It was a joke about how a majority of their fights are spent in holds on the ground. Whether you found it funny or not has nothing to do with my intelligence. In fact, it was a joke I stole from The Colbert Report, so it isn't even my joke. If you had bothered to read my initial response to the question, you'd know that I had valid reasons for both the stigma against wrestling fans and my personal dislike of MMA, boxing, and anything of the like. I mean, for Christ's sake, it was the first response; you don't even have to search for it. Also, notice I specifically said UFC and not MMA. I realize that different organizations do things differently, and most (especially foreign) promotions are much more fast-paced. More fast paced? Fighting is fighting. What you said in the initial response has nothing to do with this. I quoted a specific response, a response in which you were rude, a response which answers the topic starter's question perfectly. I refer you to the end of my second paragraph: Personally, I find MMA barbaric. It wreaks of the days of gladiators, where men and women would flock to watch men fight to the death. If anything, wrestling is, in my opinion, superior because it's fake. It shows empathy. It means that you prefer your violence to be fictitious. (Yes, I know they get hurt, but the ultimate goal is to not cause an injury.) Now, as for fighting being fighting, that's just ridiculous. Fighting styles focus on different aspects of fighting. UFC, which is an American promotion, tends to have fighters that focus more on the American style of MMA, which focuses on submission and wrestling (i.e. holds). Promotions in Japan tend to have more strikes because that's what they're accustomed to. As for being rude, how was I being rude? I made a joke. I never said "UFC is terrible and anyone who likes it is stupid." If I recall correctly, the only person who accused anyone of stupidity here was you. If I wanted to be rude, I'd have focused on trying to belittle you like you did to me. What I have done here is defend myself against, as far as I can tell, an internet bully.

Because they get the sense of accomplishment? Pride? Of telling you that it's "fake". They want to come of intelligent and witty even thought they come across as ignorant and sometimes pricky

And why would the UFC having an 'American style' of MMA? The UFC is filled with Mexicans, Brazilians, Americans, Germans, Canadians, etc. It's a world wide sport. The whole point was to bring EVERY STYLE together in one cage. An INTERNET BULLY! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I'm the only member of this board who you can see, as a person and not a name, in my own sig, which I promote every week. But yea, I'm a bully. I'd like to know what percentage of the board thinks I'm a bully. Someone make a poll.

I quoted my first response because you said it had nothing to do with it. By quoting myself, it proves that it did. And, yes, UFC has people from all over, but they adapt to their surroundings. I'll admit that I'm not as well-versed in the subject as you, but from what I've seen, that's how it appears. Also, by your logic of being seen as a person meaning you're not a bully, the kids who mocked me in school for being a mathlete and a comic nerd must've not been bullies because they weren't wearing chicken costumes or ski masks. Anonymity isn't what makes an internet bully a bully, it's a lack of apathy to the people around him and a lack of accountability when it comes to attacking people, both of which you have shown. Maybe it's just because I'm new here and I don't actually know you, but I'm simply stating how you come off to me. You may get a pass for your overly-defensive responses to stolen jokes from people here because they know you, but you're not taking into account first impressions. So, yeah, maybe you aren't an internet bully, but you're definitely rude to newcomers like me, and that just gives this forum a bad name. You can respond to this if you want, but I'm done arguing. I've said my piece and I'm done. I'm not going to make everyone on here have to read an internet argument instead of discussing the topic at hand. For that, I'll admit, I was rude, and I apologize to you all.

You being bullied as a kid doesn't have anything to do with this. Regardless, cool, I guess we're done then.
Commence conversation, other posters. We won't clog this thread anymore.

Ive been meeting huge wrestling fans like myself more often these days. While in school I found that the wrestling fans usually flocked together. I do believe that wrestling is still popular...... I guess not in schools (Im not sure what these kids are into these days with their Yolo and punching people in the face for fun) This.

Because we enjoy watching oily men in underwear participating in a fake sport where they touch each other and fake punches for money, and a lot of the people that do enjoy it go on profanity laced rants about how JOHN CENA SUCKS and IT'S NOT FAKE DAMMIT and how MY CM PUNK FIGURES ARE COOL SHUT UP.
People laugh at it because they don't understand it, and that's why I don't care what they think. Nothing I say or do will ever make them understand it if they don't want to.

Because people who aren't wrestling fans can never truly understand wrestling, so it comes off to them as silly, which quite frankly I can't blame them for.
I do get pissed off when people get really arrogant and say things like "You still watch wrestling? Isn't that for little kids?" As said before, people feel the need to put down others to make themselves feel better. It's a shame.
My favourite is when they say "You know wrestling's fake, right?"...Like they're making some big ground-breaking revelation. I always reply with "You know all those movies and TV shows you like so much are fake, right?"

I view it like this. The majority of society are sheep. This can be proven with how many Miami Heat fans there are and how any fad will take off if a celebrity endorses it. I was a teenager during the attitude years and watched many of my classmates who had ridiculed me before. Jump on the bandwagon because it was cool. The problem is now wrestling isn't mainstream it's not the hip thing to follow so of course if you follow it your not cool. The point is man do what you like because you like it and it makes you happy who cares if some sheep looks down on you.

Growing up as a kid in the 90s wrestling was almost taboo. Like South Park and GTA wrestling was what parents DIDNT want their kids watching whatsoever. I think that's where the stigma originally started (if wrestling fans took heat before this let me know) then it got to the point where it was common knowledge that it's scripted. So now everyone just hates because they feel smart telling you "you know it's fake, right?"

Hey Everyone, Now this thread has probably been done in the past, so if it is recent, and I missed it, I am sorry. Moving on, I am still in school and just turned 16. I have never really "came out" with myself being a wrestling fan to my mates. This being people tend to always look down on it. If it is ever mentioned, the response is always so very negative. Most of the time people question why people would watch wrestling, and the whole idea behind it being, "fake." If anyone ever came out, it is obvious they would be mocked and "ripped" into for doing so. Now, I by no means take this to heart, but it makes me wonder why Wrestling has this sort off reputation? Interested to hear what some of you have to say. growing up, people assumed I thought it was real….then they thought it was a stupid thing to enjoy, despite watching soaps & the equivalent of soaps…. honestly, lol, I often will feel that the "projected" wrestling fan is similar to the "projected" walmart shopper….it's an assumption that they are low class & uneducated, drunken idiots & that's not everyone but it's easy to generalize the entire base into one group long story short, people like to judge & are thoughtless about why someone could enjoy something that they don't get
