Just like the question says. To me, I do love the look and realism of the basic figures. It's just a shame they don't come with Elite style accessories. That is the reason why I collect Elites, is for the gear they come with. I'm not crazy about the added articulation on the Elites, either. That's another reason why I like the basics.
So, with that in mind, What do you think? Am I alone in this? What if Mattel did away with Elites and just made the basic style figures but included their gear just as if they were Elites? Or made the gear purchasable(If that's a word) without having to buy more figures just to get it? And, what about Flashbacks? If they were to do the same with them, I'd be cool with that. Just as long as they come complete. But, I can see where we've already come so far with them the way they are that no one would want to change. I see that point.
Just starting a convo here. Tell me what you think? Should be interesting.

I like elites because they pose/display better, basics are too limited in articulation. I also like shiny belts too!

I only have 4 basics in my collection.
I only collect elites because of three simple things:
Details. Articulation. Accessories

Elites Pros - More articulation Accessories Advanced paint apps. Most of the legends are released in Elite form instead of basic besides WM Heritage. Cons - More expensive Less durable Lately basics have better heads. Some of the attires suck.
Basics Pros - Durable Cheap Some have better attire Cons - Less paint apps Barely any legends No accessories. Wrong part choice in some cases (Machos, Stone Cold) That should sum it up.

In mid 2010, they announced Legends and stated they'd have Elite articulation, at the time Elite 3 was in stores so I decided to start collecting those as well in anticipation. Since then, I've bought every one that I could find. I'm probably missing less than 10, and half of those are due to shortpacking and stores not replenishing.
Why is because they're(debatably) the best wrestling figures so far.
The accessory packs are a pretty cool idea, though I wouldn't buy a shirt accessory pack unless it was a faction like NWO, DX, or like a CM Punk or Hulkster shirt collection. There's enough of a market for shiny belts on Ebay that you'd think Mattel would want to sink that ship by releasing their own era belt collections but idk why they don't, I mean if they said "it wouldn't sell", they'd be sort of correct because people do steal the dang things. Also, I would buy the hell out of a table pack, dumping guys through breakaway tables never gets old.
Also, I wish they wouldn't have commited to making every Legend figure an Elite, because in the Jakks line the classic figures that carried on for 30 or so series all had basic articulation, and maybe if they were $10 and $20 for singles and two packs, we might still have the line around today(not counting the Legends 2 packs still rotting @ TRU).

Sounds like Elite is the way to go. How are they less durable, though?

Also, just interjecting this, you have to consider that Elites don't fill out the entire roster like basics do. I'm a completionist. I want the entire roster. I wish it was all Elite. I actually hate having to buy basics just to get certain Superstars and Divas they won't make in Elite. I also hate that, we don't know what's coming out in Elite down the line. So, when they first announce basic figures of say The Shield, Fandango, Big E, etc., of course I want those figures ASAP. Then, I get them and then here come the Elites, which I would've wanted in the first place. Anybody else not like that either?

And, if I had a deeper wallet, it wouldn't matter cuz I'd buy everything regardless, but I, and I'm guessing that most of us are in this group, don't have a deep wallet. We do this on a budget of sorts. I know I can't afford everything WWE/Mattel puts out. I, as a lifelong fan and collector, just want the very best we can get based also on the average income, if it's even average.

More playability, more colorful deco, and cool accessories for the figures I display.
Also, I think it's pretty false to say that Elites don't fill out the roster. They basically do. The glaring omissions, to me, are the Primetime Players and also David Otunga when he was on every week (obviously not now). Now, you can add the Usos to that list I think. Other than that, everyone who's deserved an Elite has gotten one. Curt Hawkins and Trent Barretta, for instance, would have had no great accessory (we got Glenn with basic Hawkins) and aren't/weren't really popular enough to justify the higher price tag.

I really only collect elites because I hate the legs of basics. I sell off the accessories and clothes here on the classifieds and just keep the figure. If basics had elite style legs then I'd probably collect them instead.

Sounds like Elite is the way to go. How are they less durable, though? More articulation so they can get looser in different places then basics.

I hate articulation because I display mine. To me EG is the best line because of good detail and accessories plus they can stand on a shelf

it really depends what u do with them , if u like to play with them or use them for other purposes other than display then i can see why basics are needed. elite its just better, the higher the price the better the figure usually ..

the same reason I collect the Basics...they are wrestlers I like. Basic...Elite it doesn't matter. It just has to be of someone I enjoy watching.

To answer the initial thread question, it's quite simple… they are the acme of rasslin' figures.

I'm a casual collector now only picking up my favorites currently or in the case of my recent purchase including a purchase of a basic Kane bbecause I never owned a masked Kane figure. and because of that I prefer basics solely because it's cheaper and from a casual standpoint I think attires and head scans and the like are just as good on the Basics...
