which do you prefer?

It depends on the wrestler. Guys like warrior need screaming scans.

If you're animating screaming head sculps ruin it.

It also depends on what you use the figures for. If you play with them, like I did when I was a kid, I didn't like the screaming one because I wanted it to look realistic, and it's not like the wrestler would be screaming every second of the match... But if you're just a collector, I'd say the screaming scan is better.

I like something a little closer to neutral most of the time. Always have ever since I was a little kid, didn't like a fig to be stuck on angry all the time lol, same goes for painted on t-shirts and "battle damage". It does work well in some cases though, the L6 Warrior scan is much better than the L4/DM scan, as is the newer Savage scan superior to his old one. Depends very much on the individual, for example a screaming Randy Orton scan wouldn't make much sense.

I love open mouth scans. Most straight faced ones are super dull. I hate how boring the Daniel Bryan up there is.

Can't help hearing Warrior say "AAAAAAAAH! THESE TRUNKS ARE REALLY REALLY HOT!" whenever I see the screaming scan.

It depends on the person. I'd rather have an expression that defines the character - screaming for Warrior, "woo" face for Flair, smiling Mick Foley, smirking Punk, etc.

Depends on the character. Daniel Bryan should be screaming. That serene-looking one lets down all of his figures over the last year, but the newer one looks fantastic and suits his character perfectly. Warrior works screaming, but a snarling one would suit him best. Gabriel, the straight-faced one works best. Punk's Elite 20 smirk looks great on him, better than the bland Elite 16. Ryback's expression should be way more intense than the vacant stare on his figures so far. Instead of having 4587785480954 figures with that same head, The Rock should've had a few that have his big phoney Hollywood smile. It also depends on what you use the figures for. If you play with them, like I did when I was a kid, I didn't like the screaming one because I wanted it to look realistic, and it's not like the wrestler would be screaming every second of the match... Wrestler wouldn't be straight-faced for every second of the match either, in most cases.

They have a straight face more often than screaming. When wrestlers are doing moves, they are almost always grimacing or screaming. Attachment DeletedYour post specifically mentioned "every second of the match" -- there is no expression that would fit every second of a match. The figures can represent an expression that suits the character, and that will be different in each case.

i prefer scans with character. usually the screaming scans look better to me because mattel's neutral scans just look way too bland. they seem to do better with more dynamic expressions in terms of likeness and coolness

I look at my Ryback and Cesaro figures and just sigh. The scans aren't BAD, but holy crap they are boring. The guys just look out of character or something. I really hope that new Cesaro scan is better. On the specific topic of the thread, though, I don't think screaming would work well for him-- I'd much prefer his wicked "I'm about to mess this guy up" grin.

This is why I haven't bought Ryback yet. His current scan looks like he's daydreaming.

i'm usually more a fan of straight-faced scanes. however, in the case of Daniel Bryan or RVD (guys i try to collect all of their figs) it's nice to have a screamer or two in there just to change it up a little

I prefer the screaming ones if done right. Done wrong would be HHH for example, but at the same time I'm sick of the sad face scan
