Exactly. This is the dirt sheets, guys, are you serious? "They're supposed to count as if its a real contest." Shut the up. Thats one of the first things a wrestler and referee learn before training. Its the wrestlers job to kick out. The ref never stops counting unless someone kicks out. Not a made up magical rule. In a WM main event? No. Don't buy it. On the grandest stage, especially a Taker match, I'd bet almost every square inch of that match was laid out well in advance.

It tickles me that so many people can so easily dismiss the possibility that the Ref might have been swerved himself. I understand not wanting to believe it, but dont sound like you, yourself told the ref that Brock was going over.
And that Hebner clip is 13 years old. Cmon now.
From my standpoint being in the Indies, I know that ref's are normally told the finish. And I know that real old school guys might tell them "Dont worry what the finish is. Count to three." Not to mention that matches get called on the fly sometimes, which would leave the ref completely in the dark. Point being that the ref does not NEED to always know the finish.
I know from our area, they're taught that the best Refs are shoot Refs. Always count the three. If they don't kick out when they're supposed to, well then they lose. A good ref doesn't need to be walked through the match (minus ref bumps or very crucial moments), he knows his cues of when to hold wrestlers back, when to be distracted, when to stop being distracted and when to count the three and so on. And no I wouldn't call the Streak ending a "Crucial moment" from the Ref's perspective. If he's not kicking out, hes not kicking out. You can say "Well he didnt hesitate", and youre right. But every count of three is a big wind-up, to give them ample time to stop themselves. And even IF Taker kicked out and his hand hit the mat for Three... so what? The ruling would still be a kick-out that very moment because He-Saw-Undertaker-Kick-Out. It doesnt have to always be that dramatic millisecond pull-away.
That being said, I'll say I have no idea what Patton was told. Because I dont work for New York. But I can very well believe from my experiences that he was given a false finish. I can believe it. I can also believe he knew Lesnar was winning all along. What I do know, is they they have someone in their ear at all times and as someone mentioned before, its quite possible he was told towards the end that this was the finish, count the three.

The Referee didn't show the slightest bit of hesitancy at all. Infact, it wasn't even a slow count, it was quick and fast, which in my opinion actually added to the drama and shock factor. He also called for the bell straight away.

Every time I look at the match, I just hate how the match went. Brock Lesnar botching causing Taker to be concussed made the match look like crap. You would think Lesnar would know how fragile Taker is and at least make sure he landed right after each move, but damn Lesnar must have been hit too much in the Octagon cause his brain ain't working. I guarantee if Taker wasn't concussed that match would have been a good send off for him.

Maybe Angle was supposed to kick out of the first rock bottom, and that's why Earl didn't count to 3.
