Firstly I really dont want this to become an argument about the obvious Benoit subject or whatever.
But yeah, I just watched Souled Out 2000, when Benoit won the WCW Title, and it seems like they were starting a big feud between Nash/nWo and Benoit - so why the hell did Benoit leave like the next night or whenever it was? Also, does anyone know what the plans were for Benoit if he had stayed?
P.S I'm loving the Network haha, getting a kick outta watching these WCW PPVs from 2000/2001, have always had an obsession with this time period of WCW.

Im not really sure what the plans were.
According to wikipedia, he left because of backstage politics and due to the promotion of Kevin Sullivan to head booker.

He was sick of the backstage BS in WCW. Kevin Sullivan as booker didn't help either and Benoit knew that giving him the world title was only to try and appease him. Nash and company would have still buried him in the end. Benoit left with his buddies for greener pastures in a great business move.

I'll say this much... the day Benoit first appeared on WWE TV was one of the happiest days of my life. I marked for weeks.

It was supposed to be Bret Hart vs Sid for the world title and Chris Benoit vs Jeff Jarrett for the US title. Then Bret had concussion issues from his match at Starrcade and Jarrett was injured or sick or something so they put Benoit and Sid together for the World title. They gave Benoit the belt to try to get him to stay. They knew he was on his way out, which is why they had Sid put his leg on the rope as he tapped out, just in case Benoit left they could say the ending was reversed. The way the Nash promo was set up, they made it to go either way. If Benoit left, the promo set it up as if the NWO was against Benoit the whole time and took him out of the company. But if Benoit stayed, then the promo set up an NWO/Benoit feud. In the end, Benoit left so they said sid had his leg on the rope and the title was vacated. Then said the NWO ran Benoit out of the company.

Seeing them sitting front row at Raw was like "Oh crap, this is huge!". One of the debuts I remember the most was the four of them beating the hell of out the New Age Outlaws on Raw. Loved the name The Radicalz too.

Here it is in a nutshell!! yeah their debut on Raw was great.....I felt it was a touch unreasonable to have them all beaten so quickly though......then join the McMahon/Helmsley regime. but it still turned out well for Benoit & Guerrero. Saturn & malenko should have been left as a team and inserted into the Tag ranks thoughs.....they just floundered badly.

Legit just watched the Radicalz debut for the very first time and my god, that was amazing! Thats how you debut a bunch of guys! Makes me sad how nowadays instead of instant debut we know about it for months and most of the time we get promos for months leading up to a lackluster debut against some jobber :/
Imagine if they did something like this for Cesaro, or The Shield - would have rocked ass!

Loved the name The Radicalz too. I had to work that night and I was bored on break so I called my friend. He was watching wrestling at the time and he asked me why Benoit, Malenko, Guerrero, & Saturn were sitting front row on WWE. He thought wCw had sent them there. I asked if the camera kept showing them or identifying them by name. Once he said they were, I knew they must have all jumped ship. I was ecstatic the rest of the night. Cause I knew this was something big!

Not exactly on topic, but I don't get why the WWE never used Saturn well after the Radicalz split? IMO, he was the most talented one of the bunch.

All I really remember is that he had a couple sweet matches with GMS on Smackdown and he had a mop for a while, a match with Raven then he disappeared.

They don't present new guys like a big deal anymore......just not their thing. The Wyatts & The Shield have been promoted as a big thing since day 1, also Ryback was had potential to be great with the Feed Me More gimmick, but they have now killed him.

WWE made out like bandits when Benoit, Guerrero, Malenko and Saturn all showed up on Raw together.

In fairness Raine they are RARE exceptions......and they all debuted in NXT. But that neither here nor there.

What? The shield did just show up with a big splash. On a ppv, and beat down top talent. Didn't even have the name shield for a few weeks.

For me I thought he was hands down the weak link, hence why he was used the way he was. He was a jack of all trades, decent all around, but nothing about him stood out. He wasn't amazing in the ring like the others and he didn't have the personality to make it big. Benoit was The Crippler, Eddie was Latino Heat, Malenko was a 007 wannabe.....Saturn had nothing.

In fairness Raine they are RARE exceptions......and they all debuted in NXT. But that neither here nor there. My thought on why they don't present new guys as a big deal...these days, ARE there any "new guys" who would need that kind of presentation? A guy coming up from NXT, while he'd surely have his fans, wouldn't compare to someone like the rival company's world champion and three other great talents showing up and sitting in the front row on Raw. Sadly, I think the "big deal" presentations are a thing of the past, until another company is on reasonable competitive terms with WWE again. Then, instead of saying "oh, the guy from WWE's training camp is now on Raw," which is no big deal, people would say "WOW, that's the guy from the rival company who's just as big of a star already as Orton, Cena, etc" which would be huge. Fairness to all involved, and whether Vince wanted to admit it or not, the Radicalz were basically just as popular as a huge portion of his own roster when they arrived. To NOT treat that as a big deal would have been a horrible business move.
