Anyone see this yet? I went last night and thought it was absolutely incredible. I enjoyed the first film, primarily just because I love the books, but this time around absolutely smashes the original imo. They did an incredible job adapting the book, and I feel like there is an entirely, more relatable, new atmosphere to the series. I'm going to go see this again with some other friends this weekend and I can't wait. Katniss giving her speech in District 11 was hard for me to sit through. I don't really get emotional during movies but that speech made me fight back tears. I personally think the books get better in sequential order, so I guess I really shouldn't be surprised, but man did I really enjoy this movie. The pacing, the acting, and even the emotional tension, everything just felt more polished. I highly recommend going to see this if you're interested, at all, in the series.

I read the first book in one afternoon sitting but for some reason never actually watched the first movie. I think I may watch it on Netflix this afternoon and go Catching Fire this weekend.

I read the first book for a class, then went to see the movie and liked it. From the sounds of it this one is better.
I'm planning on taking a girl I know to see it tonight, that is if her bitchy mom will let her.

Really looking forward to it. Read all three books, loved the first movie. Hopefully the third installment is good too because that book dragged for me.

Watch the 10 pm premier yesterday and I loved it. Was really great. Only downside is they didn't have my favorite scenes from the books lol

Saw the first movie, and I did enjoy it, though not as much as I wanted to. After reading THG, I was excited to see it, but wasn't all that thrilled. Also, I really dislike how the author manages to turn such a story/idea into a teenage love drama. Same for The Host.
I'll probably won't see this until it's on Netflix.

I really liked the first one, but this one was amazing. Highly recommended. I can't wait for the third one.

Also, I really dislike how the author manages to turn such a story/idea into a teenage love drama. Same for The Host. I'll probably won't see this until it's on Netflix. Eh, the love story is really secondary to the overall theme of the films/books. Slavery, totalitarian government, class warfare, violence used as both entertainment and symbolism, all more prominent themes than the love story, which is really just a sad underlying direction of hope. Katniss isn't really even concerned with love for the better part of the novels, but that's not to say that element of the story doesn't exist. A big portion of the love triangle sort of dissolves in disastrous fashion by the third book and again, it's secondary to everything else that's going on. The love story in the first film is also pretty much entirely fake and a giant work to get Katniss and Peeta out of the arena alive, at least from Katniss' point-of-view. Catching Fire is way better than Hunger Games though. I wouldn't let any disappointment you had from the first film deter you from seeing the new one.

Never read the books, but really dug the first movie. I still need to see Thor 2, so I may not get a chance to see this before DVD.

I thought the first movie was just terrible (like, so bad that I didn't even want to stay through the whole thing), so I probably won't go to this one.

Just got back from it a little while ago, I really enjoyed it.
There were a handful of people sitting around me that were PISSED as they thought this was a stand alone movie. Morons.

Just saw this earlier tonight. Great film. I figured from the reviews it would be better than the first film, but didn't expect it to be that much better. The darker tone was well received by me and my friends.

It's apples to oranges really, but I loved both Thor and CF and would try for both if you can. All of the November releases I was excited for (Thor 2, Enders Game, Catching Fire) were all excellent movies that I will buy on BR. Thor and Catching Fire easily fall in my top 5 for 2013 though.
