Just wondering if anyone else is having trouble buying Rusev as this unstoppable monster when we have freaking Brock Lesnar as our WWE champ? I've made it no secret that I find Rusev's character to be severely lacking and while he is solid in the ring, his look doesn't scream the typical monster the WWE likes to push. With the role Lesnar has been on this year I find it hard to take Rusev seriously in such a similar role.
Anyone else feel this way or am I simply comparing apples and oranges?

They are both dominant heavyweights, but are they really that similar?
Lesnar comes with a pedigree. He's a multi time WWE Champion and a UFC Champion. He's beating the biggest stars in the company, and handily. Lesnar has stood tall over the Undertaker on the biggest stage and Cena, who we always complain is invincible, on back to back pay-per-views. Lesnar is the WWE Champion and on top, Rusev doesn't really compare. Rusev is working his way up, and it's obvious in his matches - he takes damage and shows weakness. He's great at selling which adds to this point. Rusev is winning even when he has to adapt when things don't go his way. Lesnar hasn't needed to adapt. He's just handled his way through everything. Lesnar is an unstoppable monster, but Rusev has to be smarter and "strike when the iron is hot" to win.
Another big thing that makes them different is the fact that Lesnar has just beaten down his opponents with brute force while Rusev uses a submission. It's a key difference in the storytelling. Rusev is making you bend to his will whereas Lesnar is leaving you no choice.

Who says you cant have more than one monster on the roster? Remember that period a few years ago when you had multiple guys who won every match and squashed their opponents like Ryback, Brodus, Tensai, etc?

It's just currently we have 2 monsters in Lesnar and Rusev so the spotlight is more on them. when we have Brock going around with the dominant year he is having takes a lot of credibility away from Rusev who the WWE wants us to see as a huge threat. And it's not like Rusev hS only fought mid carders. The WWE has put him with guys like Reigns, Henry, and recently Show and tried to make him look dominant. |

Look at Lesnar's match with Big Show from Royal Rumble and Rusev's match with Big Show on Smackdown. They're not on the same level and they're not supposed to be. Rusev is a threat, but not of the level of Lesnar. He also isn't trying to be yet. Maybe he hasn't only fought the Kofi Kingstons of the world, but he's not fighting Cena or Taker, like Lesnar has. And you can't tell me any of the guys he has fought are on their level. |

I'm finding it hard to believe that some short stocky fat guy is supposed to be able to dominate collegiate athletes like Swagger and world class weight lifters like Mark Henry. Just my two cents though, until he can put on a halfway decent match or a good promo I refuse to see what any of the buzz on this guy is. |

I think if WWE REALLY believed in Rusev's character, they could give him a major rub with a quick backstage segment.
You show Heyman/Lesnar walking one way, title over his shoulder. Rusev/Lana the other way, and they stop, face to face -- unstoppable force/immovable object moment...
Then Lesnar does his snicker, with Heyman looking uneasy, before continuing on. Rusev shrugs it off and continues on as well.
Did Lesnar brush him off out of disrespect? Or actually out of respect? Lesnar's the monster of monsters, right now. Why not put Rusev in his place? You don't have to put Rusev over Lesnar -- only create the question in the audience's mind. "WHY didn't he..." -- people make their own conclusions.

Couldn't have put it better myself. Every single one off the top of your head? I highly doubt it. Everybody has people who carry them. He's not the only one. His selling is fantastic and he's incredibly agile and athletic for his size. Just because you think he sucks doesn't make it fact. He CAN work. I just wish he had any other gimmick. |

No he isn't believable. I don't for a second believe he's a powerful monster. I don't know how you fix Rusev. He has a culturally insensitive gimmick and he wears a stupid plastic star around his neck. I don't see a future for him. Where does he go after he loses to Cena?

I think Rusev is great and a very believable monster. He's an agile 305lb powerlifter who is also a great striker and he shows superb heart and determination in all of his matches. The only crappy thing about Rusev is that he is strapped with a lame anti-USA gimmick.
