I'm sure this has been discussed on here since it's been known for a while, but what if it was Sting that was the 3rd guy instead of Hogan? Granted, Hogan was so vital being that guy, but how would things have changed if Sting was the guy? How would he have changed his look? Would he have just quit with the face painting to have that realness element, or gone with a different variation of black and white. I seriously doubt he would have used a crow type if he had used any at all. Would the NWO had been that powerful being that Hogan would still be a face to oppose them? Again, I think it was vital that hogan was that guy, but it was seriously close to being Sting. What are your thoughts?

IMO it would have been a serious miscalculation.
nobody wanted to boo Sting(just like Austin in 2001)but Hogan was already getting boos.using that made the whole thing even more legit yknow?

Plus, if Hogan were the face opposing them, nWo would have been dead in A few months.

Sting would have sucked...just like The Giant did when he joined.
The whole idea of nWo was former WWF guys who were "taking over".
Neither Sting or Giant had previously been in WWF so it made no sense.
Hogan was really the only option here, imo.

Probably black tights, white boots, black and white facepaint.

Wasn't he already growing his hair out long and dark in preparation for turning into The Crow?
I can't remember. Wasn't much of a WCW guy.

Yeah he had been growing it out but from multiple accounts, he was the back-up plan if hogan didn't go along, so I'm not sure if crow sting was planned that far ahead.

Doubt Sting was the back up considering he was in the other team

I always figured The Giant was the representative of his "father", Andre the Giant, who was a WWF guy. Aside from him being really big, that's probably why they used that angle.

Doubt Sting was the back up considering he was in the other team I suppose it would have happened like Dibiase/Rhodes vs Rhodes/Hardcore Holly.

I dont think the nwo would have been as successul as it was with Sting as the third guy. The biggest reason the Crow Sting/nwo angle was so hot (until they screwed it all up at Starrcade) as that the nwo was seen as "WWF guys" trying to take over the WCW, and Sting was the guy who was gonna save WCW. He was a true WCW guy. Though I think the idea of Sting brining in two WWF guys to take over the company would have worked in getting him over as a heel, it probably would have then been Hogan in the conquering hero role, which wouldnt have gone over well. His schtick was already getting old with fans, and he wasnt a true "WCW guy," so having him as the saving hero of WCW wouldnt have made much sense to me.

Then they would have turned the ultra popular Sting heel and kept the stale, unpopular Hogan face, thus making two huge mistakes. This. Also, Shawn Michaels has said publicly that he tried to get out of his WWE contract and go to WCW when Hall and Nash left. I have a feeling that if he would have been able to get out of his contract, he would have been "the third man".

It wouldnt have worked as well as Hogan obviously but I can see it happening since Hogan begrugingly took the third man spot.

It would've been awful. Sting never works well as a heel, and Hogan turning sent shockwaves around the entire wrestling world. Even if you were a WWF guy, you were watching WCW to see what was going on when you heard Hogan had turned bad. In the weeks beforehand, dirtsheets were expecting Luger to be the guy that turned. He was ex-WWF and tended to work better as a heel. Bischoff was hoping to get Bret Hart signed to do it, but Bret turned the offer down and stayed loyal to the WWF (for all the good it did him in the end). There were also rumours in the dirtsheets that it was going to be Mabel or Jeff Jarrett. Imagine if one of those guys was the big reveal. But lets say it was Sting. How would he have changed his appearance? He could've grown his hair long and started wearing black ring attire and black and white facepaint. Also, Shawn Michaels has said publicly that he tried to get out of his WWE contract and go to WCW when Hall and Nash left. Source? I've only ever seen him deny that rumour.
