Jericho was definitely meant to be in there originally ahead of Foley. I think Show was promised a WM ME, but I dunno if it would've been Austin-Show, as that would've probably sucked worse than what we got imo.

After the greatness Rock and Foley gave us from Nov 98 - Mar 99, I wish we would have gotten Rock/Foley at WM2000. Or in the least, had them be the last 2 in the 4way. One last time....

don't forget - Big Show's contract promised him the Main Event of WrestleMania 2000. of course when he signed it,it was supposed to be against Austin. but still, Vince was basically contractually bound to put Big Show in there. now, I have no doubt he tried to go back on that, cause he's done it before ( Sid in Mania 8 ), and I really don't know if it was Show holding him to it,or Vince just decided anyway to add Wight to it after Austin couldn't get cleared. Has that rumor about Show main eventing WM16 being in his contract ever been confirmed? I've never believed that Vince would be stupid enough by 1999 to promise anything that big to someone. Considering how poorly booked Big Show was upon his debut it just doesn't seem like Vince would promise him a spot in the main event of the biggest show of the year. Hell the supposed main event of WM16 of Austin/Show was given to us on free TV right after he debuted in 1999. Foley also said in his second book that Vince told him that Rock/HHH was too predictable at WM and that's why he wanted to fatal-four-way. I've always believed that Show got the WWF Title and main event spot because of how much Vince was paying him versus it being in his contract.

Foley said it was literally the first moment he sat down at home following the HIAC match w/ HHH when he received the call from Vince. Foley, like everyone else, was expecting HHH vs Rock at WM. He was surprised to hear Vince say it was too predictable and that they would do a Fatal-Four-Way instead. After Vince told him Show would be involved he was trying to figure out who the fourth man would be. I believe he thought it would be either Jericho, Rikishi, or Test going by current storylines. He was shocked to hear it was going to be him. From what I remember Foley objected to the idea because it would hurt the retirement storyline he had just gone through w/ HHH but Vince didn't give him a choice so he ended up doing it.

I was 8 years old at the time & rather enjoyed it, the hardcore & ladder matches were a lot of fun. Barely remember how the main event was. I may go back & watch the video when I can.

I've always believed that Show got the WWF Title and main event spot because of how much Vince was paying him versus it being in his contract. honestly,I've never hear anything to definitively prove it or dispute it. I'm just going on,in my mind, that Vince has done it before - promising Sid the main event of WrestleMania VIII - and then gone back on it to try and put something else in it's place. I just remember the rumors were all over the place in 1999 that when Show signed,he was promised in his contract the ME vs Austin. and, yeah,I was confused as well when they gave it away for free shortly after his debut.but then, there we were,at Mania 2000,with Big Show in the ME,but no Austin cause he was out with surgery. and, nothing personal against Foley's recollection, cause I have no doubt that's what he told Mick, but Vince is an epic bullsh*tter, and tells talent whatever he feels like, whether true or not.so it also wouldn't surprise me for him to tell Foley that, but for it to also be a lie,and that he really had no choice if it was in Show's contract and Paul called him on it. cause they didn't just suddenly put Show into the ME,they were building it up from the Royal Rumble for him to be in there.which makes me think they had a plan for Show to be in the main event for at least a couple months. really, the only way we'll probably ever get the truth is for someone, someday,to ask Wight about it and see what he says.

Backlash 99 and Backlash 2000 were both better than WM 15 and 16 And WrestleMania 27. And Extreme Rules > 28.
