WWE ROYAL RUMBLE
January 29, 2006 - Miami, FLA brief video package plays running down the main events of tonight's broadcast - first, the WWE Championship Triple Threat Match pitting John Cena against Carlito and Chris Masters, and then the Royal Rumble Match hype video. The match is always one of the most dramatic of the year but this year there is an instant prize for the victor - the World Heavyweight Championship!
A colourful fireworks display explodes across the stage as the camera pans over the arena, before the RAW, Smackdown and Spanish announce teams introduce us to the evening's entertainment.
1) THE BOOGEYMAN vs. JOHN BRADSHAW LAYFIELDNo Jillian Hall tonight at ringside, as the image consultant of JBL is frightened of the WWE's own horror movie character, the Boogeyman. The two lock up with JBL being typically bullish, trying to put his stamp on the Boogeyman by pushing him around. But the Boogeyman is having none of it, and stands with the same expression locked on his face, JBL seemingly phased by it! He begins to strike back, with big soup bowl rights and lefts, and whipping JBL into the ropes and hip tosses him over and over repeatedly. JBL rolls out of the ring, not sure what to do next, but the Boogeyman gives chase! However, the veteran instincts of JBL proved decisive at this point as he manages to kick the stairs into the path of Boogeyman, who goes flying over them. JBL rolls him into the ring and tries to take a cheap cover but its to no avail. He continues to wear him down with short arm clotheslines and shoulder tackles, but Boogeyman fires back with his own similar offensive before taking control with a shoulder tackle! He whips the 'Wrestling God' into the corner and hits a stinger splash, before taking to the top rope. He tries to fly from the top, but JBL catches him mid-air and nails him with a fall-away slam! JBL then signals for the Clothesline from Hell but when Boogeyman gets up he's foaming at the mouth and it perturbs JBL; Boogeyman screams his battle cry of "I'm the Boogeyman, and I'm coming to get ya!" before clubbing JBL in the side of the head - he grabs JBL and attempts to hitch him up for the BoogeyBomb but JBL rolls away from the move and out of the ring, heads up the ramp and takes a count-out loss! (4/10)WINNER via count-out: THE BOOGEYMANJBL looks confident that he has escaped, but did not count on the appearance of WWE Hall of Famer, 'ROWDY' RODDY PIPER! Piper backs JBL back towards the ring, forcing JBL to try and escape that way but he runs into a clothesline from the Boogeyman! Boogeyman rolls him in the ring and nails him with the BoogeyBomb before feeding the Wall Street Superstar a healthy helping of worms! The Boogeyman exits with Piper, munching on his earthy treats as he does.
MARIA is standing with TRISH STRATUS - the WWE Women's Champ as her guest in her interview. Unusually, Maria is spot on with her questioning, asking how Trish feels about two of her friends coming to blows tonight; Trish says she doesn't like it, but she'll do her best to make sure when the dust settles, all this is over and done with! Maria then falls into her usual habit of making a mistake, asking Trish how she rates her chances of leaving the Royal Rumble as Women's Champion... Trish then points out that tonight she's only a referee, not a competitor!
In the backstage area with VINCE's DEVILS, MR. McMAHON is standing by a tumbler, which has 29 balls in it. McMahon has hold of the #30 ball, earned by BOOKER T two weeks ago on RAW, the WWE United States Champion entering with his wife SHARMELL. McMahon congratulates Booker on being #30, to which Booker responds it's his number, nobody else can take it from him, and its his chance to make history and become the first man to win from #30 - now can you dig that, sucka?!
The commentary team hypes our next contest - a special guest referee match! WWE Womens Champion Trish Stratus is caught between a rock and a hard place as her friend, 2005 Diva Search winner Ashley Massaro, has been targeted recently by the unhinged mega-fan Mickie James and the two will come to blows tonight at the Royal Rumble with Stratus the mediator!
2) ASHLEY MASSARO vs. MICKIE JAMES
SPECIAL GUEST REFEREE - Trish Stratus... Despite the participants in the match suggesting otherwise, this one wasn't pretty! It started off with your traditional grapple, James backing Ashley into the corner, but then the claws came out and she whacked Massaro with a slap across the face. She then snapmares her down and hits her rookie opponent with a front dropkick! She covers but only for a two, pleading with Trish for a fast count! But whilst she does, Ashley is back to her feet and spins her round and catches her with a slap of her own! Mickie is dazed and left vulnerable to a Lou Thesz Press from the Diva Search winner, who pulled her hair and banged her head on the mat. Trish broke it up and Ashley backed up into the corner, with Mickie charging at her! She misses and stuns herself on the turnbuckle, with Ashley hitting her with a Monkey Flip out of the corner! She goes up high for the diving crossbody finish but she misses, and Mickie catches her with impaler DDT that drives her head first to the mat! Dazed and confused, the rookie stumbles to her feet, but is put on her back with her shoulders to the mat by Mickie shortly after when the psycho-super-fan hits her version of her idol's finisher, the Mick Kick, for the three count. (3/10)WINNER via pinfall: MICKIE JAMESMickie James leaps up and down as Trish checks on Ashley, Mickie again obviously upset that Trish is prioritising her protege of sorts over her! She reminds Trish of her duty as referee to raise her arm, which Trish begrudgingly does before quickly going back to check on Ashley. Mickie, however, kicks Ashley out of the ring! Trish springs up enraged by her behaviour - she squares up to Mickie asking her what the hell she is doing, Mickie backs up rolls out and skips up the ramp - what goes through her mind?!
Standing by in the inteview area is KRISTAL, who has MARK HENRY as her guest at this time. Henry has a simple enough message - it's time for the "World's Strongest Man" to prove he isn't just the 'Silverback' of Smackdown, but of the entire WWE when he crushes 29 other 'competitors' and takes his rightful place as World Heavyweight Champion!
Now, BIG SHOW and KANE are standing by in the tumbler room, ready to draw their numbers. Show turns to Kane and says he's the most dominant Royal Rumble performer of all time with 11 eliminations in a single Rumble match! Kane turns to his partner and says he's only made the final two once, but Show's made it twice - so surely, it's time for either of one of them has to be the one to finally go the distance. Then, CHRIS BENOIT enters, and reminds Show last time he tried to win the Rumble, he stopped him, and he'll do it again tonight if needs be!
Meanwhile, 'Rated R Superstar' EDGE is standing by in the interview area with his girlfriend LITA and interviewer TODD GRISHAM. Todd asks Edge for his thoughts on the Royal Rumble Match tonight and what he thinks of his chances. The 'Rated R Superstar' says he thinks his chances are 0% as he hasn't been cleared as fit to compete in the match as he has a groin injury, before winking at Lita, but he isn't concerned as he knows he'll be in the main event of Wrestlemania, and he reminds the WWE fans of what he said last week on Monday Night RAW that should tune in as he has a historical announcement to make.
The cameras return to the arena as Gregory Helms makes his entrance, the commentators hyping the feud between him and WWE Intercontinental Champion Ric Flair, showing the highlights including Flair's beatdowns at Helms's hand in the past two weeks.
3) WWE INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP: RIC FLAIR (C) vs. GREGORY HELMSFlair enters first, with the challenger Helms entering second and being met by a big chop from Flair on the ramp! The champ wastes no time, swapping soupbowls with his younger challenger, chopping his way to an advantage! He tries to toss him into the stairs but Helms counters and escapes into the ring for a breather! The '21st Century Star' stomps on the champion as he rolls into the ring, the ref ringing the bell as he does and the match is underway. He lifts Flair to his feet and launches himself at the ropes and goes for a clothesline but Flair ducks and hits a chop block! Flair fights further by working the knee, hitting knee-breakers and leg lariats before going for an early attempt at the Figure Four, but Helms kicks away and Flair flies into the corner. Helms hops up and nails him with a neckbreaker, not enough for the W! He gets Flair up and throws him back down by nailing the Eye of the Storm, before heading up high and attempting a fist drop but he misses! He immediately grabs the knee that Flair worked earlier - and the wily Nature Boy goes for his signature hold, but Helms was playing possum and goes for an inside cradle but Helms kicks out! Flair gets him to his feet and chops him in the corner, before bringing him out and throwing a knee into his gut and getting him up for a delayed vertical suplex! He hits a belly to back next, but his luck runs out and when he runs him at the ropes Helms counters with a flying forearm smash! Helms goes for the Shining Wizard as Flair comes round, but Flair dodges and hits a back body drop! He then gets ambitious and goes up top for a double axe handle... nails it! Flair looks in complete control, and goes one last time for the Figure Four Leg Lock, synching it in! But after a brief struggle, Helms wriggles free, the damage done to the knee and he's unable to use his Shining Wizard.. for now that is! The momentum swings his way, and after Flair fails with a second vertical suplex, Helms hits the Eye of the Hurricane - now renamed the Nightmare on Helms Street, and manages to smack Naitch with a Shining Wizard for the win! (6/10)WINNER via pinfall and NEW WWE INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPION: Gregory HelmsHelms celebrated the victory, his biggest singles title win of his career to date! He further degrades Flair by exiting decked out in the bold, brash, bright robe of the 'Nature Boy', mocking his signature strut and woo as he heads up the ramp before being handed a microphone by technical staff and saying "I beat 'The Man', I am 'The Man'!"
MARIA is interviewing CARLITO... She asks him how he feels to be at the Royal Rumble live in TAMPA, which gets a boo from the crowd - Carlito says that mixing up the city you are is not cool, and is about to spit apple on her when CHRIS MASTERS walks in... he tells Carlito to cool it, because later tonight one of them is going to be WWE Champion. There is no way John Cena leaves Miami as WWE Champ! Carlito swallows his apple, and says Carlito as WWE Champion? That's cool! But Masters interjects.. He takes a bite of the apple and and speaks between chewing, saying these perfct pecs and these bulging biceps, the 'Masterpiece' as WWE Champ? That's cooler!
TRIPLE H enters the tumbler room, ready to draw his number in the Royal Rumble match. In enters his rival from Monday Night RAW, Kurt Angle. Triple H says the last time he was in this match, he won it, and it's true, it's damn - HOWEVER Angle cuts him off and says no, no, no! The only that's going to happen tonight is Triple H is going to get eliminated by Kurt Angle - it's true, it's damn true! They draw their numbers and compare - Triple H smirks and tells Angle 'unlucky'... it looks like he'll be out before he enters!
REY MYSTERIO is being interviewed backstage by JOSH MATTHEWS. The 'Masked Marvel' says he feels the spirit of Latino Heat in Miami tonight, and he's going to channel the spirit of his friend Eddie Guerrero and win the World Heavyweight Championship in tribute to him!!
Now, a WWE Championship encounter! JOEY STYLES, 'The Coach' and 'The King' hype the bout - champion John Cena against the odds again in a Triple Threat action with the 'Masterpiece' Chris Masters and RAW's resident 'Bad Apple' Carlito.
4) WWE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: JOHN CENA (C) vs. CARLITO vs. CHRIS MASTERSJohn Cena comes into yet another pay-per-view with the odds loaded against him tonight at the Royal Rumble. As seen in recent weeks, Carlito and Masters are determined to take Cena out of the picture and leave this a one-on-one situation and they worked Cena over in the early going, Masters using his power game to trap Cena in various holds as Carlito laid into him with rights and lefts and knees to the midsection. Cena was struggling, more so after being thrown over the stairs on the outside. Masters and Carlito then re-entered the ring, shaking hands before locking up. Carlito dashed around the ring, trying to get the better of Masters with his faster paced offensive, using the ropes as springboards for elbows and dropkicks and nailing Masters with arm drags. Masters regained control with a brutal polish hammer as Carlito bounced off the ropes. He wore Carlito down with power moves - a delayed suplex, a Samoan drop, sidewalk slam back-breaker and spinebuster, wearing down the 'Bad Apple', readying him for the Masterlock. As he goes to synch it in, John Cena returns and bowls both men over with a double shoulder block! Masters bounces up and takes another, and then another, before going for the spin-out Powerbomb, but Masters escapes and locks in the Masterlock! Not for long, however, as Carlito came up behind and hit Masters with the Backcracker, taking all three men out! Carlito goes for the cover but only manages a two count. Carlito is in disbelief, and tries for a spectacular moment from up high, but John Cena springs up, going for a superplex, followed by Chris Masters who comes in behind and pulls the two down with a Tower of Doom! Masters then tries a cover on Carlito but its not enough! Cena gets to his feet, clotheslining Masters over the top rope, but Carlito has got back up and tries for a second Backcracker but Cena hangs onto the ropes! He hoists Carlito up for the FU, swinging him round and using his feet to knock Chris Masters down as he climbs onto the apron, before nailing Carlito with the move and locking him in the STFU... From there, it's a matter of if and not when, and Carlito submits! (7/10)WINNER via submission and STILL WWE CHAMPION: JOHN CENACena cannot believe his luck; he's defeated the odds once more, and will now almost certainly enter Wrestlemania as WWE Champion a year after starting his title reign at the same event! In the back, EDGE is shown watching intently on a monitor with LITA sat canoodling him, but why?
MR. McMAHON takes GREGORY HELMS aside as he looks like he is leaving the arena - he tells him he needs to ask him a favour, but what could it be?!
In the locker room, RANDY ORTON takes BOOKER T aside - he tells him that it's time for him to repay the favour. Booker looks full of trepidation, and says 'after this, we're done, sucka', before begrudgingly following him into the locker room.

(For the World Heavyweight Championship)The first two entires in the 2006 Royal Rumble Match are
SHAWN MICHAELS (#1) and
REY MYSTERIO (#2). The two slug it out in the early going, Mysterio getting the better of Orton and tripping him up attempting a 619 but Orton dodges it and rolls out of the way as
RANDY ORTON (#3) enters the match. Orton swings widly at Michaels and misses as Michaels ducks and nails him with a peachy Sweet Chin Music that sends Orton up, over and out of the match
(RANDY ORTON ELIMINATED!!!). The crowd is as stunned as Orton as Orton beats a hasty retreat backstage, and passes
LANCE CADE (#4) as he enters the fray. Cade slugs it out with his mentor, with Michaels getting the better of him until

FINLAY (#6) joins the four in the ring, taking them all out with his shillelagh! But his current rival and opponent earlier in the night

Side Effect before going to the top rope as a shocking return pleases the WWE fans as

JOHNNY NITRO (14) and
JOEY MERCURY (15) are the next to enter, the WWE Tag Team Champions proving unpopular with the rest of the Superstars in the ring who immediately make efforts to eliminate them... That is until
VISCERA (#16) arrives and is immediately the target of all the other superstars in the match, though his gargantuan frame is just too much and he survives until another massive moving target
MARK HENRY (#17) enters the Rumble and takes no prisoners! The self-proclaimed 'Silverback' of Smackdown makes an immediate impact, launching London and Kendrick out of the ring like missiles
(PAUL LONDON ELIMINATED!!!) (BRIAN KENDRICK ELIMINATED!!!) and the two have only just managed to stumble to their feet when Henry gorilla presses Shelton Benjamin over the top rope and onto the two of them

THE BIG SHOW (#20) who looks like a strong contender to win the match despite being overwhelmed by all in the contest. He isn't overwhelmed for long as his World Tag Team Champion partner
KANE (#21) arrives and evens the odd, the half-tonne tandem fighting back and forcing everyone away. Meanwhile, Joey Mercury and Johnny Nitro, Smackdown's WWE Tag Team Champions, feel ready to try their luck after taking some time to recover, but after recieving a chokeslam each for their troubles, both are dumped out at opposite sides of the ring by either Kane or The Big Show
(JOEY MERCURY ELIMINATED!!!) (JOHNNY NITRO ELIMINATED!!!). Melina screams on the outside, devastated her boys haven't quite made it as Daivari laughs at her, his client Kurt Angle still going strong in the match! Next in are

The buzzer sounds for the final time, with the fans expecting Booker T to enter, but whilst his music plays, its
RANDY ORTON (#30) that enters instead, is this the favour that Orton called in earlier in the night?! As Orton stalks to the ring, the veteran Finlay is eliminated by Rob Van Dam
(FINLAY ELIMINATED!!!). Orton slides in and nails Van Dam with an
RKO. Triple H, meanwhile, has rolled under the bottom rope and out of the ring and is wielding his trusty sledgehammer... is he ready to McMahon's bidding and end Shawn Michaels' Royal Rumble and Road to Wrestlemania?! He swings the hammer at all but Michaels with great effect, taking out every Superstar who was standing in the match with either a slugging blow to the mid-section or drilling their cranium with a crushing blow! However Shawn Michaels manages to duck his shot, before mocking his long time rival with the 'Suck it!' gesture to a massive pop from the crowd! Suddenly he is rushed from behind by a Superstar not in the match... Gregory Helms! Helms clubs Michaels in the back of the head and stuns him by throwing him over the top and out of the match!

(CHRIS BENOIT ELIMINATED!!!) The Game becomes his target instead, Mysterio using a Hurricanrana to eliminate 'The Game'
(TRIPLE H ELIMINATED!!!). Angle didn't take kindly to Mysterio's

(REY MYSTERIO ELIMINATED!!!)FINAL FOUR -
Kurt Angle (#13)
Rob Van Dam (#25)
The Undertaker (#29)
Randy Orton (#30)Angle stumbles into a corner as Van Dam comes round in another and Orton rests holding his head in a third. In the middle of the ring, the Undertaker lies, before sitting up and looking at each man in turn! He gets up, making his cut-throat gesture after looking at each of his remaining opponents! He is triple teamed by the other three - Angle locks in the Ankle Lock as Van Dam and Orton stomp on him. RVD heads up top and nails a 'Five-Star Frog Splash' but it takes as much out of him as it does Undertaker and as he flops around Orton hitches him up by his singlet and eliminates him!
(ROB VAN DAM ELIMINATED!!!) Angle and Orton trade blows, with Angle eventually getting the better of Orton after blocking an RKO attempt and nailing him with the Angle Slam! By this point, Undertaker had sat up again, and the singlet had come down from Angle's shoulders. Angle charges at The Undertaker, but Taker slides out of the way and pulls the rope down, and the momentum Angle has behind him carries him out of the match!
(KURT ANGLE ELIMINATED!!!)Which leaves two of 2005's great rivals - an icon, The Undertaker, and the upstart, self-proclaimed 'Legend Killer' Randy Orton. Orton shows no fear, taking the fight to Undertaker but the vast experience of the Deadman and his knowledge of their previous encounters serves him well. After initially taking control with an uppercut, then a dropkick. He went for gutwrench elevated neckbreaker, but Undertaker rolled through, and got Orton in position for the
Tombstone Piledriver but Orton also wriggles free and attempts an
RKO, but this is unsuccessful as Taker twists out of it and ties Orton's arm up in a hammerlock and begins to walk the ropes for
Old School, but then out of nowhere, Orton shifts his weight and Undertaker goes flying off the rope and to the outside.
(THE UNDERTAKER ELIMINATED!!!) Orton falls back in disbelief as his music blares, he's just won the 2006 Royal Rumble!
