Today's fan base would not buy Legends because they wouldn't have a clue.If a little kid has a choice between a John Cena figure or A Legend figure that kid is going for Cena because that kid is going to stick with what he knows.Mattel Looks at the wide fan base not the smaller fan base who want Legends. They're just doing whats best for business.

Not selling anything wrestling related in the UK is a joke. They are enormous wrestling fans over there. FACT! The elites lines fly off the shelves and they easily get four cases or more at a time and the only one's that hang around are the old reliables.

I'm pretty sure there is a way to sell Legends styled classic wrestling figures and turn a profit. I just don't think Mattel wants to spend the time figuring out HOW to do that, because they don't see a huge profit margin in it.
In the meantime.. this will stand as one thing that Jakks was able to do head and shoulders above Mattel (even with the restrictions of not being able to do Steamboat or Savage). Time will tell if that remains the case when the Mattel line is said and done!

I want to make it very clear also I am not talking about Mattel signing D Lo Brown, The Headbangers, Bastion Booger, Shockmaster and people like that that don't have a shot in hell at selling good even on clearance
I'm talking about people who jag a real following like Lex Luger, Goldberg, Jake the Snake, Midnight Express, Rock N Roll Express, Sid Vicious, even throw in Edge and Batista in there. People like that
While I loved it because I've collected everything from Remcos, LJNs to Mattels, I never could believe some of the names jakks was able to get
And I really don't care how they release them as flashback series or legends as long as they get these people in. All I meant earlier was I personally think a revamped legends line would work. I obviously am in the minority
Thanks

Mattel messed up the legends line from the beginning. Too many re releases. Obscure attire choices. Over saturation of figures. The first few legends waves warmed shelves because they were over produced. Kmart was full of figures, then they got the HOF series in lol. Same figs, different box. No good. The legends 2 packs are still sitting in some ToysRus.

I obviously am in the minority Thanks On here you aren't in the minority, but we (collectors) are a minority as far as mass retail goes. So as long as retailers don't want them we aren't going to see more. Hopefully that changes in the future, but I doubt it will anytime soon. Look at what has been Mattel's top sellers through the years. FlexForce, Rumblers and I'd bet the Power Slammers are now. Why? Because they are the cheapest lines so that is what the retailers would order the most of. Hell, you could walk into any toy store, dept store, grocery store and pharmacy and find any of those three lines on the pegs. So that is why they were the top sellers and Legends/DM/EG all were cancelled. It took retailers a good two years to realize that FF's didn't sell as well as they hoped. But retailers are always going to go with the cheapest and most kid friendly lines. Here's hope e23 moves fast enough that Mattel tries to get retailers to bite on more Legends again.

i think a really neat idea that could possibly work is like the He-Man castle greyskull dealio they did.
they could put up a page for a figure that could possibly be put into production-say a run of 5000-10,000 figures. then they could put up a $$ goal and then have people pledge money to the idea. if enough people pledge the $$, we get a small run of a single legend, if not, that particular figure idea gets tossed and they put up another one.
i just kinda pulled that idea out of my ass not really knowing the costs involved and whatnot, but it would certainly help mattel know for a fact the demand on the character. it could also snuff out the whole stupid legends debates that seem to pop up on the board every few weeks; you could say no, dino bravo would NOT sell due to the lack of interest, BUT razor ramon WOULD sell due to interest.
and just to toss my 2c on the "why legends died"-we collectors kinda aided the death of the series by passing on them UNTIL they FINALLY went on clearance. "oh cool, mattel legends-PRICE TOO HIGH-WILL NOT BUY"........"oh cool, mattel legends-ON CLEARANCE?!?! WILL BUY WILL BUY WILL BUY

I've already gotten great versions of most of them from Jakks. Also.. as happy as I am that we got them, I would say that D-Lo could outsell the Midnights or the Rock N Roll Express at retail. D-Lo had a run during a boom period where many of the folks watching wrestling are now people with disposable income. Oh, and Jake DOES have a Mattel Elite styled figure, FWIW.

I know Jake has a couple of Elite figures already but I was just using him as an example of an extremely popular legend that wouldn't have to be short packed You might be right about D Lo. I'm from the south and when I was growing up Rock N Roll Express & The Midnight Express were huge. So I'm probably biased. I'd take them all anyway ! Thanks

I'm a legend only collector, and we hardly get any. and i'm not allowed to speak up about it. some of you may not care as your getting what you want (current figs) and then say a legends only collector shoudlnt complain whn we hardly get any legends. I wonder how everyone would like it if we were getting legends like hotcakes but they wouldnt release The Sheild or never made a Miz or only 1 CM punk. you guys would be on here complaining just like I am. but current wrestling collectors get what they want so they are happy. I would freaking love this... seriously, if every Elite series was like S23 (a new current guy, an updated "regular" and FOUR Flashbacks) I'd be thrilled. I'd MUCH rather have another Flashback than an updated Punk or Cena etc. - or The Shield guys. I realise I'm probably in the minority on this though - and that it would be VERY unrealistic and not a good business move. I do like the set-up that Mattel have at the moment with the Flashbacks... it seems to be working. As I've said (many times, lol) though, I just wish we could have a guaranteed 2 Flashbacks per-series, preferably including at least 1 first time/Legends type guy - I'd much rather this than the "sometimes 1, sometimes 2, occasionally 4" method. But as long as we end up getting 10-12 FBs a year, plus the RSC exclusives, I'm OK with that.

I do think it sucks that we never got a Dennis Condrey figure... and it REALLY sucks that we never got a Jim Cornette (crappy BCA scaled statue not withstanding)...
Then again, back on topic.. Condrey would fail hard at retail, and I don't know if Cornette would do all that well either.

Don't care which one they did as long as it somehow incorporated a Jim Cornette!

It wasn't produced until they sold enough preorders.

I'm quite content on how many flashbacks we get now....I would like Mattel to alternate between Attitude era guys and old school guys year to year.
Another thing why do people on here act as Legends and Flashbacks are 2 different types of figures... They are both the same with a different package.

2 pack failures. I wonder why? Who thought it would be a good idea to release Iron Shiek/Volkoff Bushwackers Piper/Orton Instead of Demolition, Road Warriors and Rockers That was about the dumbest idea out of all of them That's what the two pack legends failure is based of of? That's a joke Exactly, lets make the legends 2 pack with the most unpopular tag teams ... British Bulldogs.... Nah Hart Foundation... Nah LOD... Nah Demolition.... Nah Rockers.... Nah Natural Disasters....Nah Ted Dibiase & Virgil.....Nah I know Shieky and Volkof...... Perfect

The majority of wrestling figure fans (AKA kids would rather get Punk, Cena, and especially new characters like the Shield, or anyone currently going than see spots used on old timers that have come and gone.

I think Mattel has a hard time giving profits to washed up has beens. Part of getting a figure of a guy is paying them for their likeness and the work they did portraying a character. Obviously Jakks had no objection to this. I think Mattel sets their profit margin so high that they cant be bothered to pay $3000 licensing to Neidhart, Luger, etc who haven't exactly been popular in almost 15 years. I think they purly make people based off these criteria
1: Do they have a legends deal or are they currently staff or office people for wwe? 2: Did WWE tell us to make them? 3: Can we make Over $XXXX Profit from this one figure? 4: Is this guy a known bad influence in real life? 5: Hey Boss, We at MDT really want to make this guy, and from what we read on 2 forum posts the rest of the wwe universe wants him too!

The best thing you wrote was "Idk the answer." You absolutely do not. The more you write, the more foolish you look. Tell me what exactly is "foolish" (besides that Diva mess, I don't honestly care if we get any Divas, but what is foolish? Suggesting that in 2013 (not 2010) a strong Legends wave would not survive? We will have to agree to disagree there. I think it's "foolish" to think it wouldn't make it I think it's foolish to say straight up you wouldn't care if they didn't make Divas anymore, and then still complain on why there aren't enough of your favorite Legends figures.
