i was thinking about the Undertaker and what would happen if he returned when I thought this years wrestlemania would be the perfect opportunity to change his gimmick back to the American Badass.
Now, if Taker does return I think the WWE needs to do something fresh. The deadman gimmick is get kind of stale to me now. He turns up once a year and does the same thing over and over. Recently we have seen Taker in a much more human way, often breaking kayfabe, especially since loosing the streak.
it would work in more than one way. The Hall of Fame been another. It wouldn't appear he was out of character as the ABA when he eventually gets inducted in the next few years. I think it would be strange to have his last appearance in the ring as the deadman, then turn up at the HOF as a normal person. Especially when we all know how Taker is with keeping in character.
Another reason to change is the hair! Seriously, I cant get used to Taker bald. It just doesn't seem right. However I don't think it would be as strange to see him in the ABA gimmick bald.
Iit would be.nice to mix things up a little, sadly I can see the WWE doing this but what are your thoughts on how Taker should return? Should he return at all?

Maybe if it was a few years ago. No reason to do it for what will probably be his last match.

I always wanted Undertaker's last match to return to the grey gloves.

I always thought that if he did purple/gray MMA gloves with matching kickers it would look pretty cool. A slight tweak to what he already does to change it up a bit.

To be honest, as I much I have enjoyed Undertaker over the years, what's the point of him coming back? I get that he adds star power but without the streak, randomly appearing mid-February to point to the Wrestlemania sign is pointless.

that was pretty much the lowest point in undertaker's career. it was cool for like 3 weeks...then, wait why is a dead guy a biker now? i get that he wanted to do it because personal life.....but in the long run it's a tarnish on what should have been a complete career as what he is "The Undertaker" If he was going to have one more match he should go out in style....put on the old trench coat, gray gloves, gray tie, big hat...come out with the urn. Go off versus anyone at this point. No stupid stipulation, no crazy drama....just "this is my last match" and let it be against one of the guys in the back who wants that honor. They've already pissed all over the streak and it's completely worthless now, so the only real attraction to Undertaker at this point would be an official final match. Match happens, 'Taker wins...maybe even puts the guy in a body bag (Ambrose would probably be all over that crap), he gets to do his little pose in the ring....lays the Urn down and walks off into the sunset. Then HOF 2016

I preferred his (heel) ABA/Big Evil gimmick to any other time in his career. But there's no point in going back now. That ship has sailed.

There's no reason for a gimmick change. I also don't see how the Deadman character can be stale when we only see it once a year.

No. That gimmick had it's place and time when getting hyped on Limp Bizkit was socially acceptable.

I much preferred the biker gimmick to the "dresses like a goth, has friends who control the light switches" gimmick he has had for most of his career... But I don't see the point in it now. If he comes back, it'll only be for one match anyway at this point so it's best to stick to the classic deadman deal.

I loved the ABA gimmick but at this point there is no reason for him to return to it. IF he has one more match in him, his final match needs to be as the Deadman. A mixture of the Deadman and ABA gimmick a few years ago, like when he was feuding with HHH, would have been interesting. But at this point, we don't even know if he can compete again. If he does, it needs to be as the Deadman.

Casket match against either Wyatt or Ambrose. Taker loses the match and we never see Undertaker in the ring again. Then HOF next year in Dallas in his home area.

As opposed to: Crazy swamp guy who carries a chair and also has friends in lighting. A business demon who plants fire explosions in key places every week, suspiciously also has friends in lighting. The music guy who seems to always be spot on with random run ins. A former football player who can conjure sparks to stand in before finding out "who in fact, is next?" Why are you arguing realism?

Even if you take the "as the ABA" out of your original question, the answer's still no.

Nope, the ABA was for the time and that time has passed. I really did like the incarnation though and thought he made it work really well especially as a heel with Big Evil. He rushed back perhaps too soon from a torn pec in 2000 and wasn't 100% for the duration of the year. However, in the second half of '01 and from 2002-2003 he got in better and better shape each week and his matches and performances just kept getting better and better as a result. One of the best heels of that time.
If Undertaker on a personal level decides to call it quits, or if medical necessity dictates he cannot continue I will understand and have respect for that. Although I do feel he deserves (and needs) a proper conclusion and closing story, I will understand if that just can't happen.
However, if all the circumstances come together in the right way and he's rebounded physically and feeling healthy and motivated for a final comeback angle/match then this is how I'd love to see it play out: I'd love to see a return along the lines of the disgruntled, late '98 Taker when he was getting closer to the Ministry of Darkness. I can remember a time when he was so (kayfabe) frustrated with things, angry, and he just wanted revenge and to hurt everybody. There was a time when he'd come out during random matches and just chokeslam the hell out of people or tombstone them. The crowd never knew when he'd show up and they went crazy for his appearances just coming out and reeking havoc.
I'd love to see Taker make a surprise comeback where he attacks a heel at the end of a Raw, or Paul Heyman or somebody. Maybe at first the crowd doesn't know it's him, and suddenly it's revealed to be. Nothing has to be said or done, in fact he can do the same thing (showing up, tombstoning, chokeslamming) at random times for the next few weeks, being p#ssed off, and building crowd anticipation for him. It wouldn't have to be explained why he was angry, or doing any of it because... the streak, the loss, age, Paul Heyman's words in 2014 about him... all of that would be a given as to why the Phenom would be mad and wanting to hurt people. Not saying a word, not cutting a promo, just showing up, kicking ass, causing mayhem would do so much to build anticipation, and restore his image as an intimidating force that can do what he wants, when he wants and it would work wonders to replace the memory of beaten down, injured warrior at WM 30 that fans have of him. From then you can develop a feud with anybody for a final match... someone can final challenge him and step up... Sting, Wyatt... whoever for a final showdown.
I feel that Taker, if he does decide to come back deserves nothing less then a killer and exciting conclusion. I'd LOVE to see him look, act, and BE the true Phenom again and remind everybody that the streak is not who he is and did not make him. I'd love it to be an Undertaker's Redemption storyline where even HE realizes that it was something else within him that fueled him and not the streak at all.

Maybe if he was 10 years younger.
