Can anyone on here shed some light on this guy?
I've heard he was a bully and a massive douche. Have read stories of him waking up his wife with an unloaded shotgun to her chin for "fun" and how he fractured mick foley's jaw.

From what I've seen he was a great in ring worker but otherwise he's a massive douche. His book really shows that

There are two things you need to know about him.
1. He's very possibly the greatest in-ring worker of all time. 2. He's scum.

I've never heard anything good about him outside of his ring work. Yeah, if it wasn't for the talent he had in the ring, I don't think anyone would have any good things to say about him. He's just a miserable S.O.B., and the way some stories get told, it almost sounds like he may have had a bit of a Napoleon complex. And I've heard the story with the gun, but when I heard it, it was a pistol, not a shotgun, that he used. He'd wake her up with the gun to her head, and pull the trigger, giving that dead click of an empty gun. It's sad to say, but I don't think you'll have many people that personally knew him, really mourning him when he passes away.

Years ahead of his time in terms of in-ring work, and is IMO responsible for the incredible success that could come from junior heavyweights in Japan, as well as in a tag team away from his home country.
As others have said, outside of the ring...quite literally the biggest miser I've ever read about...and I have his book; amongst others where his name is mentioned, it's just sad...

He's scum. exactly. he massively suffered from small man's complex, where he felt the need to overperform in a business dominated by big men. and in the ring, this made him great, especially in his early years.once he got to the WWF, the style changed a bit,of course. however, this need to overperform also made him a bully inside the ring,as he injured quite a few opponents over the years, including Bret Hart (who he used to potato and drop on his neck and head til Bret started doing it right back to him),Mick Foley (whom he intentionally injured and broke his jaw cause he "dared" to try and have a good match with the Bulldogs and get a couple moves in), and even Davey Boy himself (who nearly bled to death when Kid cut the top of his head open right to the bone with a scalpel). in many ways he reminds me of Scott Steiner, who had no concern for the safety of those he was in the ring with, and would only NOT be a douche to those capable and willing to beat the hell out of him right back. outside the ring...yeah, he was a bad,bad person. if you were in his group of friends, you were good. but if not, he was a mean, cruel, antagonistic a#$%ole. there are many stories of his "antics"... - intentionally "shoeflying" other wrestlers to ruin their spots in the company. - "pranking" a few wrestlers in ways that got them fired. on guy,he helped get loaded on drugs and alcohol that he was able to goad him into cutting his forehead open multiple times, then took the unconscious wrestler and put him outside the promoters hotel room door. then he had the front desk call the promoters room and tell him he had to come out and deal with a problem with one of his wrestlers. the guy was fired the next day. some prank! - Bret Hart said he once called a beggar over to him in Japan. instead of giving him money or food or something, he spit in the guy's face and called him a racist derogatory name and a lowlife bastard. - there are tons of stories out there about how much of a racist he was. - after he was forced to retire he would spend his days shooting rabbits in his backyard from his porch, while his kids played only a couple feet away. - when his wife left him, after the afformentioned putting a gun to her head incident, her and the kids stayed at Bret's house, and he was constantly calling htere threatening to kill everyone, including Bret's wife and kids!

Dynamite Kid is a waste of space. The stuff Bret talks about in his book about Dynamite makes me sick.
However, on a positive note, his matches in Japan against Tiger Mask are some of the best ever put together.

One of the greatest in ring performers ever but the guy has some of the most serious mental issues I've ever seen. Hes lucky the Rougeaus didn't kill him or have him killed.

- there are tons of stories out there about how much of a racist he was. really? he loved the japanese fans and was good friends with bad news allen. care to tell a few? worst story of dynamite hasn't been mentioned, and it's of course when he broke his manager in stampede, jr foley's, daughter's legs for insurance collecting purposes after she'd been in a car accident.
