I don't see how it's big that one person has revealed themselves to have the same sexuality as millions of other people around the world.

Do you seriously think WWE set this up? I don't. No, I'm sure TMZ always hang around the airports asking lower-card wrestlers what they think about gayness in wrestling. If you actually watch the interview, you'll see how contrived and set-up it all is. The camera guy is a worse actor than any of the divas. His selling of the "big announcement" is awful. WWE found a new way to get some publicity in time for SummerSlam, and it's pretty cool. It pretty much ensures Darren Young won't be fired anytime soon as well. I couldn't disagree more. If anything, Darren's reaction seems very genuine, especially as the Photog starts talking about how he didn't know and Darren's first reaction is "Well, does it matter?" I mean, if it comes out that this was all set up, then I'm more than willing to admit being wrong. But I did not get the impression at any point that it was set up or contrived.

I don't see how it's big that one person has revealed themselves to have the same sexuality as millions of other people around the world. Not the fact that he is gay. Read my first post, then the one after I watched the tmz videos. I felt the way that he did that was just so gutsy. The guy wasn't poking at him for answers or anything. Darren just proudly admitted it. And its big because no wwe wrestler has ever done this before. And WWE has never publicsized something like this before.

Wow I just read this in my bleacher report email. Like others have said, I hope creative leaves this alone. If not, creative is not the word for the writing team.....

That's cool, if there are people thinking it was organic then it means it did its job for some people. But Darren Young, flying in for a Be A Star appearance this afternoon, and on the week of SummerSlam, just happens to get interviewed by TMZ this morning? Nah. This was set up either by WWE (which is the most likely) or by Darren Young, because he knows he can't be fired now for a long time.

Hopefully there won't be idiotic crowd chants to come. You know, from the guys that chant "Goldberg" and "what" every chance they feel they get..."we sup-port you" clap-clap clap-clap-clap. Or worse, "you like rain-bows" clap-clap clap-clap-clap. Hopefully he is treated the same as he has been being a part of the Primetime Jobbers.

You know Goldust wasn't gay right? I even heard him say that even Vince never said the character was gay. Vince always said "androgynous" and refused to say the character was gay.

Good for him, plenty of people gay but if it makes his and anyone elses life easier than good.

TMZ has asked this question, regarding gay wrestlers/MMA fighters, before. Usually happens when there's another homosexual sports story in the news. They piggyback off it and if they catch any sports guy, they ask about "What if it was [insert their sport here]?" I won't say it wasn't set up, because I could see that happening - just pointing out that this isn't an entirely random thing for TMZ to do. They just happened to get an answer that made a news story this time.

To the people not seeing why this is a big deal, I can understand why you think so, but the sad reality is this: there are still a huge chunk of people all over the world who don't accept gay people and think they're disgusting. Look at the situation over in Russia. Kids are killed and beat and their leader turns his head. Look here in the US, people are still trying to go against gay rights and it's still not legal nationwide. Gay people are tied to the back of trucks and dragged. Beat. Murdered. And that's people who AREN'T world wide known like Darren Young.
Darren is the first ACTIVE ROSTER MEMBER who came out as openly gay. It's a HUGE deal. Props to Darren.

Good for him, takes a lot of guts to do that. Hope this doesn't turn into any kind of a storyline though.

Can you imagine if Cole announces it the next time he comes out for a match? How amazingly awkward would that be.

Awesome. It's good to see him coming out, with todays anti-bullying thing, there's no need for him to feel he should be in the closet.

Darren Young looked like he was uncomfortable for the whole interview, squirming throughout. I don't think it was set up at all. I reckon the camera guy was acting like that to set it up as more of a scoop and 'exclusive'. Probably gets a decent pay day for getting footage of a guy coming out for the first time. He wanted to make a big deal out of it. Could be wrong but I don't think anything about this screams 'obvious set up'.

Awesome. I just hope the WWE doesn't ruin what should be a proud moment for DY and the company with a tasteless storyline angle.

I don't think this is a big deal, nor do I think it's ever been a big deal when any athlete has come out and said they're gay. I understand that it must take a tremendous amount of courage to publicly admit it, but I'm just saying from my perspective that it personally doesn't make any difference to me. If I like an athlete, singer or celebrity because they're good at what they do, their sexual orientation has no impact on that.
I am still curious, however, what will happen when a real star athlete/wrestler comes out and admits that they're gay rather than a lower-tier guy. It's one thing for a guy like Darren Young who's a mid-carder to be so widely accepted, but what if we were to find out that a huge main eventer like Cena was gay? Obviously, he isn't but I'm just speaking hypothetically and wondering if it would change the way the company views him and if they would push him to be as big of a star as he is.

Young is the first openly gay active roster member. Patterson wasn't full time during the Attitude Era and he wasn't out (publicly) when he was wrestling full time. Lombardi has never come out. There may be rumors or whatever but he's never come out and even if he is gay, he wasn't out during his career. And people saying it was obvious. How was it obvious? I never would have guessed. Chris Kanyon and Orlando Jordan were openly gay and bisexual. Active roster. OJ is bi not gay. There is a difference. Kanyon was not publicly out while on the active roster.

I knew he was gay. He's like one of those guys who look like it, but you'll never expect it. It's cool that you judge people by how they look. This board really has it's fair share of morons.
