The Bible. If im going to read a book (outdated) then it better be something good. You think reading a book is outdated? Yes. If you look back at ancient cultures stories were past along from generation to generation just by being told. Then somewhere in time someone put stories to stone/paper/whatever, thus becoming the first writings. And today the best tool we have to tell stories is film. So in a sense we just found a way to improve upon story telling by putting it on film. Kinda like we went back to the way the ancients told stories BEFORE writing. Just think to yourself for a min. Ever wonder how to do something? Ever need a recepie? Ever want to know how to fix sometihng around the house/on your car? Ever wonder how to twerk? I bet you looked it up on youtube/google before you ran to a book. So you either looked for a video or you looked for a response online and not a book. If books were not outdated then why have all the Borders gone away? Walden Books? Book stores in general are all dieing off. Why? Cause people dont read that many paper books anymore. It's just a fact.

Reading it's self is not dying off. It's just went to an easier format. Though lately I've been reading physical books rather than from my kindle and I still really like doing that. Digital is just much easier to deal with since books take up so much room.

Just pointing out the obvious. You're just nitpicking. This is the second listing for the word Book on dictionary.com a work of fiction or nonfiction in an electronic format: Your child can listen to or read the book online. Watching television is you sitting or standing in front of a screen as images are flashed before your eyes right? I could turn captions on so that what is being said can be turned into letters, thus allowing me to read. A book is a group of papers which have been bound together. On those pages are squiggly lines in the shapes of letters and numbers. Nothing flashes, no noises are made, you can only read, right? What is an eBook? Is it a group of papers or is it a screen? To me an eBook is like a mini tv, only except there are no flashing images, only captions. And even then I can buy an eBook on my smart phone or tablet which also shows me movies and tv shows. So........ how is an eBook not just like a television? Paper books are like Kerosene Lamps. They both can be very usefull but it is rare that you would actually need one because much better options exist and are more readily available.

I'm halfway through the 7th book in the Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin and since it's too hard to pick one particular favourite from them, I'm just going to say all 7 of them since they basically flow into each other anyway.

It's just fact. They same material and technology used in making a television is used for making a tablet, or smart phone, or whatever you're readin an Ebook on. Paper books are a thing of the past.

They are still sold and used. Maybe not as much as they once were. Besides that, your original post said BOOKS are a thing of the past. Not paper books. Regardless of how you try to reason it, books in general are not a thing of the past.

So, if I'm watching a movie on my phone, it's not a movie. I'm not in a cinema. I'm not in a seat. I'm not eating popcorn therefore it's not a movie. It's the exact same images as if I was in a theatre, but since I'm not, it's not a movie.

Does this mean if I listen to music on an iPod it's not really music because it's not coming from a record or a CD?

Absolutely love The Catcher in the Rye & Nineteen Eighty-Four. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest gets an honourable mention too.
I really don't read enough fiction & find myself reading biographies too much. Should really sort that out.
